Why are people complaining and blaming the D

They weren't a dumpster fire like we all thought, but they were still fairly bad.

There is more to defense that total points allowed. Part of defense is WHEN you make stops. The two touchdowns in the first half with one taking up 67 seconds and the other being right before the half, wereally pretty bad.

And then the Giants are telegraphing run and chewing clock, and they're giving up 7+ yards a carry. Let's stop not forget that Wilcox had to make a miracle tackle to even give the offense the ball back. Only one yard more yard needed. That is the "when factor" that our defense fell short on.

Because it's the same story. Good for three quarters, fail at crunch time.
Defense failed at crunch time? Did Wilcox not make the stop to give our offense over a minute to get in field goal range or was I watching a different game

We win this game if TWill gets out of bounds or we turn one of the early FGs into a TD. The Defense wasn't good, but it was good enough.

Also we are basically playing with one DE who had started three games in his entire career coming into this game. The Giants knew that and exploited it.

Games like this are won by good coaches.

The D lacks playmakers that can make plays and end drives. They will still lack them when DLaw comes back. He is a good but not great DE.

IF and when Gregory comes back we will see if he can make difference. No one knows that answer.

This will be a long season so get ready.

I
You do realize what a horrible OL NY has, right? I know that that we are the "nickname defense", but "been run though like soft butter" isn't flattering.
Yes I do. I also realize the defense have up 20 pts. No one predicted that or expected that. Everyone thought it was gonna be worst. Everyone would be took 20 pts before the game. But yet somehow the d that is horrible gets blame for given up 20 pts Lol. Makes no sense but most fans don't make much sense lol Jmo.

But they did make a stop and only gave up 1 TD in the 2nd half. Offense could produce but 1 TD and 4 FGs.....1 TD instead of FG we have a win

Did you think they could hold the giants to 20 pts? If you were told that before the game, you would say that will lose us the game? Our offense score 19. Even with a rookie qb the offense has 3 times the talent the defense does and they managed 19 pts. I'll take 20pts from this defense every game. No matter the other statistics the points the give up is what matters. One more time it was 20 pts. Lol. 20 pts for the worst defense in the NFL.

It doesn't matter what anyone would have said before the game. We now know that the defense was hardly on the field.

Yeah, they gave up 20 points in roughly 2/3rds the playing time they should expect in a typical game. If it were for the fact that they were running out the clock, the discrepancy would be greater.

We gave up a TD with just over 6 minutes to play when surrendering a FG would have given us a 3 point lead with the ball. While they were holding us to FG's we were allowing TD's.

I agree -- the fact we only allowed 20 points was a win in and of itself. .
No, it's usually a loss when the opponent only has 9 possessions.

Teams that allowed the equivalent of 20 points on 9 possessions (Giants, Browns, Saints, Bucs, Lions) averaged 5 wins last year.

.

The Defense wasn't nearly "good enough." We win this game with a rookie QB if we don't have a porous and I think gassed, defense in the 4thQ.

I'll tell you one difference.....having that #55 in the middle the past few years freed up Sean Lee and really made that middle of the D stout. Too bad that purple drink got the best of him.

They held the to 20 pts. If you told me that before the game I'd take it. The ones complaining are some of the same ones who would've laughed if someone said we would hold them to 20 pts yet they are still complaining.

If blame goes anywhere it should go on the wr's. Too many drops. Someone will watch the all 22 and post but we didn't stretch the field but I don't know if that was on Dak, the play calling or the Giants D just doing a good job at taking it away.

Overall not a horrible game. All the doom and gloom is quite ammusing.

The Cowboys were at home and New York is not a good team. Eli wasn't very good but he had some receivers coming wide open. New York had very limited possessions. This defense is going to get torched this year.

That defense was brutal. Every first down run the Giants would rack up a minimum of 8 yards. We only stopped them when they stopped themselves.

because its bad. its a bad scheme, it has bad personnel and the whole point of this defense is to be strong at the 3 and the wolb.

the giants just like they did last year ran straight ahead at will. Our tackles are slanting and shooting gaps and the giants are just throwing them down and getting on the linebackers. When collins was inside he was not ready to be playing.

The defense in my opinion will just be bad all year. We played a team today that basically was one handed and said we can't run and they still ran. Straight ahead at the supposed strength of the defense.

Its going to be a long year. I really hope there is a season left to save when romo is ready and count me in on Romo playing against cincy at home.

We win this game if TWill gets out of bounds. We win this game if Dez comes down with one of the four targets he had that he didn't come up with. We win this game if Zeke gets untracked early on. We win this game if Beasley plays slightly better, which is his normal level of play.

None of those four play defense. The defense wasn't good, but it was good enough to win if the offense executes.

The defense played better in the second half but when the game was on the line and we had the lead we couldn't keep them out of the end zone. What else is new! Holding the Giants to a FG with just over 6 minutes to play instead of allowing a TD would have left us with a 3 point lead and the ball instead of having to play from behind.

After an 11 yard run that almost became a first down for Giants.
