Why are we desperately hanging on to an 8-8 team?

The Skins have been in cap hell for awhile now.

In the last 10 seasons, they have only had a better record than Dallas two times.

is that attributed to coaching or cap hell? be explain.

Looks to me like the Commanders, Seahawks, and 49'ers all did pretty well handing the reigns to young quarterbacks.

But we choose to rush along after teams like the Patriots, Saints and Ravens who will end up paying $10 - $15 million in dead money to quarterbacks after they are no longer with the team.

Good news for them will be that they managed to win a championship along the way, unlike us.

I agree...Romo was the the one that brought this team down.

We need to ship him off to Cabo. What other "young" QB do you have in mind that the Cowboys can get?

Remember...this will most likely take a few years. You ready for that?

It would be nice to have a young, relatively inexpensive QB going forward.

All three of those teams were living in QB hell though....it's not like they had a choice.
  • You could argue for SF because they had an dominant defense, oline, and run game....so you can even win some with Alex Smith if you have all that.
  • Seattle was approaching that in three areas too. They struck gold with Wilson (at least so far). But that team has a D, great line, great run game too.
  • Washington is another story. I would not call spending three 1st round picks and a 3rd rounder on a player cheap by any means. In their own way, they will be paying the piper for that move for many years to come.

so losing season is credited to cap hell? How about Tampa last year?

:laugh2:

Is there where Tampa having tons of cap space and finishing with a 7-9 record somehow makes a point for you?

Even if what you were implying were true, obviously there's probably a happy medium like everything else in life. Too little and you can't really compete. Too much and you hamstring yourself.

But since you mention Tampa.....compared to Dallas, looks like all that additional spending has netted 1 single win. Awesome.

We're the Dallas Cowboys. We're not content with just getting to the playoffs or winning a single playoff game, stash. That's beneath us. Only SF gets to carry any water in this argument, and I think we shoudl do exactly what they did: draft a high-potential player in the 2nd and let him sit behind our veteran starter for a year.

I'm not 'pinning' anything on Romo.

In fact, I think he's an excellent quarterback.

But between this team's needs, cap space, current level of play, and his future contract, I'm not sure if the best move for the future wouldn;t be to trade him.

For both the draft picks he would bring, and the cap savings now and for the future.

But if you did that, you would have to trade Spencer as well, no point keeping him at $10 million while you rebuild.

Seems to me we've become 'content' just going 8-8.

I mean, no matter how poor the record, the owner is content with keeping the GM?

Given the many other needs, I don't think we have that luxury.

exactly tampa spent some money along wth some other teams and they have nothing to show for it. Cap hell does not equate to immedately bad season. It could help, but can be compensated.

You ready for 4 or 5 more years down the road during the rebuilding? Cowboy fans would go freaking crazy!

And, there is no guarantees in life. You, I, or anyone else on the planet can guarantee that what you ascribe to would come true.

It's a fantasy, that's all.

Is it any more 'fantasy' than the owner continuing to believe in futility that 'next year' is always 'his year'?

Acting like a bee repeatedly bouncing off a clear pane of glass hoping to escape? "This time, this time, this time" (Think Bee Movie)

The owner cares about himself more than he does his team. He knows he's a fraud. He simply doesn't care enough to make the change. He'd rather keep trying to win his way than risk winning with somebody else running the football operations.

He's a sick man.
