Why can't Cowboys be beast of NFC east again?

What doesn't apply? The concept of sweeping a "weak" division?

No the concept of us being New England, different team, different division. Again like I said had Romo been healthy we sweep the division. No teams in the East got do much better then the other one. We stay status quo I see no reason why we couldn't sweep the division.

St. Louis didn't lose a game in the division a year or two ago and that's with Seattle, San Fran and Arizona

Good point.
Especially when you get into a win-and-in situation three years in a row and lose every single one.

I'm not a Debbie Downer on Garrett (not saying you are), but this is real and should be accounted for.

I like Garrett. I like a lot of what he has done organizationally. But ultimately it comes down to wins and losses. What happens on game day? I have real doubt that if a career football guy who has played at every level, and coached at the highest level, and grown up in a football family, doesnt have IT by now, will ever get IT. What more can he do to get IT? A person either has IT or he doesnt. And so far Red has shown its one of those things he does not have. It would be really unusual to see some dramatic change at this point in his life or career IMO.

Jerry just cant let go of Red. He sees too much he likes. Too much good in his view. He's afraid if he lets him go he'll regret it. Deep down he knows there are issues, but he's hoping they will work out. He wants it to work so badly. Its like being in a relationship you dont want to give up. You know the girl isnt the one. There is so much you like. You want it to work. You want her to become the one. You just cant give it up because of the good things. But ultimately its never an ideal relationship. She is who she is. She isnt the one. Once you bring yourself to accept it and move on its like a HUGE load has been lifted off of you. There is freedom.

Jerry needs to come to grips and dump his heavy load of Jason Garrett. For every Cowboy fan in the world it will be freeing. It will be that breath of fresh air that is sorely needed.

no! not defense aside

What I'm saying is even with the bad defense, this team was in position to win the division. If this division was like the NFC West, this team would probably only win 5 games. The only reason we have a shot this year is because this division is so bad. It's so frustrating not to be able to win a bad division. Dallas was 5-1 in the NFC East last year and came up short. Who does that besides the Cowboys?

We aren't NE so that doesn't apply. Had Romo played the last game we sweep the division last year. Not far fetched if Romo stays healthy, no team has improved more then the other

Last year took two 4th qtr game-winning drives on the road at Washington and New York to keep it from being a more normal 3-3.

6-0 is possible , but extremely unlikely. Maybe 20-1 odds or worse.
Even 5-1 is probably 10-1 odds against.
That's what makes last year all the more frustrating. Going 5-1 in division and not even winning it is pretty hard to do. Missed opportunity for sure.

Philly won their last 7 of 8 games last year.
New York won 7 of 10.
And, as the OP says,Washington is improved.
Never say never, but I'd bet against 6-0 in a big way (25k maybe for easy money) if it wasn't against my favorite team.

After watching the preseason games so far, I have to say:

Eli and the Giants are going to be really bad. Maybe worse than last year. What has happened to Eli anyways? He looks real uncomfortable in new scheme. Oline is going to be an issue. I'd be surprised if they were better than .500. Coughlin will be looking for a job next year.

Fact: Romo threw 31 TD's last year. That matches Eli's best year since he was drafted.

Washington may be the most improved team. Their defense always gives Dallas fits. I was hoping Hasslet would have been let go with previous regime. But RG3 is going to get hurt again. You can see it coming.

Fact: Commanders only Superbowl wins came in strike shortened seasons and should have an asterisk next to them noting such. I hate the Skins so much, I'm going to use their Native American offending name all year. Take that Phil Simms.

Philadelphia's defense does not look much improved over last year, and Dallas had success playing ball control against them in both games. Foles release is slow and he's going to take sacks. He's also going to miss Jackson more than you think. Jackson drew double coverage. If Shady goes down the party is over. They're also the media's chosen ones after barely winning the division against a team with a backup QB and no defense. Too much added pressure.

Fact: Chip Kelly had previously never as a head coach had a team keep him out of the end zone for an entire half of football until the Cowboys did it in Philly last year..

Yeah, how about that Kelly offense against a Kiffin defense....
On another note for Eli, he has been without his expected top WR [couldn't resist], Odell Beckham, who by the way, has not played in a preseason game yet, due to a hamstring issue...just some info...LOL

Good point though, I think more and more pundits are coming around to this thought also. Who in this division really scares you.
As norm says it too, even if Dallas goes 4-2 in the division, which they should. Then win the other games like Titans, Texans, Jaguars, and either Cardinals or Rams, that is 8 wins there. 9 wins if they win both Cards & Rams.

Speaking of Romo and Eli.

Tonys turnover differential last year was 30 ...that's right 30... better than Eli's.
that is a staggering difference. Almost impossible, really.

But you cant spell elite w/o eli :D

Mr Clutch in the do or die, elimination, win or go home games.

Until the Cowboys stop beating themselves it will be the same thing. They should have won the East the last 3 years. There really is no excuse for it....bad defense aside. This team should have been in the playoffs. Now winning in the playoffs is another thing.

I agree Cowboys had the chance to wrap up the division before week 17 and they failed to do it.

NFC east will be a weak division this year again. Giants will be lucky to win 7 games, and the Eagles (and particularly Foles) will crash to earth this year. Foles had so many "throw up and pray" passes last year that the Eagles receivers were lucky to come down with. And the league will be all over the Philly's coach's scheme this year I think.

31st worst defense in the league last year , and there's no excuse for not getting into the play offs?
piss poor offensive line last three years and there's no accus

another way to look at it is Red had the guys playing above their talent level and even with the 31st ranked defense we got eight games out of those street agents

No the offense is loaded and the division is weak. That's why they're in it every year. Garrett's playcalling has cost us at least 2 wins a year. I'm not giving Garrett credit for us playing mediocre football in a weak division. We didn't beat one team with a winning record last year. Garrett's the Head Coach. He's responsible for the defense too.

You can't discount the bad defense because more times than not, the offense made up for their mistakes ... take the lead only to see the defense let the team march right down the field and give it up.

i don't get all of the Philly love, i really don't.. seems like every media outlet is picking them not just to win the East, but run away with it. the ****?

to me Foles is still unproven. If he comes crashing back to earth McCoy will get the Adrian Peterson treatment (8-9 in the box) and their offense becomes anemic, then what?

i like our chances this year and I'm usually a pessimist. I hate our defense so much i could chew nails, but we have to roll with what we've got. If our offense lives up the hype our defensive ineptitude could be moot. I think this division could easily be won with 8 wins

The main thing I hate about our defense is we don't have a nasty, mean d-lineman that will bite somebody's head off the get to the QB (not that I can tell).

I agree. Philly had trouble putting up 24 against 7 or 8 guys from Best Buy, Krogers and Farmers Insurance.

Good post. IIRC, the Cowboys won 5 of 6 last year despite having the 32nd ranked defense (they were ranked better in points allowed and IIRC top 10 in turnovers).

last year offensive line came together the second of the season. this year their going to be bad ***. three years ago the offensive line was crap
This year who knows regards the DL . I think Red cost us some wins yes but his not going anywhere
