Why can't we trade Dak to a team that absorbs some of his contract?

I bet ya, Carolina, Houston or the NY Jets would give up 2 first rounders for DAK....They want franchise QB in the worst way....and be willing to pay...DAK might even get a pay raise, Then sign Carr or Jimmy G as short term solutions

Two things would hold back the deal IMO....
1. No Trade Clause in DAKs contract
2. The 2023 Dead Cap would increase to something like 39mil for the Cowboys (not sure tho)
No way in hell any teams give up that kind of capital for Dak and his bloated contract. Even if Dak had a cap friendly contract why would teams gamble their futures on a QB going in to year 8 who hasn't accomplished anything but inconsistency?

You often hear trades where one team wants the other team to absorb some of the contract if the player has a high cap number.

Why can't we do that for Dak? Find a trade partner (somehow), and WE absorb the majority of his contract and make the deal!! That way we're not stuck with all of it, we get a small tiny break.
I'd love to do that but:

1. No trade clause
2. What team will A) give you the draft picks and B) be willing to take on that big contract (beyond just next year)?

Nope he has a no trade clause in his contract

Those teams could sign Carr or Jimmy G and keep their 2 first round picks. Which would you choose if in their shoes?

Some of you want to move on from Dak, then worry about finding a QB. Lol Philly didn’t move on from Carson Wentz until they had Jalen Hurts who showed promise. You don’t move on from your starting QB without having a solid replacement.
Very true. But Philly took the step of drafting a potential replacement. And they were criticized for it. The Packers did the same with Jordan Love. The Cowboys haven’t and it would be shocking if they do now.

Again to many people are over thinking his no trade clause. It would be very easy to trade Dak. You just tell him the team is going in a different direction and he is no longer the starting QB. The no trade clause allows Dak to be part of the trade deal where he would be able to negotiate with other interested teams. He only has two choices, he comes to an agreement with another team and moves on with his career or Dallas can just sit him and his playing career ends here. A very simple choice to make. It just allows both the player and the team to look like winners. There is not a starting QB out there where his ego would allow him to sit on the bench

Last year made the playoffs that really sucked this year made the playoffs and won a game that sucked even more big time

Jerry n Stephen wouldn't risk losing those #4 jersey sales. Heck, they might keep #21 for jersey sells only. Also, they don't like admitting they're wrong...trust me they'll double down on Dak this off-season.

I don't think you can cut him this year, because of the dead cap. But someone I believe said after June 1st next year it would be only an 18 mil hit?

Thats when you do it.

For this year we need him for better or worse, but I'd at the very least draft someone. Make him look over his shoulder. Project qb.

You don’t want to be using a premium draft pick unless you really like a QB. The Packers wasted a first round pick on Jordan Love. Philly took the step because Hurts fell in the draft, and Philly saw an opportunity to use him in certain situations, ala Taysom Hill. They wanted a Swiss Army knife at QB. Who knows if the Cowboys see a QB fall in the draft they might take a chance in the second round. Drafting a QB is a real crapshoot and you can waste a draft pick if you’re not smart about it. I’m sure the 49ers wish they could have the draft picks back they burned to move up for Trey Lance. It’s looking like a real big mistake.

They won't draft a QB early because Jerry would not like the optics.

Come on man. What was the Nucci to you? Just a cold salami?

Fuggedaboutit!

You would have to convince Dak on the trade.
And you would have to find a team that wants him at any price. This may be the more difficult part of the deal. :muttley:
