Video: Why Dak is the most accurate. NFL Network

Dak wasnt that good in 2016. He was more efficient but he had a ton of help. How are wr's supposed to be goog when he over throws them? The most important aspect of a qb is daks biggest weakness. I'd be happy if he proves me wrong but i wouldnt bet on it. He will always be average at best and that is only because of all the talent he has lifting him up. Dak doesnt make the OLine better, or the WR's, or the RB. The guy lucked into the starting job, not because he was more talented, not because he beat out a career backup but simply cause 2 guys got hurt and 1 of those guys is a class act. Defenses will continue to focus on the run untill dak proves his arm can beat them. I hope hes out there learning how to throw.

Dak was very good in his rookie season. Calling him just “efficient” is over simplifying what happened.

Go watch the play. Dez wasn’t open, no big surprise there, and the jump ball was the only option Dak had.
Which happened a lot last season.

I agree Dak has to be better but placing all
The “blame” for that play isn’t right either. The receivers need to give him a better window if they don’t want to be forced to make a tough catch.

This isnt college. The boys were only slightly above nfl average for being open but that is vastly different than college. Qb's have got to help out receivers in this league. Dak throws alot of balls just out of reach trying to lead the receivers too much. Alot may come from his mechanics, something good qb's work on constantly. Hes never been the most accurate, its not his strength.

I know that. But you’re using an example of a play, where the play was a designed jump ball fade from the start and using that as evidence to prove your point.

I’ll readily admit that Dak needs to work on accuracy. But criticizing him for throwing a jump ball when the play calls for it, and when the receiver he is throwing to specialized in catching them... is just wrong.

Calling him very good is overstating what he did.

Pretty much every metric on QB bare out that he was very good.

And I don’t want to hear the ridiculous “he had help” argument. Let me know when other successful QB’s don’t have help from the supporting cast around them. Let’s get out of this fantasy land where Dallas is the only offense in the league that has skill position players that help out the QB. It’s utter nonsense.

Lots of good QB’s benefit from having a good offense around them.

Jump ball is ok. But the ball was short. Its an example of where not to throw to. He got away with it because dez bailed him out but more often than not that ball isnt caught or is caught by the defender.

By that standard you also think blake bortles is very good too.

A quarterback doesn't have to "make others better" if those players are some of the highest performing players in the league. Nice if you can do it, and it's needed by every quarterback at some point. And no quarterback can make a bunch of mediocre players into a SB champion, like Romo and Robinson in 2011, Robinson had a career year, lasted only one more mediocre year and hasn't played since.

But you don't know if a quarterback is one of those rare guys who can "make everyone better", when you draft him, you have to give him at least several years to learn the pro game and develop into that guy. If after 3-5 years he doesn't, now it's "let's find another one".

I just think it's poor planning to pin your hope for a SB title or three on finding that once-in-a-lifetime quarterback, much better to try to build a team with several players that are able to help out your quarterback, rather than the other way around. LIke Witten, who is very good at getting open, just imagine if Dez and Williams could learn that!

I think after this season(3 years and 48 games started assuming Dak stays healthy this year) we and the Cowboys will know what they have with Dak as a QB. Dak won't change much after this season, so what we see is what we will get from him as our QB. 3 years starting is plenty to find out who he is as a QB and if you want to know what the Cowboys think start looking at if/when they start talking to him about his next contract, because if the Cowboys truly feel he is their guy for the next decade or so then there is no way they will want to let him play out his rookie deal next year, they will want to get something done on paper this this year

Agreed, assuming good health for him and some other key players (Zeke, T. Smith, Frederick, Lawrence, Lee, et al) he should improve this year.

Though with Garrett and the other coaches being in charge, Dak could probably be Staubach, Aikman and Romo all rolled up into one and still not be a top quarterback :banghead:

Another thought is if Zeke plays all year and is as good as, or better than his rookie year, Dak still won't have to do as much as he would have to do without Zeke or a top running game and we won't be able to tell if he's progressed:huh:

By what standard? I’m simply stating that even very good QB’s have their play affected by the people they are playing with. You are the one that is downplaying Dak’s rookie accomplishments because he “had help”. Which is asinine and stupid. Because just about every successful QB has help.

Apparently your standard is wanting a QB who plays lights out, without any help from the players around him.

That’s all well and great. I’ll take that too. Unfortunately there are only about 2 QB’s in the entire league who fit that criteria. And one only comes around every 8-10 years. And even they aren’t on that level after year 2.

The thing is, this can be said for most qbs. It's no accident that Romo's best season came when DeMarco lead the league in rushing. They've been trying to change the rules for more excitement but the run game still runs $#!t. We've got one. Let's act like it. It's the reason we look at Troy Aikman with such admiration.

I think the way to a championship is a decent running game to keep your offense moving and a good defense to get a stop when you need it. We only have one of the two currently. If we go out and draft a wr then we'll know Jerry is the idiot everyone says he is.

So then Dak is average. Hard to get excited about that or not want to upgrade it no?

If he is average and pay him $25m AAV or more we are in trouble.

Is Eli Manning one of "those quarterbacks" who can make others better? I think, and probably most here as well as a lot of "experts" do, that he's NOT one of those quarterbacks. Especially thinking of the Tyree catch in the SB.

But he's got 2 rings. P. Manning was not a very good quarterback in his last year, but he got his second ring.

Just saying that even recent history has examples where a not-so-great quarterback can "bring home the bacon", so even if Dak never turns into another Staubach, the Cowboys could win it all again...

Anytime you have the NFL rushing champion to hand the ball off to and you can have a simplified offense to run, you have a bit easier time looking good. Last year he didn't have that, he had quite a bit more pressure, and that takes a while to learn how to deal with it. I would even say that if he doesn't "get it" this year, I'd still be willing to give him another year, assuming he improves at least some. But if he doesn't improve some, it'd be something I'd have to evaluate again after the season...

He sure shhhhh the bed in a accuracy challenge against David Carr.....hahaha

Oh yeah, that means Dak is not a good quarterback, right?

My oldest son was trying to get a scholarship to play basketball in college, he went to the school and there was another kid also trying out. First the coach had them just shoot 3s, the other kid was nailing probably 60% of them, my son maybe 30%. Wasn't looking good.

But then the coach put both of them in a scrimmage with the team, the other kid tried 4 shots, missed them all, my son tried 3 and hit 2 of them and had a steal as well in just a few minutes.

Some set up, no pressure, throwing at targets "competition" doesn't necessarily mean anything...

Exactly. We have so much poured into offense that we can and have won regular season games with an average qb. But that changes the team entirely if you have to pay the qb 25+ million a year.

Dak is a gamer. He was awful in practice his rookie season. I don't care how a player practices. He then went on to saying last season he tries different things in practice to test the limits. I quote Iverson "man we talkin bout practice".
