Why did Cleveland release Weeden?

There's several reasons why Cleveland released Weeden he performed the worst of any of the QB's the Browns used last season check the stats. His rookie season wasn't great and he regressed last season. He lost his last 7 starts dating back to 2012 and he had only 9 TD's compared to 11 turnovers last season. The new regime obviously saw no future in him and he's going to be 31 in Oct. When Weeden was released no one wanted him as a starter which is why he settled for the backup job with the Cowboys.

The Browns aren't high on Hoyer which is why they drafted Manziel in the first round but he was the Browns best QB last season and they're using him as a stopgap until Manziel is ready to take over. Cleveland has been a graveyard for QB's. The Browns have gone through something like 20 starting QB's since 99 and haven't had a solid QB since Bernie Kosar. Manziel has shown potential in preseason but he's having to make a tough transition from college QB to NFL QB and will have a difficult time panning out in Cleveland.

Just being candid, Cleveland deserves that entire picture described.

I would like to know how anyone comes to the conclusion that Hoyer is a good QB? He's had 3 full starts in 5 years and only ONE of them was decent. On top of that he had a bad college career.

...the clincher is, he beat out Johnny Football and now is a starter...right?

Not even the Browns have come to that conclusion which is why they used a #1 on Manziel. It's not like Manziel is a can't miss prospect ala Andrew Luck he was a risky pick but that's how unsure the Browns are about Hoyer.

They took him at 22, it wasn't a huge gamble.

Anytime a bad team takes a QB in the first round it's big a gamble especially for a team like the Browns who haven't seen the playoffs since 2002. When you draft a QB in the first round and they don't pan out it sets a franchise back and they end up having to use another #1 pick on a QB. The main reason the Browns are one of the worst teams in the league every year is having to go through different starting QB's year after year. Like I mentioned they've gone through something like 20 different starting QB's since 1999 that tells you where their main problem is.

They have a much better defense than the Cowboys and they have some offensive talent but they can't come up with a franchise QB. Their QB situation was so screwed up last season 3 different QB's saw extensive playing time. Manziel is not off to a good start not being able to beat out an average QB like Hoyer who's pretty much stunk so far in preseason. Hopefully Manziel doesn't end up like Tebow all hype.

lmao But, you were the one that came here proclaiming that Tebow "inspires" his teammates to wins! Typical...forgets what was said.

To me Weeden looks pretty good when you keep pressure off of him. However, he looks like Ryan Leaf when you get in his face. Seeing how every QB has to deal with pressure eventually, that's a pretty big issue.

He played under Norv for a season and actually got worse. How?

For one thing, he had too many coaching and offensive changes during his stay in Cleveland. For another, he was thrown to the wolves before he was ready to assume a starting role -- perhaps an expected casualty of his advanced age upon starting out.

In any event, he may not truly be an ideal candidate to be a starting QB in the NFL but may well be suitable for use as a capable backup. If that's his most advantageous role, it's probably not the worst thing that might have happened for himself and his team.
