Why do we NEVER throw DEEP?

When was the last time we saw a "BOMB" from this offense? The last one I remember was the ill advised throw by Romo against G men in week 2.

Why don't we throw deep to keep the D honest or get a PI call???? At least once/game. Watch GB must throw deep 3-4 x per game and gets 1-2 PI calls.

I am talking about deep balls traveling 40-50 yds in the air. Not one of those RAC things.

I understand that if there's double coverage or deep help don't throw it but GJ should be able to design 1 or 2 plays to dictate single coverage on a WR to go deep.

As we play better teams, they will start squeezing the zone and prevent even intermediate routes as well.

i think Jason garret has been scarred by last years performance.

I would like to see us go deep more often I do think Romo does look deep on many pass plays but chooses to go elsewhere with the ball. It may have something to do with the lack on ints he has thrown this season but none the less I would like to see Tony take a few more shots down the field

We'll see plenty of it Sunday, unfortunately from the opposing team.

I don't think we can consistently protect Romo long enough to go deep.

Good, I have faith that the Cowboys defense can hold their own vs the deep ball.

It doesn't take a seven step drop to throw a 40 or 50 yard fly route. As big and fast as Austin is, he should be able to get a step on most corners and RW can win a lot of jump balls.

Agree and sometimes the WR doesn't HAVE to be open for you to throw that deep ball. Your WR needs to fight for it and may get a PI. It also helps to keep the D honest and open up intermediate routes and runs as the Safeties have to play deep instead of cheating up.

So why don't we do it? SD receivers are big but not fast.

I bet you RW is faster than V Jackson.

Austin is just as big and faster than all of them.

Team's play their safeties deep to prevent deep plays when they play us.

I used to think it was a matter of arm strength but I saw Romo hit Owens on a bomb against the Eagles last year and the ball travelled easily 60 yards in the air.

Yes and No.

Sometimes at OC you have to design a play that goes deep knowing that. You can't tell me that opponent of GB doesn't know they are going deep.

It's the scheme and QB mostly I think.

I swear I remember hearing somewhere that we audible out of run plays a lot because teams are going 8 in the box against us.

Like the OP said, there are ways to devise formations to get single coverage on 1-2 WRs. The defense may not give you the look you want all the time, but every now and then, you'll catch them. It seems we've eliminated this concept from the offensive playbook.

Most pass plays do have an option of going deep I think it becomes Romo option when he drops back and makes his reads. Many time QB will look deep and work down. I would not mind seeing Romo take some shots but I also do not want to see Romo forcing passes
