Why do we NEVER throw DEEP?

Because 95% of our passes are from the exact same spot in the pocket. They know where TR will be standing exactly. So all week they run their schemes and practices so the rush ends up at that spot. So we never have time to run a fulll route even if we wanted.MIX IN SOME BOOTLEGS AND ROLL OUTS!@!!
Tony won the job because he could move and adlib. When he is out of the pocket he is deadly. Tony is not Troy let him out of the pocket. Make the defense have to respect that he might run. It would also slow down their bull rush and respect that he wont be standing in the EXACT spot every play.

...that would be correct - our OL, as I stated before ONE game was played this year, is overrated. They are terribly inconsistent.

First off, if you go look up any individual QB's stats, you'll see there arnt alot of attempts league wide that go over 40-50 yds in the air.

Second, in examining Romo's numbers on passes over 21yds, he just isnt very good at it. He's 6/17 on passes on 21-30 yds and only 2/13, with a 19.1 QB rating on passes over 31 yds.

That said, we still lead the league in completions of 40+ yds, and are tied for 3rd in completions over 20 yds. So tghere's really no reason to be bellyaching.

Deep ball keeps a defense honest and CB off the WR and occasional PI. Long ball completion rate is low for every one but it serves a purpose.

You are looking at stats that showed we have completions of 40yd+ but most of them are YAC and not ball in the air for 40yds.

No it isnt just you...its ridiculous beyond belief the crying and complaining about every single little thing. We dont run enough. We dont pass enough from a certain formation. We throw deep too much (where's Mr "Vertical Offense" at for this thread?)...we throw short too much. One RB gets too many touches...one gets too few...we dont get the 2nd and 3rd TE involved enough...blah blah blah

The numbers on the attempts are on the distance of the pass itself.

I'll do some other research later on this, but of the few teams I spot checked only 1 (Indy) had substancially more pass attempts of 31+ yds than we did.

Why don't we throw deep to keep the D honest or get a PI call???? At least once/game. Watch GB must throw deep 3-4 x per game and gets 1-2 PI calls.

I am talking about deep balls traveling 40-50 yds in the air. Not one of those RAC things.

I understand that if there's double coverage or deep help don't throw it but GJ should be able to design 1 or 2 plays to dictate single coverage on a WR to go deep.

As we play better teams, they will start squeezing the zone and prevent even intermediate routes as well.

for good reason. teams have figured out in order to beat the cowboys you take the big play away. they are keeping their safties deep and keeping the WRs in front of them and forcing the cowboys to dink and dunk their way up the field. we have struggled against cover 2 type defenses. they are saying that we don't think you are good enough to make 10-15 plays in a row consistently and they have been right. we make 5-6 plays and then have a bad couple of plays and punt.

so now the book is to stop the run, force them to pass and they will go into shot gun formation, then they can blitz, since our OL has trouble picking up the blitz and make cowboys one dimentional. easy to defend.

If it so simple why don't we do it every other play? Just have Austin run down the field 50 yards have Romo throw it = TD. We could but up 70-80 points a game. Have you called the coaches yet and let them in on your plan? The other half of the plays we can hand it off to Jones. Maybe we could break 100 against SD.

I'm saying we can throw the ball deep a couple of times a game regardless of protection. And taking that one or two shots, even if they don't work, keeps the defense honest. I'm not saying it's going to work every time.

#1 Garrett is a joke of an OC

#2 our o-line is average

#3 Romo is trying to be more careful with the football
