I guess the deep throws to Austin this year have been my imagination. Man, mine is a good one.

None of those have been real "bombs" though. The closest to it was the Kansas City one where he made the great catch. The Atlanta one was thrown a good 30 yards, but still mostly run. I agree with the OP that we don't really take any shots 40-50 yards down field, the only one I really remember is the one in the Giants game that was picked off.

Uh...not at all what I was saying.

I'm saying we can throw the ball deep a couple of times a game regardless of protection. And taking that one or two shots, even if they don't work, keeps the defense honest. I'm not saying it's going to work every time.

I know what you intended. You just made it sound so easy. Had to give you some grief.;)

Can you say "the deeper the throw the lower the completion %?"

The basics escape some. People whine about Romo and ball security, taking less risks etc. Then they want him to chuck it down the field 5 or 6 times for 50 or 60 yard bombs and hope we hit. You can not have it both ways.

I agree 100%. Alot of the bad ints we've had the past couple seasons have been on plays trying to do just that. Now Romo has a season where other than one game, he's taken great care of the ball and people still complain.

Yes and No.

Sometimes at OC you have to design a play that goes deep knowing that. You can't tell me that opponent of GB doesn't know they are going deep.

It's the scheme and QB mostly I think.

If teams play you deep to take away the deep throw, thwn you have to run the ball to force the defense to cheat up. That way, you set up play-action to beat how the defense is playing you. But that's not what Garret does; instead, if a defense plays the deep ball, he reverts to the short pass, and that's exactly waht defnses are baiting him into when thry line up that way.

McNabb and Henne skew the data...the Eagles either get the big play or they don't score TDs, and Henne threw that one to Ginn early in the season.

Oh, I never said we should (unless someone gets open on one). I just agree that we never do.

Teams are taking away the deep ball and Romo is protecting the ball like he should. Last year he was being hammered for tossing things into double-coverage and saying it was essentially a punt...

I like that he is being cautious with the ball.

But there are times when you have to throw it deep. Once in 12 games isn't enough. Sometimes good thing happen when you throw it deep. Ask Philip River. Ask Tomlinson....it might open up the run more too as CB will play off.....maybe slants would become more open.

There's a time and place for deep throws. It's just confusing to me that we almost NEVER do.

And I think "never" is an absolute that can't be proven.

they weren't last year. I think it boils down to 4 things

#1 Garrett is a joke of an OC

#2 our o-line is average

#3 Romo is trying to be more careful with the football

#4 our wrs rarely fight for the ball. I haven't seen a Dallas wr dive for a pass since Terry Glenn

Crayton had a nice diving catch against WAS I think.

In general, I think there have been some times where Dallas WRs could have dove and come up with a catch.

It looks a lot easier on television.
