Why does Rod seem to hate FA DT's?

Dallas spent a third round pick on Maliek Collins last year, spent big to sign Cedric Thornton, and Tyrone Crawford's big money deal came when he was a DT.

The Cowboys and Rod have invested, they just haven't gotten the returns. The good news is Collins looks like a keeper.

I dont know how we are ever going to become a top Defense if we keeping sticking scrubs on the DL.
The good ones are usually out of their grasp in the top half of round 1. After that it's all on scouts to find diamonds in the poopoo.

Even last year at #4 Bosa managed to be unavailable.

Why is Rod getting blamed here? I'm sure he would love to have like 3-4 war Daddies on defense. That would only make him look better right? Why would he insist on getting a bunch of scrubs all the time.

Kinda like asking for a bunch of interns on your team at the office.

Agreed.

To suggest the guy is stupid about defensive football is goofy.

From watching him here in Chicago, I really think he just thinks it is his scheme. It is not about sacks to him, it is a bend but don't break D.

Huh? The Bears were a turnover machine with top-ten sacks under Marinelli.

Marinelli has no choice to bend a lot with the current Cowboy personnel. You can be sure he'd like more talent for his defense.

I've loved what Rod's done with this bunch of junk. It's the same crowd complaining time and again about not rushing 8 on every down I saw complaining about Wade not rushing 8 on every down. Meanwhile the team, with a minimum of defensive talent, got this thing to 13-3 last year with a rookie quarterback.

Here's some news: cover and tackle is a good, legitimate option for a defense. It can fail. It can carry you. It can be your best bet especially when the best rusher you have is named Mayowa.

I was told Rod was a dline guru...
Yet we've consistently been on the bottom of the NFL in sacks

Funny how that happens when Jerry drafts guys who smoke but don't play. Or just don't play with injuries.

Let's give you some duct tape and see how you do.

Word around the camp fire is he has shied away from first round war Daddies that are DTs, take that with a grain of salt.

Dlaw? Tyrone? No one is making any kind of step up improvements. Only one that I've seen finally is Collins everyone else barley has a pulse on the dline

I mean if rod cNt get it done with duct tape he or someone in the room needs to step on the table and beat it down for some talent to make up for scheme/coaching

That was Lovie's D. Dallas does not play what Chicago was playing.

He is a defensive guru.

Without him..

no matter how good DAK and Zeke get..

without Marinelli pulling the levers and switches..

like a Wizard of Oz or something..

We are feces.

This D is about the 3Tech the Will, not the NT or MLB.

Why is it that the cowboys never invest in the DT position? We seem to have no problem drafting or signing CBs but always go cheap on the DT spot.
Because he finds them in the draft Maliek Collins....

We are going to add from scraps left over? Awesome.

When you have time I'll have to teach you about this thing called the "NFL Draft".

OK a short synopsis because you're always "Mr. Positive" on here...

In the NFL Draft the Dallas Cowboys will get to acquire more players! And some of those guys are defensive players!

Isn't that some crazy **** or what?

My theory has always been he likes taking young guys or guys that have underachieved for their career and have them that way there's no expectation for his unit. Instead, we will marvel at his unit for overachieving and constantly praise his coaching. But let's be honest....at one point he had Ware, Spencer and Hatcher all on the line and it didn't seem like he got the best out of that line though he did Hatcher that one year.
