Why Eagles Passed On WR Roy Williams... Not A Good WR

They pursued Fitzgerald, and Bolden during spring training, and failed to land one. I often wondered why they didn't pursue Williams. Time will tell. I think he's a good player.

Eagles FO policy is that it's THEM that has to come out on top with these trades. For example, when they got Stallworth, they only gave up a scrub LB(Simeneau) and a 4th rounder(which they got from the Saints earlier with the Hollis Thomas trade anyways).

When they wanted to get Fitz, they offered Lito, a 2nd rounder, and Osi's ******(Winston Justice, that is). And I believe Reggie Brown was part of the deal too.

Seriously...if they REALLY wanted a highly calibre gamebreaker like Fitz, they're gonna have to do ALOT better than an injury-prone/underachieving corner and a pair of 2nd round busts. And for that matter too, when they wanted Jared Allen in the offseason, the best they offered was Lito + a 2nd day pick.

Bottom line-if you want to acquire the players to make your team better, be prepared to pay up. The Eagles are only kidding themselves to think they can just throw stuff at other teams and expect alot in return.

I think there is some merit in what the guy is saying. Roy has been great for one season but that was two years ago. Other than that he has been good. Good is not worth the premium we paid to get him. That being said, he can be great and has shown he has the tools to do it.

I am rooting for him to put it all together.

Again-not really. Like we all said-IF the Eagles had acquired him instead, Brookover would be foaming "Super Bowl" all over his mouth.

He can't have it both ways.

They have to say that. How else can they explain their competition getting a quality receiver like Roy? I tell you guys I'm glad he didn't end up in Philly. So I kind of see why their papers would write some crap like that.

It's a critical flaw in how they operate. The do not believe in the concept of a mutually beneficially exchange.

They have to "win" every trade and unfortunately for their players, every contract negotiation.

You'll notice that the Eagles will never bargin from a position of weakness.

They have a guy they like coming up for FA they will low-ball them well before FA hits. If the player doesn't sign before FA, they recind the offer.

They will not make a FA offer to one of their players on any other FA who wants to test the market. They will not negotiate fairly in an open competitive market. They only play the game when they can play by their rules.

You'll notice every significant FA signing they ever made was on day one of the process (Kearse, Owens, Samuel). They make a take it or leave it offer before a player can look at or visit other teams. If the player wants any time to field other offers the eagles recind theirs.

That's part of why I love how we stuck it to them on a player they wanted soooo bad.

And don't believe any of this BS propaganda they let loose out the back door channel like the rag that was posted here. That's one of their favorite moves. After they LOOSE OUT on a player they really wanted they spin doctor it via one of their local print media puppets.

That's not a "large chunk" of our draft. Never mind that we got a pick back -- would he call it a "large chunk" if it was just a first and a third?

We still have far more picks than necessary, even after the draft. Several of them probably will end up as pieces of trades, either for players, better picks or future picks.

It should also be noted that the receiving Roy Williams had 17 catches for 232 yards and one touchdown this season for the 0-5 Lions. The Eagles' Hank Baskett has the same number of catches for 13 more yards and one more touchdown. The Eagles' Correll Buckhalter, who is a running back who barely touched the ball in two games this season, has the same amount of catches for 64 fewer yards and the same amount of touchdowns. Even Greg Lewis has only 28 fewer receiving yards than Williams this season.

The Eagles have played one more game than the Lions, and they've had Donovan McNabb throwing the ball, not Dan Orlovsky and Jon Kitna.

2 of those games were against the lowly Rams and Niners to boot-their Ds are worse than high schoolers. Roy would have had career games against both.

Remember in the last draft, like 90% of the 2nd rounders could very well have been drafted in the 1st round in any other other.
