Why is Dak refusing to give the cowboys a discount? Mahomes did!

$35M/average salary with $110M guaranteed is low balling for a QB with a 1-2 playoff record in 4-1/3 years coming off a serious ankle break? Yeah, okay. How much is Dak's PR team paying you for this crap?
Exactly . And we could get a proven QB much cheaper . Heck , Brady coat 26 mil this year and is back in the Super Bowl . Some fans throw 35 mil cap hit as if it is candy . This team needs SERIOUS money to be put on the DEFENSE .

I turn down my performance raises and bonuses at work every other year. The discount I give my boss gets me all warm and fuzzy. I also negotiate my salary down when it’s time to hire new blood. As I said in another thread I am proudly the lowest paid member on my team.

You are making two assumptions. One, that is the final Mahomes' contract, it isn't. Two, they would use the savings to fix the defense. They have already proven that is a false assumption.

They don't want him to take a hometown discount to help build the defense; they want him to do that so they can do whatever they want. They do not know how to build a defense.
Valid points . If Jerry and Stephen don’t use the savings to fix defenses ,this team won’t go anywhere. I have a feeling Stephen wants to fix the defense . Jerry wants to sign his stars !! Jerry ran Parcells out of town because he wanted TO . Parcells didn’t .

It's about money more than championships. Some players will take a discount because they know they need players around them to win a championship. Brady would take less money so the Patriots could address other positions.
Conclusion , Dak doesn’t want to win or invest his future in this franchise and the city of dallas. His brother may have given away that little secret , he wants out .

Mahomes didn't give a discount. He got first round money and on the books for half a billion by the end of his contract.

Dak got 4th round money and asked for 35 a year for 4 years. Heck ownership wanted him for 5 years and Dak said no you dont have to do that.
So he could get to a new and bigger contract quicker

why is Dak allowing his contract saga to continue this long ? This is a great town with great state tax savings , and prime time endorsements , which Dak has already cashed in on . After all , Jerry selected Dak in the 4th round while others passed on him . Jerry surrounded him with the most expensive OL RB WR combos to succeed .

The cowboys need all the savings to fix the Defense . They spent the least money on defense among all NFL teams in 2020 61.4 Mil , except for the jets .

Yet ,Dak is not relenting one inch for the sake of this team like Mahomes or Brady and others did to help their teams .

look at the fabulous discount Mahomes gave the chiefs . A dream contract by all means for a super bowl winner . The chiefs were able to spend big on defense last year , spending 97 mil to stack up their defense ( 6th highest investment in defense among all teams ) . Mahomes cap hit was actually 5.3 mil in 2020 . If he continues to play this good , his cap hit will be 24.8 mil in 2021 , and 31.5 in 2022 . This is how you win Super Bowls !!!

In contrast, Dak’s cap hit last year was 31.4 Mil and now wants 40 mil a year.?? On top of the mistake expensive zeke and other contracts ?
This is how you remain irrelevant and 25 years away from a super bowl appearance !!
Only Dak and his agent and Jerry know the current status of the negotiations. My guess is it's Dak's agent for the right or wrong reasons....

Does Mahomes and Brady have talent around them? Asking for my grandma because she keeps rambling on about Peyton, Montana, Elway, Young, Kelly, Bradshaw and Aikman all being on teams loaded with talent on both sides of the ball.

Yes they do . KC used the savings to load up on defense . Same as the bucs .

Lol there is nothing greedy about other than fact that one doesn’t just like him for some reason.

He has same stats and better win % than Watson, Geoff & Wentz. He never got first round money and was severaley underpaid for four years.

All these hating fans needs to stop lying about their true intents and just say “ I JUST DON’T LIKE DAK” I am just being a real hater.

You are wrong. I like Dak. I have supported him here since day 1. I wish there was no cap. I wish the roster didn’t need so much work. I am not sure Dak is worth 40 mm. That is my issue. Love the guy but know that a Max contract will hurt this team.

What’s wrong with 35 for 5 years . Dak could have made it work .

This is a good question. I fully understand that every player has a right and an obligation to seek the best contract possible for himself and his family. I don't expect any player to give a discount to the Cowboys. But still, when you see this, it means a lot. It means the player wants to be with the team. It means he wants to win, and it means he has a lot of confidence in himself and his ability to take the team to a championship. Guys who pinch pennies or show too much concern for the contracts appear to put winning second to personal status. Honestly, when a player gets $100 million guaranteed over 5 years, is a couple of million more so important to him that he won't sign? To me, that is a sing he is not fully committed to this team even though he may think he is. I don't it against Dak that he wants what he wants and won't settle for less, but I'd rather have the guy willing to shave a few bucks off his contract to be with this team.

This is why I think the Cowboys and Dak will part ways at some point. If Dak holds out for $40 million, a number I would never pay him, or refuses to sign a deal at all forcing the Cowboys to franchise him again, then I would trade him. If he does not sign in 2021 then he is never going to sign and next year they cannot franchise him. In 2022 he walks and the Cowboys get nothing more than a 3rd round comp pick. Trade him in 2021 and they should be able to get at least a 1st round pick for him.

I know it sucks to have to go find a QB again, but it is not up to the Cowboys alone. Dak has to agree to stay in Dallas and despite his words, which mean nothing, by not signing to a reasonable deal he is showing he is not committed to Dallas. And the Cowboys offered him a very reasonable deal based on media reports.
Exactly my point . He is not interested in investing in this team or city and has no inclination to help improve the roster . Many of his teammates will need to be cut due to his cap hit by the way . Greed is bad !

Didn't Witten and Romo both take a reduction in salary so the FO could try to build a better team? Let us when Zak and Dak do the same.
They did no such thing. Great job trying to create a false narrative though. And even if it was true....great job it did.....it resulted in so many playoff wins.

Many of his teammates need to be cut so that's a plus.

Another tag will hurt this team tremendously on the cap , and there won’t be money to fix the defense .
Thats definitely true. They need that first year to be lower on the cap.

First two actually if possible....then they can shed 54 and 21.....possibly 19....to gain some cap room.

The only real way to pay Dakota and also win right now is draft extremely well (not just telling themselves they did) and get some real coaching.

Edit.....not to mention if he plays again on the tag he is definitely gone and I don't see plan B anywhere around.

To keep the argument on track, the question is, would you rather have a player who does, in fact, give his team a discount on his contract, or a player who refuses to sign until he gets every demand met, even if it costs the team in other areas?
Do you not think making a gesture for the team sends a positive signal to the entire team? The signal being our QB is 100% committed to us?

It is understood that most players do not give discounts to their teams. There is nothing wrong with that either. I think the point is straightforward. Would you like it if Dak took $35 million instead of $40 million (numbers are just examples) so Jerry had a few dollars to spend on the defense?
