I honestly don't get the desire by QBs to earn maximum dollars, is it an ego thing or a badge of honour?
There's no way you sit in your home in 20 years' time and say "you know, what....I'm really struggling on my $150m, wish I'd pushed for $180m so I could get the bigger yacht". I know I say it as joke but really, does it make any difference at that level? If you are say, a JAG TE then yes, push for everything you can get as it probably will make a difference to your eventual family wealth but a top level QB won't even notice the extra squeeze.
I always remember many years' ago Sting (from the band the Police) was robbed by his accountant and he didn't even notice.....he has/had that much money he didn't even realise millions had been stolen from him! I say that to illustrate these people don't know what to do with their cash above a certain level.
So with that in mind, don't you think the better option would be to sit as as old man is 50 years' time and say "I had a great career, I earned a fortune and I won X divisional titles, Y championships and Z superbowls" rather than "I had a great career and made a fortune, that's it". You still earn a fortune on option A!!!!
We are not talking about a working class man earning say, $50k a year where earning $55k would help his family with I don't know, a nicer car, a great annual vacation that kind of thing. That person absolutely push your employer for every last dollar you can get.
I'd love to have the skill and talent to play QB for Dallas and I can honestly say, I would do the deal to allow the team to bring in top level talent and win ring/s rather than take so much off the table it makes it harder to win. Am I that far out of touch with professional athletes that I am talking rubbish? I don't think I am.
To be clear, I'm not calling Dak greedy, I think he's great. Virtually all the players seem to want to do it and I fail to see why.
