Why is the press laying off Manning and his egg-laying?

Well it's not as if we Cowboys fans have anything else to talk about this time of year.

To the original point, ol' Peyton definitely deserves to be criticized for this performance. Peyton is showered with all the accolades and praise when they win. You didn't hear anyone mention anything about the team around him when they were winning and setting all these records. But when they lose, you hear all about the team and nothing about Peyton (wow, this really sounds familiar)

Peyton Manning, 5-time MVP, laid a huge egg in the biggest game of the year. He SHOULD receive criticism but he won't because he's Peyton Manning and he has good numbers.

The real problem is that most people look for person to either praise or blame coz it easy to do.

The reality is, it’s a team game and the praise/blame needs to be shared.

That of course is a lot harder to analyse so people tend to shy away from it.

It was Denver as a team that laid a huge egg not just any one player.

Seattle in Met Life against any manning = blow out

I mean..

if this was Romo and he played like this..

..which he has and been blasted unmercifully for just such a collapse.

..but the press is giving Manning a free pass here.

Just wasn't Manning's day?

Oh my..

Free Pass Free Pass.

Not fair. Not fair.

Payton is proving to be a choker.

There, I said it.

I posted this about a month to go:

I would be one of those people, Peyton has played some of his worst football In some of the most pressure packed moments.

2002 playoffs against the Jet 41-0 loss, threw for 137 yards.
2003 playoffs against the Patriots lost with a passer rating of 35 and 4 ints.
2004 playoffs against the Patriots lost with a passer rating of 69 offense held to 3 points.
2005 lost at home to the Steelers.
2006 won Super Bowl against one of the worst team to make the big game.
2007 lost at home to SD, Peyton played well but couldnt lead his team on a game winning drive.
2008 lost at home to SD in ot.
2009 threw pick six in super bowl to seal defeat.
2010 lost at home to Jets
2011 did not play
2012 terrible pass thrown in ot that leads to defeat

To top it off Tennessee won a national championship one year after he left. If it werent for the 2006 season you wouldnt hear much about Romo at all. There is a reason the say he is the best "regular season" qb of all time, and really that should be an insult.

Now you can add the yesterday to that list.

I think Seattle's effort and defense had more to do with his 'choking' which I don't buy. But I totally agree with the rest.

Love his ability to QB but he does have problems in the playoffs. I don't follow his teams well enough to warrant a lot of criticism but you make a great point. I still say he's one of the best QBs I've ever seen. What you saw last nite is you have to have time to throw the ball and you WRs have to get open. Otherwise no QB will do well.

Why do cowboys fans always have to worry about what the media or other fans feel about players from other teams?

Because we dont have much football success to talk about from our own team?

It gives us a break from some Jerry bashing?

Yeah I agree, but if this was Tony it would be an all out assault this morning.

When it matters most, Peyton more times than not, hasn't played up to his great regular season stats.

He's the greatest regular season QB, playoffs not so much. And it looks like he will always live in his brothers shadow over that. People saying he's the GOAT are crazy.

At the end of the day, Peyton still has a Ring. That's the main reason he's getting any kind of pass. While I believe Romo shouldn't get anywhere near as much blame for a Team Loss, if he had a ring on his finger, it would ( & should ) be much less.

Why are they laying off?

5-time NFL MVPs and he has a ring.

Same reason why Favre deflected a ton of criticism that any other QB would have endured -- 3-time MVP and won a ring.

The ring is the thing.

Okay....line up Manning's play-off wins, and compare to Romo's.

Manning has lost 2 out of 3 SBs.

Both by lopsided scores.

Manning's failure to produce in the clutch is becoming his mantra.

The perception that Manning shines in the season and flops in the post season already exists. Are you seriously saying you've never heard people talk about that? That disaster yesterday isn't going to help his legacy one bit.

I'm not a Romo apologist I'm just calling it like it is, Manning has failed more times than not in the biggest moments. It's not like he played well and his team lost, in the games I mentioned, he played subpar and is just not clutch imo. Greatest regular season qb in history, that's a backhanded compliment if you really look at it.

I knew this thread would pop up. The Manning failed thread. One had to wonder how long it would take for the assault on Manning. But the more salient question would be, will the creator of this thread try and align with the "Woe is Romo" slant.

And like clockwork, I get up and come here and there it is. This thread.

So, how many times Red ball Express have you made an excuse for Romo that it was the defense? How many times have you made an excuse for Romo that it was the offensive line?

Just curious.

However, in your glee to brand Peyton a choker, let's be real for just one tiny minute.

He has been to the play-offs a bunch, has won in the play-offs, has been to three Super Bowls, and has won one.

I'm not a huge Peyton fan, at all. Nor am I not a Romo fan.

But I do love a bit of hypocricy when it rears its head.

Give me a break, Manning is the greatest QB of this generation, and it's really not close. Romo is a proven loser.

Here's a thought, and maybe I'm just crazy for thinking this way... But maybe Romo should try avoiding a 5 year playoff drought before we jump the gun on why he's not "treated fairly" by the media...
