Why losing Austin MIGHT not be that bad...

So free agency starts tmr morning and we will be tendering Miles Austin a 1st & 3rd RFA tender which allows him to sign a deal with another team, while we get the right to match. There has been talk that a 1st and a 3rd will likely keep teams away and even if someone signs him to a deal Jerry will just match it.

I'm throwing out what could be a possibility: That someone signs him to a deal with a poison pill in it, something to the effect that he has his entire contract guaranteed if he plays more than 4 games in North Texas. Well that we couldn't match, Jerry would love to keep Austin but won't guarantee the entire contract of what could be a $30+ million deal. In this unfortunate case we would be letting Austin walk for a 1st and a 3rd, both are likely to be higher than our current 1st and 3rd.

But after getting our additional 1st and 3rd what are we to do? Well let's look at the WRs out there on the market right now:

Vincent Jackson RFA 1st & 3rd
Brandon Marshall RFA 1st
Anquan Boldin (probably would take a 1st rounder)
Malcom Floyd RFA 1st & 3rd

These are just the four off the top of my head to name a few. And just a note we'd be keeping the 1st & 3rd from the Austin deal, b/c any tender that goes unmatched is off of the team's original pick. So in the end if we were to sign for example, Vincent Jackson to a deal with a poison pill in it where if he played more than 4 games in the state of California in any single season his entire contract was guaranteed, then that would virtually guarantee us getting a #1 WR to replace Austin and in the end we'd basically have moved up in the draft.

In the end losing Austin may not be as bad as we all think it might be.... Just food for thought.

Only one I'd consider in this scenario

I'm sorry, you might've made some good points in the original post, but I didn't bother to read them.

Austin was the reason our team changed midseason, last year. He is the player we've been searching for at WR since Irvin. You don't let someone like him go. For anything...So I won't even entertain the thought of losing him.

If the team who gives us their 1st and 3rd round pick is around 12 to 17 I will be ecstatic. I will immediately become a "Draft Rolando McClain *****" again. I will be okay with a WR with our 27th pick. I will be okay with OL in the 2nd and 3rd round. I will pimp Kevin Ogletree or the Drafted WR like a drunken monkey.

But I'd rather keep Miles.

Don't get me wrong, I want to keep Austin.... that's why he's my avatar. But in the end when you think about worst case scenario, would it be a disaster if we moved up to say 10-15 spots in the draft in the 1st & 3rd rounds while also going from Austin to say Jackson..... I don't think it's be all that bad, I mean my Austin jersey would be useless at that point (I think that's the part that would really upset me).

Williams and Crayton as this team's starting receivers?

Hello 6-10.

In my opinion, it wouldn't matter if McClain turned Dallas into the best defense in the league, the offense would be anemic enough to shackle them and you'd have 'half a team".

Roy Williams' struggles are bad enough, losing the only real receiving threat on this team would be fatal.

So the picks a team receives from losing a player to rfa, would they receive the picks for this year's draft or next year?

The scenario is using our picks to get a top notch WR to replace Austin through RFA tenders. So it wouldn't be RW11/Crayton, it'd be A proven WR#1/RW11, and you'd likely have higher picks in the range to get McClain.
