How is the game going to suffer? No matter how much the QBs get paid, the league will still have the same players actually playing in the league. The game wont change 1 bit, just who is making the lions share of the money. The league/owners have exactly what they want with a cap.... a league that allows teams like the Bills and Bengals to get in a super bowl. If there was no cap, the Cowboys would be like the Dodgers and Yankees, and the Bengals would be like the Oakland A's.

The league has never been more popular/powerful, and the cap is part of the reason for that..... by the way, I despise the cap.

The team played well enough to win that playoff game last year. The Dak pick was atrocious which immediately led to a niner TD.
We got the ball back 2 time sin the final 5 minutes of the game and Dak did squat. You like history......... you think we would have lost that game if Roger Staubach was our QB last year?
Our defense was atrocious . Couldn’t stop the run and no qb sacks. If SF had a better qb game over at halftime .

And we couldn’t run he ball, protect our QB( 5 sacks) 10 OL penalties killing drives . We had no business winning that game. Dominated in almost every aspect. We can’t expect our less than Elite QB to bail this team out in last second gasps.

Staubach never won a championship without a Doomsday defense .

Pray like hell they get lucky. Who are the QBs that have won the last 3 SBs?
Yes, and they all had formidable defenses.

No one is denying it’s much easier with Elite QB’s who can help overcome lesser teams but they don’t win it every year . They need the balance of a good defense .

The Cowboys with less than an Elite QB can never expect a deeper run without a top 10 caliber defense .

If we’re waiting on this QB to miraculous pull out victories over better teams and defenses then we are going to continue being disappointed.

Murray’s cap hit 2022- 6.7 million

His cap hit for 2022 is low because it's still part of his rookie contract. You might also want to check that number, they added signing bonus money to it.

Then 2023 is his 5th year option. 2024 starts his new contract he just signed. They better hope the cap skyrockets, because 2024 is a fat cap hit.

The Cap is expected to increase significantly with new TV deal upcoming. It’s why the 17th game was added. And Amazon deal amongst other upgrades and additions including Sunday Ticket.

It’s why Dak only wanted a 4 year deal. They all knew the Cap was potentially going to explode. 40-50 million cap hit most likely won’t be as impactful as today.

We can say it’s handicapping a team or we can ask GM’s to do the totality of their job.

I see Stafford on that list yet the Rams have no issue acquiring new talent outside of the draft. I see Dak up there yet we have the second most cap space in the NFL. The Saints have done this stuff for years.

These contracts aren’t easy to maneuver but it’s doable. Being a GM is a hard job and this is one of the responsibilities. Gotta manipulate the cap and build around the QB contact. It’s not easy but it’s been done.

Stafford had a low cap hit to begin with when he was acquired in the trade. His cap hit this year is only 13.5M and only 20M next year. The Rams did nothing to lower that cap hit. In 2024 it will be 50M, but who knows how high the cap will be by then? But for the time being, Stafford isn't a cap issue for the Rams.

Right, but when? Remember 2020, when the cap was kept artificially higher? Or was that 2019? I forget. The teams are still paying that back. So I'm not sure when the cap is supposed to spike. But I don't think it's next year. Maybe 2024?

I’ve heard 2023 or 2024. We know the new Sunday Ticket will be in 2023. Amazon Prime starts this year. I expect more upgrades to come .

Yeah, you'd think it would be paid back by now. And how much more could there possibly be in 2023? But we don't have any of this info.

No , not yet. Pure speculative but with the new or upgraded revenue streams coming in we can expect an increase in tv revenue which means larger Caps.

The TV Networks alone last year adding the 17th game and additional playoff games shelled out much more and willing to pay more as the NFL is a cash cow for them.

They will most likely restructure, convert part of it to a signing bonus and add a year or two to spread out the hit.

This place is going to be fun when that happens.

I'm thinking they don't plan on doing that. That's the reason they're piling up cap space. They don't have a lot of bills coming up for 2023. Even if they give big extensions, they don't start in 2023. All the Cowboys usually do is get cheap FAs and draft players. Why save the cap money?

I think they'll convert some to bonus money, but Dak won't be a 20M cap hit next year. I'm guessing around 35-40M instead of 50M.

Well, we're going to need it.

College is definitely preparing their QBs much better
Than in the past.

Maybe I'm missing something, but it seems to me that college is pumping out more first read run QBs. Who were the good QBs that came out of last year's draft? Maybe Lawrence? Mac Jones seems to be ok at best.

I suspect that Jason and Rod cost Dak a Super bowl appearance in 2016.

Do I need to rattle off a bunch of statistics to get you back in line? What are you doing? Are you watching? Do I need to remind you how many 300 yard passing games he has compared to other QBs using some arbitrary time frame? Or TD passes? Ask me anything, I have all of it right here in black and white. You don't have to watch anything.

It would have been really tough getting by Atlanta. The Cowboys would have had to have 40 minutes TOP to pull that off. Atlanta would have scored at will against the Cowboys.

rattle off 300 yard passing games? Matt Ryan, using your statistics based analysis is far superior to any Dallas Cowboys QB in history. IM assuming you actually watched football for more than 20 years? There is a reason Tua Tagovoila put together a season that is comparable to a Roger Staubach type season last year. Is he as good as Roger???? bahahahhaha

They literally actually changed their whole strategy lol. The bengals were more active in FA from 2020 to 2021 as they’ve ever been. Guys like Chido, Trey Hendrickson, and Larry Ogunjobi were the exact type of signings they never make. Burrow presence pushed ownership to act.
like I said, amazing how that all came together so fast after Joe arrived. What a coincidence... he just snapped his fingers and management went out and built a winner. Damn, this team building in the NFL aint all that hard after all. I mean, Trey Hendrickson..... holy cow what a signing.

Fans seem to forget ........QB is the most critical position on the team and it's not even close. The QB is like the CEO for players/teammates. His talent, salary, Cap, behavior, ethics, communication, boundaries all impacts his teammates and franchise. Considering team gets nearly $200M salary cap to divide among players, it's no surprise the position carrying the most weight is the highest paid.

What percent of NFL revenue goes to players?

NFL and NBA players have benefitted from the revenue growth, as their collective bargaining agreements directly tie player compensation to revenues. Players in both leagues are guaranteed roughly 50% of revenue through their respective salary caps.Dec 7, 2021
