Why Not Bob Stoops??

Are you sure you meant to rag me? Did you respond to the wrong post? I haven't mentioned Switzer? All I said was that he hasn't been able to win in the past few years in a very average Big 12. Would you not agree with that? Also, I don't think I had any credibility with this forum. It is an opinion forum so it really doesn't matter. Still not sure where you were going with me on this? I like Stoops, but he, to me, is just another in the long line of college coaches that came out HOT and now has cooled off a bit, and no way do I want him to be the next coach of the Dallas Cowboys. I don't know where Switzer came in the conversation. If you are the "get lost" monitor then by all means I will be happy to do so.

Well, in the past few years he has been less than great in an average, and I mean average Big 12, and that is in college where there is no salary cap and all you have to do is pay your recruits more than Texas pays theirs!!!! No thanks.

Can you tell us what you mean by your last sentence?

Are you saying that Oklahoma and Texas are paying recruits? Cuz that is how I took it. Yes - that struck a cord w/ me. Sorry. :D

You Stoops haters are funny. Whatever will you do if he gets the job?:laugh2:

More to the point, what will YOU do when he DOESN'T??

Feel like pulling a HeavyHitta, and banning yourself from the board for a month if Stoops is not the next head coach of the Dallas Cowboys?? Wanna put your money where your mouth is??

Oklahoma beat #6 Oregon in their bowl game in 2006.

Might've been rated #6 but everyone and their mothers knew they were overrated.

Thats why they got voted out of the BCS and proved it even more when they lost to an OU team that was struggling with teams like Baylor down the stretch.

But yeah sure ok they beat #6 Oregon Congrats.

Only other team Oregon played that year that was worth a crap was USC and they got hammered.

You better stop these facts you are throwing out so carelessly. You may just make some of the nay-sayers go do some HOMEWORK.

I think Stoops is a very good college coach, I think Steve Spurrier is a very good college coach heck I would put Steve Spurrier record up aginst Stoops any day of the week that does not mean they did or will make good NFL coaches. As I said if Stoops were named HC believe me I'll give him a chance to prove himself but he is not at the top of my wish list by any means.

I think its funny that some of you guys claim its sooner fans that want stoops.

I'm a Texas fan and respect the heck out of Stoops, but a real bonus of getting Stoops in Dallas(besides winning a Super Bowl:)) would be the heartache it would cause Sooner fans.

If you guys really believe OU fans want Stoops to go to Dallas you truly don't understand the dynamics involved.

I think we need a person with NFL expirience. I am not fond of stoops, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't do good, but I would rather have someone with coaching expirience in the NFL before we go out and get someone without NFL expirience.

??? I've made no predictions, bub, only suggestions. Have NEVER said Stoops would be the next coach. What are you talking about?

I agree with this.

Gary Patterson of TCU who had a 11-1 team in 05? Les Miles who just recently got hired as the Head Coach of LSU, one of the very best College Football Programs in America? Pete Carroll who has only run the most succesful college program in College Football over the past 5 years? Nick Saben who has had his pick of coaching positions for the last 4 or 5 years? Last but not least, Paul Bear Bryant - Coach of the year and second most winning program over the past 5 seasons Chris Peterson.

I'm sorry, I fail to see the shame in this.

That's a lot of coaches who outcoached him, IMO... how 'bout we go after one of THEM, if we're looking to hire a college coach on the cheap??

I agree I would rather see a coordinator who has shown success in the NFL over a college coach. That does not mean a college coach can't do it but I would rather see some one who has paid his dues at this level of competition

Pick him and then lets really look at who they lost to as well.

Thats because your a Texas Fan.

If I was a Texas fan i'd love the way Stoops coaches because he has came down their and beat the hell out of the Longhorns so bad that they cant say anything.

After you watch Mack Brown do the hand clap week in and week out every Saturday it probably does get you excited to see a coach who shows emotion.

The guy keeps bringing up Rich Kottie. I think that's who he really wants. Makes me think he's really an Eagles fan. The Stoops stuff is a smokescreen.

Other than being a Longhorns fan I have nothing personal against Stoops but I would rather see him go to the NFL as a coordinator and prove it there before handing over the keys of the entire team.

I know one thing. Ole Stoops has Mack Brown's number on most Saturdays. :D

Not lately. Texas is the one winning that match up and did so this past season.

That's not realistic. Stoops will never go to the NFL as an assistant. The money alone is reason why. If you want a guy like Stoops, you have to offer him. Unfortunatly, that's the way that kind of deal works.

Dallas;1332044 said:
ABQ - honestly. You are wasting your time in any slight defense of Stoops w/ these folks.

Ill let Stoops record speak for itself.

86-19 over the past 6 years?? Somin like that.

WOW!!!

The Sooners have played 105 games over the past 6 years?? That's 17-18 games a year, that has to be an NCAA record...

The plain truth of the matter is, the last 2 years, the Sooners have been a decent, but hardly intimidating, 19-7... IOW, though he achieved great success early in his NCAA career, he has seen his program regress here lately... and now, his stud running back is headed to the NFL, how will his boys fare next year??

From where I sit, Stoops looks like he took the nation by storm when he first went to OU, then folks finally figured out what he's doing... we also need to recognize that year in and year out, the Sooners have one of the nation's top recruiting classes, meaning he's put up that 86-19 record (over EIGHT years, not six), while generally having the superior talent at his disposal...

There's a lot of coaches out there that can win when you give them a more talented roster to start out with, but Stoops won't be able to gain a talent edge in "recruiting" in the NFL... and the recent past seems to indicate that Stoops isn't that great when the other team has comparable levels of talent, as they generally will in the NFL...

Im not a Texas fan but they have been playing well against OU as of late.

OU is in for some more beat downs as long as Texas has Colt McCoy as their QB.

That kid is special and in a conference thats as watered down as the big 12 is Texas fans should be excited about their opportunity to win another National Championship within the next 3 years.

Last sentence, no thanks, means I don't really want him to come here and it is more of a reflection on how college coaches have done in recent memory in the NFL. J/K. I do understand what you are asking. My 2nd to last sentence was meant to be a joke. It is to say that he can recruit any player in the country and not have to deal with salary caps or free agency. All he has to deal with is his BIGGEST rival TEXAS. All he has to be sure of is to get that recruit a bigger car or pay them more than Mac does at Texas. I was joking, but the way you reacted is a joke. Sorry this was sensitive to you, but if you don't think EVERY team other than Duke football doesn't compensate their players in some way then maybe you should get lost sir.
