Why not just announce, Dak will play out his contract?

Because Jerry Jones would rather keep this in the news to keep people talking about the Cowboys.

He's more concerned about articles, clicks and relevance than he is about building a winning team.
This. Weird this hasn't been the first reply. Jerry continues to be top news and that's what he wants.

Unfortunately that's the only thing he's good at regarding the Cowboys.

....with all this talk nonsense occurring, which is actually making Dak look bad.

Jerry should button his pants all the way up and announce no contract will be made until end of year.

..your thoughts?
Maintain hype and “interest” which brings eyeballs which translates into revenue

There is zero percent chance we sign Dak unless he leads us to a SB

I think Shedeur and Prime are in our future next off season

The revenue the Prime brand could add to the Cowboys brand would be astronomical

Jerry Jones screwed things up months ago. All of this should have been dealt with before the draft. He should have dealt with CeeDee and Dak before the draft. Is anyone going to argue that Jerry did not know exactly how much he was willing to pay either of these players back in March? He had to have some idea. Now, he either signs these players or looks like an incompetent boob for losing 2 tops players for nothing more than comp picks in the 2025 draft.

He's gonna keep CeeDee

Better yet, since Prescot will not be returning after this season why not announce that Prescot is going to be benched in favor of Rush and Lance. Prescot and his agents will go BALLISTIC, football experts high and low will say the only way to fix this mess is for Prescot to wave his NO-TRADE agreement, PRESTO, JJ listens to draft offers and the Cowboys weasel out of a horrible situation that could have handcuffed this organization for YEARS to come, but by trading Prescot this organization will walk away with some draft capital for 2025 and beyond! By signing Prescot the Cowboys are only going to gain an OLDER and lousier Prescot...............

At some point Dak will exactly do that.

You realize that is not going to happen. Right? Why would Dak go ballistic? In your asinine scenario Dak would be paid $29 million for not risking injury between now and the end of the season. He and his agent would be thrilled. Jerry Jones created this “horrible situation”. His way out would be finding a better quarterback than Dak Prescott. Hopefully he’s working on that.

YEAH, you keep thinking that, if this season get's off to a rocky start, bet the house it's going to be the next man up and if this happens an unsigned Prescot will demand a trade just to get out of town before he'll sit a chunk of the 2024 season. Teams will shy away from him in 2025 since he got benched in 2024 because the Cowboys were losing games with him as the starter. An older and lousier Prescot does not add up to big bucks on the open market.

It's not beyond possible, but it's real unlikely. They'd have to be buried, like 0-6 and Dak would have to be playing terrible for them to make a change. Both of those are unlikely. The only other way would be Lance absolutely balling in pre-season.

Dak has a history of betting on himself and winning. He'll get his bag.

Cowboys fans fantasize about Dak facing retribution for that playoff game vs. Green Bay. They can’t stand that after disappointing them he’s going to end up being paid more than $55 million per season to play in the NFL. If the Cowboys go 0-17 and he throws 25 interceptions this season he’s going to walk away and still get paid over $55 million per season to play in the NFL. There is nothing Jerry Jones can do about it. Get over it for heavens sake. Dak handled the business end of his football career well. He sought and received a contract from the Cowboys that gives him control of his career. You hate that he’s pulled that off. Too bad. Dak is going to “win” a big contract and he’s going to win huge. And so what? If Dallas doesn’t sign him they’ll just come up with someone else to be their quarterback. Jerry and Dak will be happy either way. Why can’t you be happy for them?

The only thing that can hurt Dak is if he is absolutely horrible in 2024. Russel Wilson on the Broncos bad. Unless he goes back to the old Wilson, he'll never get another market value contract.

That would not hurt him. If the Cowboys do poorly the blame will be spread out over many variables. It will be pinned on all the concerns being discussed now. Losing starters to free agency. Claiming to be all in and then not being aggressive signing free agents to replace them. Depending on rookies to provide top performance. Being too slow to sign the team’s top weapon on offense resulting in missing training camp and making him disgruntled. Failing to sufficiently upgrade the run game. Leaving your head coach twisting in the wind on the final year of a contract. And then you could add poor quarterback play from Dak Prescott who only a year before had his best season as a pro. So it would not all be blamed on Dak as the other 31 teams would know exactly what the problems were. And if it escaped some teams‘ attention Micah Parsons will have shared every adverse Cowboys issue with the entire world on a podcast every freakin’ week. Dak is as close to bullet proof career-wise as a player can get.

His many people know that if Dak doesn’t sign a new deal, he still counts for 42 million against it next year?

That doesn’t scare Jerry Jones. He just rationalizes it away as the business of football. And since he considers himself an expert in the business of football, totally warranted by the way, it is just another of many bumps in the road.

I don't disagree with you. If true, you'd be totally right. My scenario was if Dak looked as bad as Wilson did with the Broncos. Not everything else collapsing around him. We'll know the difference.

Funny thing is....all 3 players are under contract. Jerry doesn't haven't to do a damn thing. These players haven't won squat. So why should Jerry budge? If I was him....I think I would play it out too.
I'd franchise Parsons and Lamb as much as possible till they actually win something of significance

At this point I think you’re right. Had Jerry made this decision back in march when dak would have had an opportunity to fully learn a new offense, and a team would have had time to create an offense catered to his strengths he would probably have been more open to it.

It’s simply too late for Dak to risk going to a new team this late in the game. He would be smart to just sit out 2024 rather than submit to a trade.

Personally, I don't care how much he makes on the open market as long as it's not with the Cowboys. He's about as untrustworthy of an NFL QB that currently plays in the league. The Packer beatdown should be the last straw for this overpaid, over hyped, less than mediocre QB. Prescot has had a bad habit of going MIA in BIG games and resigning him is just going to extend the Cowboys drought to get deep into the playoffs.
