They continue to come out to Oxnard because I have spoken to Jerry about it a couple of times. I reminded him that myself and my oldest daughter go down there each year, watch a couple days of practice and get in 2 days of Golf at the course right next to the training camp site. After Golf, we find some great craft beer. So after careful consideration, Jerry agreed with me that it is worth returning to Oxnard to allow myself and my daughter continue our tradition.

Sorry I'm not from Texas, but I hear everything is BIGGER there. Is there not a location we can hold camp at, instead of having it way out in California??

I'm sure there's a field we can use nearby, what's the point?? Give me your thoughts
Cooler weather

Texas is too hot in July and you don't want to hold your entire training camp indoors on artificial turf. Oxnard is in the 60's and 70's and outside on real grass. When it's 100 degrees outside with humidity players can't focus as well.
I had a house in Oxnard, it can get up in the 80’s and 90’s when they have training camp, trust me I’ve been out there and it felt like it was 110. But yea it’s usually around 70-80 that time of year and there isn’t a lot to do to get in trouble

It's also good to get them all away from their homes so they can focus purely on football.

While it would be nice to have a team full of guys who want to win more than anything, want to be the best they can be, an be entirely into football, that's not the kind of people who are in the NFL these days. Players want to not practice, go out, and look flashy so they get attention and MONEY. It's not about the game anymore for players, it's about getting paid while putting in the least amount of effort possible.

Umm do you know anything about the camps in austin and what some of the players were doing at night? Being out and seen and flashy was as important to that team as practice. Also newsflash a number of guys from that era including emmitt smith, michael irvin and mark stepnoski held out for contracts....money.

None of that is new.

Well, now that I think of it....why can't the team accomplish the same in Frisco inside as they do in Cali?

Ahhhh....must be about the money.

I've said this many times on here but it is 100% about this and the weather.

When they had the proposition for the cowboys getting the stadium here in arlington in 04 one of the big selling points was that Training camp was going to be held in arlington every year so local fans who you know, buy all the damn tickets and support the team the most could go to training camp without having to travel 1400 miles.

but of course it was a straight up lie like everything the jones's do. There were no outside fields constructed in arlington, no cowboys hall of fame and certainly no training camp. They knew this would never happen especially because they owned that land in frisco for a long time and had plans for a new headquarters.

At least years ago we got the blue and white scrimmage at texas stadium and it was free. They used to actually treat it like a game for a little while there and it was a worthwhile thing to watch. Now we are at the point where the blue white scrimmage is a useless event to go to and last year they didn't even allow their own fan base to watch it.

the lot is smaller. You have to take a shuttle from Oxnard high school during the first week of camp. Too many people.

a housing development has taken most of the empty space around the fields.

they now use saw dust on what’s left of the parking.

there is also a parking fee. I thinks it is 10 or 20 per day.

it’s worth it though.
wow its really changed

Did i ever say that wasn't true of some players from the 90's teams?

The real reason is that teams like to get the players away from home.

Baseball teams go to Arizona or Florida.

Most NFL team go somewhere for at least part of training camp.

The Cowboys went to San Antonio for several years to practice in the Alamo Dome which is artificial turf.

Yep. It's good bonding time for the team. Spend days together with less family obligations and home life after practice. Hang out eat together get to know each other.

it has gone down hill fast for the fan experience IMO. Parking sucks, you are pretty much limited to one side of the field now because the housing that has encroached on the space. I will still go, but it is not near as much fun for us as it was 5 or 6 years ago.

Thats because Jerry spent a billion dollars building that place. He damn sure isnt gonna let it sit empty the entire time of training camp.

Yeah it's not the same as 4 or 5 years ago. Big bleachers on one side is the only real access. Still better than nothing but not as accessible lately. There's a vip autograph section but you can stand along the fence and talk to someone of the players. Most of them were pretty cool.

Because here in Cali us Cowboys fans are huge!
Have you been to a game in Cali yet? You'll understand how Rowdy we get out here! The weather, and JJ knows how to keep the youth loyal to The Boys....
