Will Anthony Fasano be better then Jason Witten?

2006 had 8 first day TE picks, 2003 had 7 first day TE picks. Both classes were pretty strong, I still never understood how Witten fell. A lot of teams regret that one.

1st Dallas Clark
2nd Bennie Joppru
2nd L.J. Smith
2nd Teyo Johnson
3rd Jason Witten
3rd Mike Seidman
3rd Vishante Shiancoe

Good research, but the projected quality at the top of the 06 class exceeded the 2003 draft. Leonard Pope was to some a sure 1st rounder, but he slipped to the 3rd round because he was pushed there-- 06 had two 1st rounders while 03's first pick, Dallas Clark, was not taken until 24. At the top of the 06 class, Vernon Davis(6) is a freak compared with Clark.

The same with Pope this year. It happens, and to say the TE was not a featured position in 2003 is just wrong. TE's are critical difference makers each and every year-- I can't even begin to name all the special players over the years.

Yeah i know there have been special players but the position itself was not considered a feature position again until Gates blew up last year. I remember when shockey came out the debate was is a TE worth a high first round pick also gonzalez was not picked until the teens when he was drafted if a TE of his and shockey's ability came out now they would be top 5 without hesitation.

Witten wasn't thought of as an amazing athlete coming out of college...

They tested out almost the same as far as size and speed. Witten ran a 4.72-4.75 at the Tennessee Pro Day and Fasano ran a 4.75 at the Combine. Witten did better in strength numbers and Fasano testied out better in change of direction drills (Fasano had the best 3 cone drill time out of all the TE's in this class, including Vernon Davis).

Both share the same strengths ... great hands, great instincts, natural feel for getting open, good routes, toughness.

Actually the buzz during the season was how much of an athlete Witten was since he was a converted DE, the being stiff part was something I had not heared but I could see where that could be a knock, he did look a bit stiff in college.

lets get real guys, witten is one of the top 4 or 5 best TEs in the league, you cant expect fasano to be that good, hell be good, but not as good as witten, id say hell be at the same lever as the guy the eagles have, smith i think is his name from rutgers?

I agree, but I would go a step further and say Witten is one of the top 3 with Gonzo and Gates. That is why I have been saying that this question is stupid...

Hes kind of the exact opposite player of Smith though. Smith is almost a WR, Fasano is 100 % TE.

I think if Fasano turned out as good as LJ Smith wed have a flat out scary offense

LJ isn't very good, if he's not battling injuries, the Eagles are still waiting on him

I disagree. Has above average hands, and his athleticism is about as good as you can hope for from a TE not names Gates

it's all potential

61 for 682 and 3 td's

Witt had 66 for 757 and 6

Now, that was in Wittens toughers year with the tackle situation, but still

I've heard that LJ has been driving the Eagles nuts with his inconsistency

I also forgot a rookie free agent named Antonio Gates from '03 class.

Of course counting him would certainly change things! What a monster; hard to believe he was not drafted.

I was watchin' the NFL network a couple of weeks ago when Shockey was on there and they asked him what was his top 5 TE and he noticeably left Witten off the list...your thoughts on that?

Shockey is a moron, and a jealous moron at that, because Witten is better than he is...

He knows it so why would he tell people that the Best TE in the NFC East plays for the Dallas Cowboys... Shockey wouldn't do that. His ego wouldn't allow it...

I was just thinkin',Fasano was drafted higher then Witten so what are the chances he would/could be better?

If he is better then Witten this could be one hell of a duo....also what area's do you think he might be better then Witten in?

have fun....

I guess I have to stick wit my man Witten AKA Baby Novacek:lmao2:

Fasano doesn't have the huge upside that Witten had coming out. Fasano is far more polished than Witten coming out.
Fasano will block really well for you and catch 1 or 2 passes a game.

I know you like Witten, but let's see what happens. I hope Fasano can do better than that in games where Witten is being limited in receptions. If he can't, we wasted a pick that high.
