Will not having a legit pass rusher hurt us down the stretch?

I've heard a lot of good things about this DeMarcus Lawerence kid... a close friend of mine is a Boise State fan... he said the kid is a beast...

Interestingly I've heard the opposite. I have a buddy who went to U of New Mexico and followed the Mountain West conference closely and watched a lot of Boise State games and said that basically Lawrence tore it up in a couple of blowouts against the dregs of the conference and didn't do much against the better programs.

I am REALLY interested to finally see how he looks.

Absolutely will hurt us when you have to play better teams in Dec and playoffs.

It's already hurt us in the last game in the REDZONE where Manning had time to survey and convert long 3rd and goal + 4th and goals.

REDZONE is where we really could use a pass rusher. Put pressure while dropping 7-8 in coverage in a short field.

Dallas wouldn't be 6-1 without QB Pressure.

Down the stretch Demarcus Lawrence, Anthony Spencer and Henry Melton could show well.

I think this "no legit pass rush" is nonsense. More sacks would be nice but the pressure on the QBs has been good and that's all you need. Sacks are awesome but they aren't an absolute necessity to effectively defense an opponents passing game.

Depends, some Qbs absolutely start to fold or fold when they are consistently sacked. Eli and Brady come to mind. We didn't beat the Giants because Eli played bad, we beat them because we were the better team. If Eli was worried, he would have helped our team with his patented INTs
when he's scared.

Eli didn't have a great game. I'd like to think our pass rush had something to do with it. It's his brother I worry about.

He wasn't terrible either. Maranelli appearantly thought he could have been forced to play worse.

Manning had a 117 rating (3 TDs, 0 INTs) for the game. He didn't light the world on fire, however, the didn't lose the game due to Manning.

The week before the Eagles sacked him 8 times and he didn't throw for a single TD.

Maranelli is a perfectionist who will never be satisfied. (which by the way, I think is a good thing) You can't stop everyone, but if you keep them contained to limited success, it's often all you need to do... that's what our guys have been doing.

I saw him outplay the tackle from Nevada and beat some other good competition.

So the Eagles pass rush is better than ours... we already know this. We have strengths too that the Eagles do not have.

Fuzzy:

I really have no idea. A quick glance at his 2013 season has Lawrence getting 5 1/2 of his 10 1/2 sacks against 4-8 Nevada and 5-7 Wyoming.

I have no idea what level of talent level of the tackles on those teams -- maybe they were even pro prospects?

It really doesn't matter at this point -- the Cowboys saw enough to move up and take him in the 2nd round and now I can't wait to see what he looks like.

Sorry the point wasn't about the Eagles so much as I thought Manning played pretty decently last week against Dallas.

Exactly my point. And look back to last season, he stunk.

Joel Bitonio. Good player for Nevada. Browns 2nd round pick this year and I believe he called Lawrence the best he's faced in his career.

He's legit. He's a natural pass rusher. People just have to be patient and realistic about what a rookie can do missing almost all of training camp and the entire preseason.

So the "W" is no longer good enough? Eli was limited to a losing performance. He is capable of playing much better but our guys didn't let that happen.
