Williams, Ryan

I don't see it. He had one standout run in which he trucked a safety. Other than that, he hasn't really done much. He average 3.6 yards per carry in limited action in the first game and his other four rushes against Baltimore netted 9 yards, I believe (granted one was a 3-yard touchdown run).

I can't be won over so easily. Right now, Randle is outplaying him.

It was a FANTASTIC run and the TD run was a great piece of running... the jump cut, shift back and burst into the endzone... great little run. He looked good against SD too... And I hate to nit pick but 3.6 ypc is good.

In 2013 only 17 RB's had a higher ypc (min 200 carries for the season) and he averaged 6.5 vs the Ravens... that give him a 5.05 over two games (only 3 had even or higher all of last year)

Put me in the crowd that doesn't get the infatuation with Dunbar. He really hasn't shown much. He had some big plays last season, but then had some terrible plays where he looked utterly lost. He has had fumbles issues and injury issues. Seriously, I don't get it. It has to be projection. I think people see his size/quickness and think of Sproles but Dunbar isn't nearly as talented in any form as Sproles.

I don't think Murray or Dunbar make it through the season. If they let Williams walk they will sorely regret it.

Preseason game number 1. There were 3 more to play. Get over it.

There's nothing to get over... we where "asking" ourselves why he's safe and guaranteed a spot on the roster... that's all... I think he should be out there proving himself... like almost every player is. That's all...

How about you get over this thread... and move a long..

Maybe I missed something, but I haven't seen anything special from him outside of that one run. The TD run wasn't bad, though. Other than that, he has gotten caught up in the wash when the hole isn't there for him. He runs into the line then doesn't show the power or bounce-off to escape. I expected to see that from him, but I haven't.

He lowers his pads and goes boom on a safety and it thrills people, I get that. But he needs to be making these second- and third-stringers look bad on a consistent basis, and he's not. Randle has actually shown more ability to bounce plays and pick up yardage this preseason (and I say that as someone who felt Randle would get outclassed by Williams).

Only 5 RB's averaged less than 3.6 ypc last year using the same criteria (min 200 carries). And I gave him the benefit of the doubt on the tie. 18th out of 23 would not be what I call "good".

Don't get my wrong I'm pulling for the guy but to state that 3.6 is good and cherry pick a stat (that doesn't really show what you are trying to say) in an effort to prove it isn't doing anyone any good.

I think this reason is why we will carry 4 RBs this year, special teams contributors or otherwise.

If Murray decides to leave for bigger money elsewhere, we'll have three solid guys for camp.

Sir, would you give serious thought to going ahead and using Demarcus Murray for trade value in acquiring a legitimate and youthful defensive end at this point?

Hos raised this question, and this would be on the strength of a trio of running backs: Randle, Dunbar, and Williams. An additional pick could be used next draft...in the 3rd ro 4th round area. This would greatly change cap requirements to retain a strong running back group.

Thoughts?

Ohhhh....that would be a hard decision to make! I guess it would depend on who was the trading partner and who the player would be?

I can't imagine getting a rush end good enough to make a real impact in that trade. Rush ends are rare commodities, whereas RBs are not.

Williams, with his low pad level style, looks to me to be the best short yardage and goal line RB....that's a valuable role, IMO. I won't be surprised to see us keep 4 RBs, cutting Clutts and leaving the big boy on the practice squad. Through two games, we've shown no need or desire to use the FB.

They probably held him out because he has been killing it in camp since day 1? Nothing but glowing reports on the guy. Are you not paying attention?

Never have heard this much crying over holding out a guy you expect to be a key contributor...at the most injury prone position....for the 1st preseason game.

A team such as the Giants might have a listening ear. Think Tampa or Jacksonville are settled?

Then one only needs to add good enough to get 6 sacks in rotation. Accumulative numbers and not a pair of top producers is the goal then.

But, I would never trade a good player to an enemy in the NFC-E. I like to watch them crumble, rather than help them.

He's working on it according to the guys on talkin' cowboys.

Question #3 (and the same question for Zach Minter)---

Can he do it against the opposition's 1s and 2s? So far, even though both he and Minter have been outstanding, they've been performing against future members of "Grocery Baggers Local #411". I'm not doubting them, mind you. You just can't be sure of who they are until they play against top-level competition.

It was good under the circumstances. He got what was there. That was the 3rd string line he was behind. A bunch of guys other than Parnell that you wouldn't recognize the names.

"Killing it" in training camp, against our defense doesn't really impress me nor sell me on anything about Lance Dunbar. He's a role player who shouldn't be guaranteed a roster spot.

There's Demarco Murray and then there's the rest. He's definitely not on Murray's level.

He wasn't guaranteed a roster spot. He has earned one through a great training camp.

Like what do you guys want? He has had a tremendous camp and is a unique weapon on our team. Nobody is remotely like him on the roster. So they sat him in one of the two truly meaningless preseason games. You guys are silly.

Really? I usually get the perspective of the 'show me, don't tell me' fans for players, but Dunbar's a guy I think has flashed an awful lot in his time on the filed here. I do get the fumble issues (I'd never play a fumbler, no matter how elusive he is), and the injury issues, obviously. But when the guy has the ball in his hands in the open field, he's a really good player. I'm surprised not everybody feels that way about him, because it's pretty apparent from where I'm sitting.

I went to Virginia. So obviously I followed him as a key player at our rival. I want him to make the squad. I think he is more talented than Murray.

I agree because I don't think Murray is all that special. Even if Murray is better Williams is light years better than Randall.

We are comparing him to top tier work load backs though... You have to remember, he's going for a back up role and it was in ONE game... a preseason game. If you average his preseason as a whole (2 Games, LOL) its over 5 ypc.
