I wish Rossi would've chose the USA over Italy.

He would've made us so much better.

Tangent, but, realistically, you could see almost an entirely different 11 in 2018 than in 14.

its way early but rimando, fabian johnson, john brooks, yedlin, green, iceman all look like 2018 stalwarts.
of course players holding steady for 4 years is not guaranteed tho.
and hopefully there will be some new faces that explode upon the scene with US team affiliation.
maybe emo hyndman or junior flores will meet expectations.
there's also a chelsea (u18) man who could choose the US over England, kyle scott

with the exception of bradley and fabian johnson i have to agree. We have lots of young players overseas on some top clubs coming through the ranks. Junior Flores at Dortmund and Zelaham At Arsenal are particular top talents.

did Gedion get US citizenship? recall rumors of that sort but never saw for sure.
he is a talent that would be nice to land.
even if he is a gunner for now. ;p

He flew to the USA last month and applied for citizen ship . He had to do it before a certain date in order to be eligible . So it's a telling sign according to goal.com

ouch... didnt realize he was that old. guess it will be Guzan in 4 years then.
Guzan will be 33, I think, next time the Cup rolls around. If there isn't a young guy, wouldn't surprise me at all to still see Howard in net the more I think of it. GiGi Buffon is 36..Howard would be like 39 in 2018.

Maybe Bill Hamid or Sean Johnson - who would both be around 28 then - can make the jump?

i think 33 for a GK is pretty prime.
39 is ... tough but Howard is a stud for sure.
buffon is no longer at this peak.

not sure about about the next gen goalies. hopefully they make their way to europe to play.

Yeah this is good. We're not developing as much pure American talent as we should.

You would think with all of the athletes and facilities we have that we would stumble onto more quality players just by accident.

This is random but I like that Yedlin kid. I think he is going to be an outstanding right back for the US in the future.

Like our version of Danni Alves.

It would surprise me if Howard was in goal in 2018. That would be a bad sign for the U.S.. I think he is past his prime right now and that doesn't mean he is bad. He still plays at a high level, but he was even better 4 years ago. I doubt he will be better 4 years from now. This will be the last WC for him, Gigi Buffon, Julio Cesar and Iker Casillas in goal for their respective countries. That is quite a few good keepers and a couple of them are highly decorated.

Yea, that makes sense, I'm kind of just spitballing here, but with no obvious replacement who is much younger, the answer isn't plainly evident.

The US will always be behind other countries in terms of getting top athletes to play soccer becuase, quite simply, there are more sports to compete with.

Other countries don't have nearly as strong a presence from baseball and basketball while football is virtually nonexistent around the world. That will always be an issue for US soccer.

It's hard for me to get up for American soccer when i know nothing about 99% of the guys on the team.

It's a good thing usa isn't good bc i dont have to worry about them playing a key match vs a squad that i do like... i dont have any reason to support any country over the us other tag the fact that i know their team much more and like their players more...

Bad position to be in for me. ... i cant root for the usa just because

As we get closer I still have win, draw, draw and advance.
Not sure how much of that is wishful thinking but Ronaldo's injury and the order of games makes it possible, imho.

Beat Ghana, Draw with Portugal in a snoozefest, Draw with the Germans who have already claimed top of group with 6 points coming in.

Ger: 7
US: 5
Por: 4
Gha: 0

With Cristiano Ronaldo's injury lingering I see this as a huge opportunity for USA . My predictions for the yanks are as follows :

Vs Ghana Win
Vs Portugal Draw
Vs Germany loss

Table : Germany 9
USA 4
Portugal 4
Ghana 0

I think we get through on goal difference !

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain injury concern for England boss Roy Hodgson

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will have a scan on Thursday to determine if the Arsenal midfielder will be fit for the forthcoming World Cup finals.

Oxlade-Chamberlain suffered a lower leg injury during England's friendly against Ecuador in Miami, putting his tournament participation in doubt

Love Yedlin, needs a better cross and foot at times but he makes up for so much with his speed and his fight. Also I am a Sounders Fan and have seen this kid play since he was at club soccer level and then Sounders academy team
