Worse than 1989

The big difference for me is I have ZERO confidence that these two can turn this around.

In fact if they somehow decide to at least try in free agency, things will probably get much worse before they get better.

Whatever it takes for them to hire a qualified person to run things is what we all ought to want.

For now I can promise you that this season isn’t changing the thought process. Gonna be a while.

My point was after drafting high, they won some championships. If they can get into the top 3, they can start turning it around.
That takes years and a Herschel trade. Typically the same group of teams draft high every year.

And that is the theme of this season hopelessness. I see nothing positive now or in the future, unless Jerry surprises us all with a huge move in the off-season in the way of a coach and general manager.
Jerry would use the old bait-and-switch approach with the fan base. He would name Stephen the new GM and keep himself as the President.

That's why I don't think this job will be appealing for a new HC compared to other teams where they can get a real fresh start on a rebuild. If I'm looking for a HC job, there will be better options.

Well, I’m 70. The worst team we ever had was the strike season. But this is close.
Which strike season. Cuz in the 1982 season cowboys played the skins in the nfc title game. I would say that was a good team. Should have won it that year

They were getting killed when fully healthy. This is not a good football team. It runs much deeper than injuries.
LOL, I said it isn't a good football team, but if you don't think injuries are a factor you aren't looking at the whole picture. We were 2-2 and had barely lost to the Ravens when Parsons, Kneeland, and Lawrence went down....we were already without Sam Williams. We lost Cooks that same game. We haven't had Bland all year, Lewis has missed time. And of course, we now are without Dak the last two games and the OL has underperformed greatly, especially Steele and Martin.

We clearly don't have receivers that can separate, and apparently we can't devise plays that scheme people open. Same old story in Dallas. How often do we see receivers from other teams running wide open all the time?

We only have one pass rusher that can get any pressure so it is easy to take him out of the game, and he also runs himself out of plays. And Jones will pay him a gazillion dollars.

We can start being competitive again but we're never winning any titles until Jerry's gone. Jerry will never hire a strong willed coach like Jimmy again. And we need one to take that next step.

The record was worse and that was an awful team but this team is getting its doors blown off practically every week. That wasn’t happening with the 89 team. The 2024 team has to be one of the all time worse home teams in league history. We’re being destroyed at home.
You're mistaken. There were some close games, but 3 wins is better than one.
And Dallas got shut out 3 times in 89. The majority of the games weren't close.

Jimmy happened. Before Jerry got butthurt for credit.

Oh I see where he's going, and it's completely irrelevant, unless Jerry is ready to loosen his grip and let a coach or gm have actual control of his roster.

Over and under on Jerry is 2 years.

That's longer than I hope to wait, but whats another couple seasons. We would probably get those early picks for that time period. Then hopefully re-emerge with new leadership.

Could hit the under and I do think we will draft high and will use free agency this time.

The blue print is there to turn this thing around. Trade away anything of value. Cut away the fat. Eat the dead money. Draft Sanders. Hire Sanders. Let Sanders cook for a few years. If things work out go all in and take your shot. Lather rinse repeat.

I’m not saying this team is worse than the 89 team but we have lost by 20+ points four times compared to two with the 89 team. This team has scored over 30 points once and so did the 89 team. Again, I’m not saying the 2024 team is worse but “so far” this is one of the worst Cowboys teams that I’ve seen and my fandom dates back to the 72 season. Hard to believe we were 3-2 at one point.

Yes I said it. I’m am 51 and have been a fan since I can remember. This is the worst Dallas team of my lifetime. They are a joke.
My 40 something year old son asked me the same question, if this was the worst team since I've been a very long, long, long fan and my response to him was, " I'm not sure this is the worst team, if not it's a close second ". I would watch Coach Landry on the sidelines when teams weren't that good, but I never felt it couldn't be turned around, but after watching this version of the Cowboys, my heart is telling me to get ready for some very hard times because the players that have been accumulated on this team by JERRY JONES are players who would have a hard time sticking in the NFL if they played this way on other NFL teams. Both the offense and defense appear to be clueless as to what their jobs are on the field of play.

Real dark times and they could get darker next season if we sit around during free agency again. There’s also no assurances Dak returns to form. We could be looking at some real lean years ahead.

I agree, The arrow is pointing down, we have paid a mediocre QB, not his fault. All Jerry's fault, he is a certified idiot. BTW I was against paying Dak the first time in 2020.
I have been saying for 10 years, Jerry does not care about winning a SB. It's not even on his top 10 list to do. He just cares about the business end.
Did you all see his interview during the Tyson fight? He was just pumping NFL on Netflix and how he says that becoming a bigger thing going forward. He cares about top end revenue streams and getting even more wealthy through is family office.
Winning a SB is not required, he just wants the team to be relevant.

Honestly brother, I kind of suspect that as a strong possibility. This season is breaking Jerry. He's either going to recognize he needs to tweak his approach or burn it down. It may be what snaps him out of his weak free agency participation. As much as I'd like a fresh young mind at coach I'd be equally stoked if we got Belichek, mainly because I don't believe he'd let Jerry run all over him. This would make a huge difference in culture imo.
