I wouldn't overthink the cap issue. The Patriots cut beloved players all the time, but no one complains about that. It's just business...

Why does everyone keep saying LA is a devastating run blocker...

He whiffs all the time if we don't run up the middle

He is a guard -- His pass blocking is much better because he just has to stand there and form a wall -- He can do that.

He has to move to run block -- He can't do that

"Why would that keep players from coming here? Every other team does the same thing it is called cap management. If there was no cap this would not be as big of an issue but the fact there is one and it poses a real dilemma between loyalty and what is best for the team. I would have thought after finally getting out of salary cap hell a couple of years ago that fans would not want to see a return to the same old crud of overpaying players who are well beyond their prime."

name one 1 other sure fire hall of famer that got cut from his team after 12 great seasons. you can only name 1 and that is emmitt smith. its called loyalty and respect. and yes it would have an affect on players coming here, think about it. if 2 companies are offering you a job for the same amount of $ but one has a history of firing loyal workers which one are you going to choose?

"(10 years down the road) Hey guys, I know LA is only in his mid 40s, uses a Hov-around to get from the sideline to the huddle and carries a protable oxygen tank, but he's THE franchise now. Let's keep him. It might take a while for him to break huddle, but man what a player. So what if we're paying him $33.6666 million this season. We can't cut Larry."

^^

why are you acting like the guy is horrible? hes not. hes still a good NFL gaurd, not great like he once was, but still good. plus like i said name me one player thats better than him that we have a chance at getting right now. you either draft a guy or sign a young guy let them develope a year or 2 at most. then Larry will be ready to retire. i dont want him playing untills hes 40, but the guy still has something left. remember last year Flozell was out too so Larry had to make up for a lot of slack on the left side.

Let see Montana ended his career in KC, Jerry Rice in Oakland and yes I could add more to the list. Bottom line I am a fan of the Dallas Cowboys Franchise I have watched this team from 1965 to the present, players come and go that is a fact of life to me the most important thing is this franchise and if it means releasing Allen is the best thing for the franchise then I would expect them to do just that. Players like Aikman I enjoyed watching and was damn glad he was on our team but when everything was said and done Troy moved on. Lastly if you think Allen is doing a great job then that is clearly your opinion and not shared by myself

plus like i said name me one player thats better than him that we have a chance at getting right now.

Steve Hutchinson (hasn't been franchised yet), Tutan Reyes, Stephen Neal, LeCharles Bentley (if he wants out of N.O. that bad, he'll stay at guard if that's where his new team wants him).

You make it sound like LA is 25 years old and there is no one out there to replace him. There is. The thing that is hanging you up is he has made 12 pro bowls during his career. I would say that last 2 or 3 were because of what he has done in the past.

It is unbelievable that you can't see the Cowboys letting him go for business reasons. That's a lot of money to give a play that has nothing but downside. Would you invest $8.5 million in a beat up Chevy Nova? Didn't think so. Yeah you could put gas in it and get it from point A to point B, but is it worth that kind of money when you can go out and buy a new car?
