I agree with BP to a degree. Was Owens a problem? At times he was. Was he a distraction? At times he was.

But -

BP never allowed it to get to a point where it over-shadowed the team.

That would be the problem I think many of us are saying didn't happen. Which in the end never happened.

You are right, it will always be something with TO if the media continues to call him out, ridicule and berate him for things like, .. pulling a hamstring, .. breaking a bone in his hand, .. getting a penalty, .. tearing a tendon in his finger, .. wearing a bike shirt, .. dropping a pass, on and on.

Those things are nothing, they happen on every team.

Whatever happened in SF or Philthy did not happen here, that is a good thing...YET

There...fixed it for you.

And for the record some of things have happened here that happened there.

Sleeping in meetings, missing or being late for meetings.
Questioning the coaching in the media.

Obviously he had some problems. Every player does. Every person on earth does. No one is perfect.

Was he a debilitating problem? Of course, not. Did his addition to the team outweight any negative he brought? By a long shot.

I really can't see how anyone could suggest otherwise, unless they have some predisposed feelings towards the character, which obviously is easy to have.

I don't think it was just Owens questioning the coaching in the media. As a matter of fact. I think the defense was put on record a few times saying that they were not being put into position to be more agressive.

Which they were not.

Terry Glenn/Witten I think even recall saying a time or 2 that they felt the O was not being allowed to make bigger plays. Which many times was true. The conservative play calling on both sides of the ball was atrocious to say the least.

I think anyone who thinks TO wasn't a distraction this past season is kidding themselves. And Parcells "handled" it well? Storming out of a press conference because he won't be "interegated" is hardly handling it well.

All in all, TO's good outweighed his bad,IMO, but a lightening rod like him has to be very productive to be worth it. I wonder if he can come up with a dozen TDs this coming season to be worth all the drops and drama.

Some of you boys are going to have a loooooong off-season and an even looooooooooooonger season because Owens will be one of our players next season.

I recall him leaving a meeting once or twice because reporters refused to hear what he was telling them. Can't blame the guy. Just a waste of time if the media chose not to actually come for other questions than to just stir the pot.

He would not talk about TO and whatever situation was occuring then. BP would not feed anything to the cockerspaniels because he didnt want it misinterpreted into something entirely different and add fuel to whatever pretend fire the media had going.

Most things regarding Owens - died down pretty quickly with this approach.

That was anger at the media not at Owens that caused him to storm out of a press conf.

He told them he didn't know anything and would let them know when he did and they kept on asking.

He wasn't mad at Owens, he was mad at the repetative stupid stupid questions.

Odd some folks didn't understand why he was actually leaving the PC. It was pretty black and white to me.

Agreed. I don't see how getting frustrated by the idiots in the media qualifies as Parcells not handling Owens.

Distraction to who ??

ESPN ?
Media ?
You ?

Owens never turned out to be the "devil" that some wanted him to be, no matter how bad they tried to spin it that way.

Parcells has said as much, several players have said as much, we were 8-4 at one time which says as much, and Jones says he will be back which says it all.

You obviously have it wrong.

Coach Parcells was lying when he said that the whole situation wasn't nearly as bad as painted in the media.;)

I don't think you understand the concept of distraction. When the media is interviewing our players and asking them about TO psyche because it looked he tried to kill himself the night before, that is a distraction!
