Would you be happy with a Super Bowl loss?

Happy with a Super Bowl loss? Is this a serious question? I remember living through Super Bowl losses and I can guarantee you one thing - you NEVER get over losing the big game. Even after all these years it is still very painful to think about those games.

This (x) infinity.

I lived thru a lot of those. There were like 7 or 8. I'll take a Super Bowl loss.

I agree never happy with a loss but I do take pride in the fact Dallas has been to 8 SB and played in some of the best SB games played even ones we have lost they went down as some of the greatest games played. Being apart of that history in no way upsets me, of course I would have rather won that is a no brainer but there is no shame in being part of some great games.

As for this current team going to the SB and winning it would surpass my wildest expectations and frankly if this team were to make it to the NFC Championship game and come up short I would still consider this a successful season and something that can be built on.

I agree, and I believe we would have came back and beat SF, if the arm bar PI would have been called on Deion against Irvin.
Worst call, or non call ever in the history of the NFL.

I really feel like there is an alternate universe and we won 4 straight there. I am reaching out to Fauxlivia now to see if that is in fact the case. Lol

Of course making it would be awesome. Losing it would be awful.

How would you feel about this?

Would you consider the season a success?
Of course, we all want a SB win.
I want to win the lottery too.

The season would be a borderline unimaginable success if we made it to the Super Bowl. Only borderline because of the loss, but preposterously good. imo
Far, FAR beyond my pre-season expectations.

So you would rather be Jacksonville than Denver................WOW

I would rather not be heartbroken to get to a super bowl and lose.I take losses harder than most people.
I would rather know I have no shot at sleeping with Angelina Jolie than to be laying naked with her than to be in that situation and then not being able to have sex with her.

Might be a bad analogy but you get the point.

No, rather lose the NFC championship game than a Super Bowl. I still hurt from The Catch/The Fumble, but can get over that. Both Pittsburgh losses are much more painful and also think we got jobbed by the refs against the Colts.

The NFC loss is a flesh wound compared to the heart removal of a Super Bowl loss.

The one that still haunts me is the NFC Championship loss to the 49'ers.

That one didn't just cost us a Super Bowl Championship (where I feel we would have certainly crushed an overmatched Chargers team), but a shot at all-time epic greatness.

If they win that game and the following Super Bowl, they're the only team do three-peat. If they win the next one that they did? Four consecutive championships establishing them as the greatest dynasty in NFL history, bar none.

Wow, I can't imagine feeling this way. So here are my questions:

Which is better, SB loss or NFCCG loss? I say SB loss and it's not close. I hate that the Steelers matched our 8 SB appearances and want that record back. You (and several others) have said NFCCG loss is better.
Which is better, SB loss or early-round playoff loss?
Which is better, SB loss or not making the playoffs?

Where's the break-even point?

I suffered mightily through both losses to Pittsburgh. Seeing a picture of Swann or Stallworth still makes me break out in hives. So yeah, I've been through it. And I'd still far rather see my team in the SB than not see my team in the SB, no matter how it turns out.

I've experienced all 5 of the Cowboys SB wins and 2 of their SB losses to Pittsburgh and for me personally I would rather the Cowboys lose prior to reaching the SB than to lose the SB. The farther your team goes in the postseason the more it hurts when they lose at least for me. No losses the Cowboys have had pained me more than watching them lose the SB. The 81 title game loss to SF was very close but nothing was an agonizing as those 2 SB losses to Pittsburgh.

I know it's an accomplishment to reach the SB but it's a game that goes into a time capsule and if you lose you're tormented through the years by the highlights that are very difficult to watch because of the bad memories they bring back. I still have a tough time watching SB highlights of the losses to Pittsburgh.

I will say this if I was a fan of a team that's never been to a SB like Detroit or Cleveland that would be the only time I would rather get there even if it meant a loss. The worst feeling for an NFL fan has to be never experiencing the thrill of seeing their team reach the ultimate game.

To me all loses are the same in the play-offs but SB losses. Which team is more admired? Which team is more ridiculed? Buffalo or the New York Football Giants?

Buffalo was a team that went four straight times. That is something remarkable. But they lost four straight times and will forever be the butt of the SB joke.

They Giants are 4-1 in the SB. Other than this site who will argue with any NFC East accomplishment that is not Dallas, that record is respectable.

Think the Bills fans would switch places with the Giants?

Sure but as you said going 4 years in a row is a pretty big feat in and of itself. I would rather go to the dance than be standing outside watching. Losing be it playoffs of SB sucks but the only way to even have a chance to win the SB is by being in the SB

To me it depends on how you lose in the SB. If you're just flat out beaten by a better team in all phases (live Denver was with Seattle last year) then yeah I'd take the SB loss and wouldn't agonize too much over it. Sometimes you just have to sit back and say "too good".

If it was close game though and hinged on 1 or 2 plays then no I would rather not make it at all than lose like that. Losing the SB like how the Pats lost to the Giants in both SBs (where Eli starts pulling out magic plays out of his a**) would drive me nuts for years.
