Would you consider a Zack Martin for Chris Jones trade?

YES. in a heartbeat. Chris jones would put this defensive line over the top. heck I would give up a first round pick for Jones. give them Gallimore and 1st. get jones and put him next to Mazi. Parsons and Lawrence at DEs, jones and Mazi in the middle. Osa and Hankins rotating. now you got the beginings of a dominant DL.

but KC has two good guards, so this will never happen.
You'd have to give up picks for them to take Galley.

No. Our O-line is already lacking depth. Steele coming back from Injury, Tyrone hurt every year, and now we are trading our best linemen? Cant do it.

Why would you downgrade a more questionable offensive unit to upgrade the defensive unit which is already a strength?
Because a pass rushing DLineman like Chris Jones is way more impactfull to a game than a GUARD. That's why the Cowboys would do it.

It's also why the Chiefs would laugh in Jurruh's plastic surgery deformed face!

Because Jones would make the defensive unit elite, which could help it carry that offensive unit. This defense is still missing a dominant 3-tech. Jones is that. He had 15.5 sacks last season.

I'm not saying I would do the trade, but that is why it is worth considering. Imagine how much more effective Parsons and Lawrence could be if offense's had to deal with Jones in the middle of the defense.

I'm all for trading for him and would gladly give up my first-round pick next year and more. I just don't want to give up Martin.

"
  • both are currently holding out
  • both players' teams are refusing to meet their demands
  • both players are at the backend of their careers but still playing at a high level
  • both players are All-Pros
  • both players would have an immediate impact
  • both players could play one year with the new team and walk or get their extension "

Are they both the same age ? ... and it's much harder to find a top pass rushing DT, ..than it is a top OG.
and i dunno how the heck a DT guy getting an astounding 15 1/2 sacks and only age 29 is at back end half of his career... ?

Jones for Martin?

We have reached the summit of silliness. Have ascended beyond 29,000 feet and ran out of oxygen an hour ago. Zombie posting has commenced.

  • Hey...Let's talk a trade that is contractually impossible, due to financials. (End of discussion for thinking people)
  • How about we... talk a trade that castrates our offense and makes our defense 3% better?
  • Why not exchange one hold out for another hold out? Win-Win, Lose-Lose...who's keeping score?
Sôô Stüüüpid. Can someone remind me why I'm active on this forum?
Three possible answers:

1. You are addicted to "likes".
2. You enjoy watching a good train wreck.
3. You love the team and want to share thoughts and ideas with others who also love the team.

Hopefully, it is that last one, but to each his own.

A dominant game wrecking DT like Jones is much harder to find than a great Guard. They would never make that trade.

First, to be clear, from my perspective, it would be a trade WITHOUT either player getting new money. They would change teams under their current contract and work with their new team for an extension ( each team could get one year and let the player the walk) I know it's probably not doable but interestingly, there are a lot of parallels between both players
  • both are currently holding out
  • both players' teams are refusing to meet their demands

Just nitpicking here, but Martin has two years left on his contract.

Think of it as a thought experiment. Like when someone asks you which super model you would rather date. It has zero chance of happening, yet you answer anyway.

That suspension was 6 years ago, Not the same team or coaches.

Nevertheless, while I would love the Cowboys to have Chris Jones, we have sunk resources into the DT position the last couple of years, and the defense is likely to be very strong even without Jones. On the other hand, we don't have great depth at OG, and there are more questions on the offense as a whole.

Martin is probably the more important player for the team
You would be right on who is more important. The end result of a trade like this would be to no longer have Martin, and Jones for one year only. Because the Cowboys can't pay Jones his market value of 32M per year. Parsons will cost more than that.

While I am a fan of making a trade that helps the team, I would not be a fan of this proposed trade; I think there is a greater need on the OL than the DL…I don’t know that it makes sense for a trade that weakens a position group more than it strengthens another.

Because most DTs are done between 31-35. Most fall off a cliff.

The chiefs wouldn’t do this trade. Chris Jones is the heart of their defense which is not great to begin with. With no Chris Jones the chiefs‘ defense is average at best.

And while Chris Jones is a great player in any uniform, the mark of a good trade is how well it helps both teams. This proposed trade would not help either team that much.

Let’s take the fan glasses off for a minute. If we are being objective, the Cowboys OL without Zack Martin is not great. We can pretend all day long “we will be fine” at RG with any combo of Josh Ball, Matt Farniok, Chuma Erdoga or even TJ Bass. None of those guys are a great long term option.

So Jerry can talk tough all day long but again- just being honest here- Zack Martin has the leverage. All holdouts have a “public” stance and a “private” stance. I can almost guarantee Jerry is privately trying to negotiate a way to get ZM by game one. I’m predicting it will happen. Because the Cowboys need Martin if they are serious about contending.

I would say that #2 and #3 are very very closely related…….

The Cowboys need Martin more than Martin needs the Cowboys.
The Cowboys have Martin, thats the thing..Martin's only option is to sit out and lose money and years and he isnt a spring chicken anymore, they will come to a restructure deal as neither has the time to play chicken in this deal.
