Even if we passed on Quinn, I'd still like to bring in Barr for a look.

I think Barr can help this team. We really dont have anyone as a LB besides LVE. I like Parsons but right now he is not it in the middle.

I surely would not, as long as he's been accustomed to being paid so generously. Jerry and Stephen aren't too likely to fancy that idea, imho. Aside from that, Robert Quinn doesn't play the run nearly as well as he should. I'd be highly disappointed if he was welcomed into the fold. He's 32, if that's also not quite enough to prevent his arrival. I think we'll do well enough with what we have in house.

Nah, ....we have some guys who will battle for PT at that spot, including Fowler and Williams. What i would love to get is a vet LB who can be a run stuffer. If we leak like a sieve up the middle....we will be in deep doodoo once again.

Quinn is a very good pass rusher for sure. And I don’t know what I’m talking about all too often, lol.

- We still already had Gregory, who the organization was gonna back, support and further invest in. Thought to be a similar impact edge rusher.
- We were not gonna go all out and get into bidding war with other NFL teams for Quinn's services.
- Quinn was seen as a one dimensional player - great speed rusher who struggles vs run.
- We did receive a draft compensatory pick for Quinn's departure.

-The issue is not cap, the Rams are proving that. If Cowboys wanted to keep Quinn, they could've manipulated the NFL's cap to re-sign Quinn.
As Always, it's a matter of who they really are committed to keep as must have core players, ..and who they could care less about moving on in FA. (ala Quinn, Byron Jones, etc)

Going off subject here, but you mentioned Byron Jones.

How in the world does an NFL starting DB miss only 5 games in a 7 year career and come up with more forced fumbles than INT's? That blows my mind.

109 games, 103 starts for a guy that plays in the secondary for NFL teams, who was a Pro Bowler one season mind you, and he has a total of 4 INT's? That is crazy.

No. We already have similar type players in Dante Fowler and Dorance Armstrong. Besides, Sam Williams needs lots of playing time to develop.

If Dan Quinn had known that they would draft Sam Williams and sign Fowler, I don't think he would have wanted to re-sign Gregory.

Conspiracy Theory:
- I don't think Stephen Jones wanted to re-sign Gregory.
- SJ knew that Gregory was a favorite of Jerry; therefore, SJ intentionally irritated Gregory and his agent.
- That made it appear to Jerry that Gregory made the decision to leave.

Its a great theory X, and entertaining and made me smile, but Gregory chose Denver over Dallas for a very personal reason.
Denver is called the mile high city for more than just being at 5280 feet above sea level for a reason..
Gregory covets euphoria and will be very interesting watching what is left of his career in Denver.
The Broncos are and have been a respected FO and fairly sound FA moves, but my conspiracy theory is that Gregory will be a name that fades quickly, much like all the smoke in Denver.

Byron Jones actually was also an All Pro that same year - ironically the same year that ex DB coach Kris Richard converted him to full time CB. By far his natural position.

Byron simply doesn't have ball hawk skills, he never plays for the INT, but more so the knocked down, batted down pass.

Super clear huge difference between Byron vs Trevor Diggs in that sense.
Diggs is the reason why the Cowboys were determined to make the move towards ball hawk playmakers instead of batted down DBs, ..
Byron Jones and Orlando Scandrick were simply bat-down DBs with little to zero ball hawk skills.

Ironically the Dolphins signed Byron Jones to a contract that made him the highest paid CB in NFL history, as Cowboys allowed him to walk as an UFA.

Did you think Trevor Diggs is gonna eventually be the highest paid CB in the NFL once his rookie contract is up ?
Either that be with the Cowboys..... or like Byron, with another NFL team.

Conspiracy Theory II
- The Jones were well on track in wanting to re-sign Gregory to a multi-year deal; They were committed in continued investment in Gregory
but apparently not by all and any means.

- The big monkey wrench was purely the terms conditions and clauses that was input into Cowboys- Gregory contact, much to his dismay.
- Cowboys apparently did not trust Gregory, per past suspensions and made escape clauses to protect themselves.

- Broncos were in the mix of recruiting Randy to Denver, Cowboys had first dibs on RG as he had interest to remain a Cowboy,
but not at those contract terms,
Cowboys called Gregory's bluff, Jerry attempted to save the deal but it was too late. Likely dissention in the ranks among the Jones.
Rumors persist that one of Stephen's capologists was allowed to write up the terms and conditions per Stephen's permission..

- Reports were Denver's offer wasn't much if any different than Cowboys dollar amount- but it included no clauses and terms
Such Randy bolted to Denver, leaving us with Plan B at RDE.

- What happened to those who believe and totally convinced that Jerry has the final say so and green light on Cowboys operations ?
Everything starts and stops with Jerry ?

- Also if this is Stephen vs Jerry, a Jones civil war, then expect a great deal more to come out from behind closed doors

If it's a forward mover only and more in the mold of a Hasson Riddick, that's not the kind of off the ball LB we really need.

the passing lanes. etc.

Yeah ive seen his game broken down. He lost a small step but still productive and can command a D. But question is do DQ want him here? Not sure but fhe Cowboys seem to be very happy where they at with their roster.

If Trevon gets even half of the INT's he got last season combined with the improvement you would expect from a young CB then, yes, he will attempt to be the highest paid CB. Even worse, I fully expect him to hold out before the 2023 season if he has another All Pro season.

The salary structures in the NFL needs to be amended, there is such an uneven distribution of available cap money throughout the entire NFL. I thought the contract inequalities would have corrected itself by now. You have something like the top 10% making half the cap money and there really isn't that wide of a separation in talent and productivity compared to the next tier of players at that position.

Should the "best" player at his position make five times as much as others ranked around the 5th to 8th best at their position? Of, course, I'm not using an exact example but I'm sure everyone gets my meaning.
