That's fine. But if it's a run-based offense they would obviously throw the ball less often. A lot of teams like Jacksonville, Tennessee, and Minnesota run that type of scheme.

A guy learning a new posiion is behind the 8-ball already. If Matt Jones alone was struggling in Jacksonville, that's on him alone. But when all of their receivers are, that points to something withing the team as well.

He would be this team's #3 receiver today.

Yeah, I would love to be 'surprised' by this team's young receivers. But I'd like a bit of insurance as well.

I have watched Jacksonville on several occasions all I can say is I'm not overly impressed with Jones. For all the hoopla he has not lived up to it, he looks stiff making his breaks and I don't see the great separation speed, he may have ran a great 40 but it just seems as if it is straight line speed with no burst to separate.

I don't have an issue with Dallas picking him up but I think if he comes I don't think a spot on the roster is a sure thing.

...the soft tissue thing is a red herring. There's got to be a sensible reason why the Jags are letting go of a former #1 who has produced to some extent. Productive guys who end up in jail or in legal trouble I can understand the reasoning for dumping. In Matt Jones' case there is something wrong here and it's not a criminal situation.

Is this guy lazy? Does he have serious attitude problem? You have to be careful on those you add when you are on the verge of good season.

Just because he can run doesn't mean he is suitable to be a Cowboy. Issues about whether he could blend and support this team is more important in my mind.

Yup I see it that way too the soft tissue is around his mid section and between his ears

I can assure you that Matt Jones will never make it far enough through waivers to reach the Cowboys, not unless it's a money issue.

There are plenty of teams who need WR's, and Washington would be a likely candidate if he made it that far.

I would agree that he's a bit 'straight linish' based strictly on his body type. I think he's more of a glider than a refined route runner at this point.

I think he's a better alternative than anyone not named Owens and Crayton the minute he steps foot on the field.

And I'm excited at the prospect of what a great receivers coach like Ray Sherman and a creative mind like Jason Garrett might be able to do with his talents.

That's why I would advocate throwing a late round draft choice the Jags' way.

It would look better for them, and it would ensure getting a player you wanted.

He'd never make it to the Cowboys via wavers.

He may be but he will have to prove it which is why I said I don't think he would be assured of making the team even if signed. I'm just surprised at all the attention he is getting at this site, his play just don't not warrant this type of fan fair in my opinion.

We need an experienced WR and he maybe the best WR on the block.

Did you know?

Jones led the Jaguars in receiving for 2006?

Jones' overall numbers over the first three years of his career are better than former Cowboy Alvin Harper's?

Jones just turned 25 years old and should still have considerable upside?

From a simple risk/reward perspective, I think the possible gains would far exceed the marginal costs.

I've often solicited for alternatives, but they've been few and far between.

If Dallas signs him great I'm not opposed to it but sorry I'm not overly impressed with him. If he earns the job even better but I just don't think he is a sure thing by any means.

stash...you may yet get your wish of Matt being available.

Latest reports out of OTAs confirm that he is in a real battle.

Again, here are the locks: Porter, Reggie Williams, Nortcut, Williamson

But Mike Walker (2nd year guy who was injured last year) has looked amazing--they say other than Porter, he has the most skills to be a true #1 reveiver eventually. He catches everything, adjusts routes nicely and is big and physical....so that is probaly 5 receivers locked in.

Supposedly Matt is doing okay too...along with a surprising D Woods. Broussard has been okay too, so your boy Matt posibly could be had for no draft pick.

Question is, is he worth it (point you all have so throughly bludgened here)? And if he is, will he not be let go until very late?

If they let Walker go instead, maybe he should be brought in for a look?

I really don't see that happening -- Troy Williamson was terrible in Minn and he was moved for a 6th round pick -- Jones has been as good if not better than Williamson

If he gets signed cheap I could see him getting a shot. I'm just not sold on the idea that he's a lock to beat out Hurd, Stanback, Austin, or Amendola for a roster spot. I guess they could bring him in and give him a shot though.

Not in camp. They are raving about Williamson--though he would only be the #4 WR. They say he is blowing by everyone and has not one single drop....not one. Go to thier site and see OTA updates if you want confirmation.

This guy was a very good QB at ARK and he understands the game from both QB and WR positions...He is very fast and with TO,Witten and ROMO, I think he would complement us well... His speed would be great opp Owens even if he was 3rd or 4th rec.

Just my thoughts..

He does have that one handed catch down:)

So what. The point was if Williamson, who has shown he was a worse WR than Jones IN ACTUAL NFL GAMES, is worth a 6th, then Jones isn't going anywhere for free.

I see your point. If Jax doen't want Jones (which I'm not sure is true) they would be smart to shop him.

As for Williamson, we'll see. Right now he/they are saying the QB play is much tigher in Jax. To me, that doesn't explain some of the guy's drops in the past. Like i said, we'll see.
