Yet Another Running Back Panic Thread

Perhaps this angle has already been explored, but I am bored and curious what back-up rb's zoners would be interested in as a potential starter here in Dallas. Lemme Splain - The Cowboys could possibly orchestrate a trade between now and the beginning of the season, but I seriously doubt the blockbuster variety that involves another team sending over their clear #1 starting running back.

So here's the criteria: What back-up running back currently on another team, that is not a rookie this year, that you feel would be an improvement over what the Cowboys already have?

For me, I am at the moment leaning towards Seattle Seahawks Christine Michael.

Who would you target?

My guess is that Dallas' FO thinks our backup running back from last year has the potential to be as good or better than any of those out there.
They see Randle at 6.7 ypc with his chances. Michael, for example, had 5.1 ypc (not bad). I know the sample size for both is small, but you have to assume they see Randle as good or better.
I don't know if they're right, but that is probably their take.
Combine that with McFadden and unless there's an injury, I can't see a trade.

What if we kick the tires on la flama blanca, I heard he might be available.

The more likely scenario, if the Cowboys don't feel comfortable with what they already have, is raiding the waiver-wire post final cuts before the regular season begins. But I really didn't want to take my hypothetical question there - What player that is likely to be cut will the Cowboys snag?

Fred Jackson (Bills)
Stephon Taylor (Az)
Giovani Bernard or Jeremy Hill (Cincy)
Jerick McKinnon (Vikes)
Chris Michael (Hags)

I don't get the panic at all. Just look at the Giants roster of backs. Not any better but I don't hear doom and gloom about them.

The "panic" portion of the thread title wasn't meant to be taken all that serious. This was more about igniting discussion about something I am interested in.

As for the Giants roster of running backs - I truly could not care any less than what I do currently. And before anyone brings up the Patriots, as some here tend to do every time a running back conversation is started, I could care less than what I do about the Giants roster.

There is an idea with some merit. Not much of a burner, but he'll get the short yards when you need them...one white line at a time.

The best backup in the league is probably in Philly
But they won't cut Matthews.

Arizona
Stephan Taylor maybe.
Az has Ellington and added David Johnson
Marion Grice and Taylor, both young guys, will battle it out.

Chicago
They have 4 good backs if the rookie is ok
Forte,
Kadeem Carey,
they add Jaquizz Rodgers for a changeup,
and drafted Jeremy Langford

If Chris Johnson wasn't a bit of a knucklehead, I think he'd do really well here. But I don't see Garrett giving the nod on him.

I would take Monte Ball if DEN goes with CJ Anderson and Hillman

I thought about Carey but I don't see Chicago letting him go. I think they need him there. They may let Forte go but that will be age and cap. I don't know if that's what we would be looking for. Langford may not be ready to start the season so I think they keep Carey but if they let him go, he would definitely be on the short list IMO.

I don't see any backup rb that will be better than what we have at rb now. Although I think McFadden is going to put up 1400 yards so that might have something to do with it

The Giants offense is not the Cowboys' offense and they don't depend on the RB position like Dallas does.

And they wont be near as good as the Cowboys' offense either . . . . . .

A quality RB will improve the Dallas offense a great deal. I am not panicking , but I see an opportunity to improve an area of the team. If the RB position costs the team a couple of games, so be it. The handwriting is on the wall. I will not panic about any pro football decision because it will not effect me one way or the other, but I would hate to see the team not play to it's full potential .
