Crowell in CLE. Natural runner who is in a crowded backfield. I would love to see what he could do behind this line. Although I don't think a trade will happen, CLE is one of the few teams that has enough depth at RB to make a move.

He's their starter. Not happening

53 year old FA Herschel Walker. I hear he wants to play again. He'll have a great year behind this line and then we trade him again to the Vikes for AP.

*Somebody had to say it.

I don't get the panic at all. Just look at the Giants roster of backs. Not any better but I don't hear doom and gloom about them.

You forget they have Beckham, they don't need a running game with him on the team.

I don't see any backup rb that will be better than what we have at rb now. Although I think McFadden is going to put up 1400 yards so that might have something to do with it

Fair argument. It is certainly not outside the realm of possibility that someone on the roster currently will emerge as a viable option...I'm just not counting on it.

But he's 34....I'd rather stand pat then bring in another huge question mark.

Wow didn't realize that. I'm fine with effective stopgaps though. He was 26 his first year too. Interesting guy.

We are likely going to be back to needing a RB after this season unless Randle catches fire which is possible. If they rotate and get 5 YPC I still see the bellcow people wanting to draft a RB no matter what.

I really like Fred Jackson.

I watch Fred on a weekly basis out here in western NY and the last couple of years his age has caught up to him. He's always nicked up and he no longer has the burst he had earlier in his career. I doubt he could give the Cowboy 150 carries and I don't see him having a better YPC average than Randle or McFadden.

I think the Cowboys would bring in Chris Johnson before traded for anyone.

Perhaps this angle has already been explored, but I am bored and curious what back-up rb's zoners would be interested in as a potential starter here in Dallas. Lemme Splain - The Cowboys could possibly orchestrate a trade between now and the beginning of the season, but I seriously doubt the blockbuster variety that involves another team sending over their clear #1 starting running back.

So here's the criteria: What back-up running back currently on another team, that is not a rookie this year, that you feel would be an improvement over what the Cowboys already have?

For me, I am at the moment leaning towards Seattle Seahawks Christine Michael.

Who would you target?

The Seahawks thought Michael was worth a 2nd when they drafted him two years ago. Unless he was a failed pick, then they probably still value him as a 2nd rounder. I don't see the Cowboys giving up and 2nd for him and I don't know why the Seahawks would take less than a 2nd unless they think he is a failure. If he is a failure then why would the Cowboys want him?

The other backup, Turbin, is in the final year of his contract.

When looking for a player to trade for, there needs to be a reason the other team would want to trade the player. If the other team does not have a specific reason, then you'll always have to give up too much in a trade. I just don't see a significant reason that Seattle would want to trade Michael.

Some possible reasons a team would trade a player without requiring the Cowboy to overpay:
1. The player is in the final year of his contract.
2. The team has too many talented players at the position. Maybe they just drafted one and have a starter and the guy in the middle is expendable.
3. A Super Star player has issues and a huge contract.
4. The player is too expensive for a rebuilding team.

Here's my theory: The better the running back, the better the Cowboys are. I get that's not groundbreaking new information, but a committee of average running backs is trumped by the 1 guy who can do it all, in my opinion. And, yes, I hope the Cowboys can find him in the next years draft, because I don't think they have him on their current roster.

I was gonna say...I'm pretty sure Flash Gordon played quarterback.

Yeah, but he was a RB before he was a QB. And he was a running QB.

I like this even more now. We can save a roster spot.

The reasons to trade that you speak of are typically created by injuries. Injuries typically do not start popping up until training camp, so for the time being we can garner what fun we can from a hypothetical question. Who would you target that is a backup and an improvement over what the Cowboys already have?

If we can get the Hulk to play DT, I'm pretty sure he'd be a good 1-tech and 3-tech at the same time...and we save yet another roster spot.
