I think most of us know Ferguson/Hendershot are going to be the better TE's going forward right?.
Keep Shultz cut both of them and pick one of those QB'S and RB'S that grow on trees some where in south central Oklahoma and north east Texas they are a dime a dozen honest read it here

Schultz was 11th in receptions among tight ends and 10th in yards. If he was the definition of mediocre then most teams have mediocre tight ends. I think he's replaceable, but that doesn't mean he's not a solid NFL tight end. Everyone just wants one more like Kelce or Kittle or Andrews.
Good stuff.

I like Schultz, been a fan of his from the start. Love how hard he plays and his nice YAC ability.

All that, but you simply cannot pay him huge.

If our te isn't elite then we need a trio of good wrs

We should focus on paying elite talent at wr and rb before an avg te that's not a differencemaker imo

Schultz was getting 10 targets a game down the stretch like he was an elite player lmao

That old 90's Cowboys offense couldn't compete in the modern NFL

It's a passing/scoring league

I agree that we shouldn't pay what it would take to keep him. I don't subscribe to automatically believing that Ferguson or Hendershot will be better or even as good, but I think we saw that the potential is there.

I definitely trust that happening at this point more than Tolbert, Brown, Fehoko, etc., becoming a quality third or starting receiver or Elliott suddenly regaining the form he has been losing for years now.

I think the rookie tes have similar talent. About the same ceiling

The problem is over the past 12-15 years we typically use our starting te as an
Ironman everysnap player like #82

And these Rookies haven't proven that kind of durability

I'm hoping for less te involvement until we get an elite TE.

Don't think we'll see it if McCarthy wants to lean on the run. Think it will be a lot of two-tight end sets no matter who we have.

I don’t really recall Green Bay heavily utilizing the TE when Mike was there. But I could be wrong.
They had 3 stud receivers most of the time which made it less important to have a TE in that facet. We certainly don't have that luxury :p

I think its pretty much a given that he is gone.

Just in general though, the team is going to be leaning very, very heavily on the draft. Once they lose a few FA's, they may end up with more holes to fill than draft picks. More likely than not, the team is going to have to dumpster dive for vet min free agents to play in the rotation.

Just off the top of my head, the draft wish list is something like: DT, TE, RB, WR and LB. Maybe DB and OL too. That's crazy. The team can't take any flyers on "high potential" players. Everyone has to be a contributor.

Good…he was the definition of mediocre.
He won't be worth the contract he ultimately gets, but he was under appreciated here for what he contributed. We forget what it was like here at TE between Novacek and Witten.

I think the Cowboys will be ok with Ferg and Hendershot. But I don't know if they will be as productive as Schultz. Sometimes we get ahead of ourselves that the backup is as good or will step right in. Sometimes 2nd and 3rd strings look more productive because opposing defenses aren't expecting them to be as involved or go up against a lesser defender.

Seems like a nice guy with a cool mustache. I wish him good luck wherever he goes.

Shift the tag from overpaying for a TE (Schultz) to overpaying for a RB (Pollard).

Great.
Pollard was at least comparable to Lamb as our most important skills player on offense. More than Schultz and Gallup, both who made more last year than Pollard will make on the tag.
If you want to worry about overpaying, worry about the guys who don't deliver value on the field.

This tells me they are planning on switching to run first. We all know Schultz was the worst blocker out of all the tes on this team. I'd watch out for Darnell Washington. He's a complete te, blocks and catches
