This is the very reason that this league will never see a dynasty again. You can't hold on to players you drafted. Sucks

What are your conditions? Same money? Same length of contract? Same guaranteed money?

If all things were equal? Sure, I could see the criticism.

But if Murray got $10 million and you could get Peterson for $5 million as he tries to rebuild his career?

That doesn't look like a terrible move to me.

Not my conditions, the players conditions. How long do you see AP signing for? Anything is possible but I am highly doubtful that AP signs a 1 year, 5 Million Dollar deal. I mean, if AP signed a bargain basement deal, sure, but I doubt seriously that that happens.

Murray will probably get a 4 year 26 mil deal. Jerry holds the Franchise tag card that would put our guy back into contract year training mode again which is good for the Cowboys. Our WR corps is young and loaded with decent talent to play in the passing game. This will make many of the zone cringe but the smart thing to do is trading Dez for younger players if we can find a taker, and signing the Learys and the Carters and the Ro's & Durant... and not stretching things out to future cap hell problems. Win now is not the only solution rather win every year should be the goal. The old guys (we don't have many) like Free will be gone and same goes with Carr who has contributed to this team but will be a casualty. Melton will have to be looked at as a new free agent, released and resigned

So you're another one that thinks we can win with no talent? 8-8 stay warm buddy, cause we'll be right back to it next year.

What does this post even mean? Are Smith/Frederick/Martin not "talent"?

If you've got an elite offensive line and QB, you can always contend for a championship. I would love to keep everyone, but if you gave me the choice, I'll take this O-Line and take my chances at RB and WR, rather than having an elite WR and missing key cogs on the line. Ever heard of the Detroit Lions?

I would not sign Leary long term. I would go out and draft a guy or sign a reasonable FA.

I think Dallas will be able to keep Dez and Murray. Carter would love to keep him but I think Hitchens will take over the spot in large part because Lee already with a big contract and I think McClain will be rewarded with a good contract and Dallas will not sink that much more in the LB position. I think Durant may be iffy but feel they likely will get him signed. Of course more restructuring of contracts will be needed like Tyron and Lee contract will be restructure to free up cash and Carr will either take pay cut or will be let go during the June 1st cuts. I really do not see Jerry letting either Dez or Murray walk.

If I'm going to pay someone between AP and Murray, I'd rather pay AP. Not just because I think AP is better than Murray, but because if we could get compensation for Murray while getting AP, I see that as doubly winning.

That's messing with the stew. You lose more.

Dunno, Murray and Dez seem tight, like Emmitt and Irvin tight. I'm a big believer in culture and if you mess with the player composition too much, you risk bringing the whole thing crashing down. As great as Emmitt, Irvin, Troy and the gang were as individual players, I think it's the fact that they viewed each other as family that really put them over the top. They were the most talented team, yes. They also had the closest locker room.

I'm with you in most cases. I might make an exception here.

No, I agree with you completely. I would love to re-sign Murray. I think he belongs with this team, but I just can't get around to giving him big money though.

Ideal scenario would be to sign him to a reasonable contract. If not that, I'd franchise him. If AP is available, I would still franchise him, but I would trade him and sign AP for a two year deal. Combine then AP and a first or second round draft pick. As opposed to the opposite of not only keeping murray i.e. no compensation, but also paying him an exorbitant amount.

I've thought about that, but I think it's the combination of distaste and losing out on a potential hall of fame type player, that it would be really hard to do.

I do agree with most here that I don't want to ruin the chemistry here.

Well, we overpaid Romo so I think that there are going to be a lot of players who feel like they deserve to be paid as well. Some guys are going to leave, it's as simple as that. However, if Murray was one of those guys and then you turned around and paid AP, you would deserve every bit of crap you got.

The players, IMO, would revolt. Media would crucify this team and we would deserve it.

romo is far from being over paid

You realize that Sterling Moore got abused by Ruben Randall Sunday right? Moore might be a good nickle or 4th guy, but if he's one of your two best CBs you're probably in trouble.

One game doesn't write the story for a player. If that's the case, Tyron Smith should be cut since he struggled against JPP.

Everything is not in absolutes, no matter how much you guys want to make it so.

My position is that their positions will be polar opposites and their asking prices will reflect that accordingly.

Murray's stock has never been higher and Peterson's never lower.

I would think that their respective salary demands would mirror those bargaining positions.

I would prefer they keep Murray at a reasonable price, but if they can't, I could see Peterson being a fallback option.

I think the Cowboys were banking on Murray getting hurt and now he is almost unaffordable.

He's looking at 9 mill a year and there just isn't a RB worth that except a young Peterson.

I want Demarco on this team but not at the money he is about to command.

I'd rather be sure we keep guys like Leary, McClain, and Sterling Moore around.

Quote your sources on where you're getting "9 mill a year."

I thought Moore played well.
