Clarification what actual culture change are you people looking for. Discipline, because that starts with coaching, not ownership.
That’s true in 31 other clubs, but not here. Zeke is a perfect example. Or remember Deion here as a player? Him telling his posse that, if they didn’t like something, he would just go to Jerry. That would be real interesting how he would handle that now if he was HC.

I remember Dion telling Emmett Smith what’s the matter? Is it the money?

This could be the year that Jerry actually puts on the ball cap and whistle.....he's been wanting to do this for a very long time
I've been thinking that. Might as well at this point.

If he hires good coordinators, how could it be any worse? At least the players know the man who is signing their checks is there on the sideline. Maybe they'll play better? Who knows.

All these names floated around like Moore and Johnson and Gruden and all those others. I don't think they have what it takes to build a culture in Dallas. Moore can't do that for sure. Deion seems to think he can but I think he is a flash in the pan and his act will wear out. A guy like Tomlin is the epitome of this of what you need.

I think that guy is Marcus Freeman from Notre Dame personally. I think he is the guy we need. Now, is building that type of culture possible with the Jones circus show around? It would be difficult but the right personality could do it. Jerry should be ringing his phone early next week. You could probably also include Curt Cignetti in the call list as well.
There is no culture to be had with Jerry and Stephen here. Parcells said exactly that

You had one with Parcells. I understand he was a personality that could usurp Jerrys crap. I think the right guy could influence Jerry in the right direction. I know he is a narcissist but he has to have that thought in the back of his mind that he is the problem . That thought could be exploited by the right guy!
Parcells was a unique circumstance. Three straight 5-11 seasons and needing a new stadium. That’s not the case now. And Jerry said after Parcell’s was gone that was the least fun he’s had since buying the Cowboys and he would never return to that.

Yeah, because Parcells wouldn’t let Jerry have his way Jerry not having fun. Makes me happy.

A coach of that sort will never be hired in Dallas by the Jones family. It's not even a consideration. Here's what they view the role of the head coach and the responsibilities to be:
  • You will not be paid top of scale, or even at the mid point.
  • You will not get to select all of your assistant coaches.
  • Jerry and Stephen will sit in on your coaching meetings and undercut your authority with your own coaches.
  • Jerry will set the culture for the team.
  • Players are selected by the Joneses, and the Joneses retain final say over the 53 man roster.
  • The players have a direct line to Jerry Jones, and can sidestep any attempt by the coach to discipline players by having Jones overrule the edict.
  • The Joneses will be on the radio multiple times per week, uttering statements that make your job more difficult to do, including media interactions as well as with your players.
  • The Joneses will disclose player injury status, availability, and starting status, further neutering their head coach.
  • Jerry will hold a press conference outside the locker room doors after each home game, and often at the same time that the coach addresses the media.
  • Jerry will have sponsors observe practice, he will make productions about appearing during practice, distracting the team from preparation.
  • There is no accountability in the organization except for this position.
This is how Jerry Jones feels about the head coach position, hence the "anyone of 500 coaches...." line he uttered prior to firing Jimmy Johnson. He views himself as the head coach, and the field coaches as his subordinates.

I don't think he is having much fun right now. The pressure from the fan base is escalating to a degree I don't think he has seen before. I may be wrong but that is the feeling I get. I am sure he feels that and hears all the whispers of him being the problem!

He turned around a 5-11 team and left us with a franchise QB in, what, 3 years? You can only do so much every year.
A franchise QB? Turned around a 5-11 team? I mean he was a lot better than Campo ........ but he was not saddled by the cap like Campo.

Parcells went

10-6
6-10
9-7
9-7

34-32 in Dallas, counting two playoff losses

No discipline is possible if the Owner/GM can undermine.....like the kid going to momma after daddy said no.
I totally agree, player loyalty overstep the coach run to daddy. This whole thing is just wrong. It’s not a family. It’s a football team show some freaking discipline please. We have zero situational football. The head coach is too busy thinking about what play to call next The whole thing.

Why would the Notre Dame head coach want to come here? Think about where he's at...and what he'd be coming to, and ask yourself: would I do this if I was him?

There already is a culture here: Jerry. No coach can change that.

Any NFL owner can make himself the centerpiece of his team if he wanted to.... but ALL of them, except Jerry, knows that it's best for the team if that isn't the case.
