How can you be a good owner and hire Jerry as GM, then hire Jason Garrett as HC? How does that make Jerry a good owner?

That's pretty much it. How can you justify saying he is good owner when he is kept an unsuccessful gm in place with no improvements on the field for 20+ years?

I dare someone to counter that. Good owners fire gms like jerry.

Im one of the very few that loves jerry as an owner and gm

the only bad thing about him is his willingness not to fire Jason Garrett that is downright unacceptable

the other mistakes hes made as a GM i can live with because i know he wants to win he’s extremely stubborn but thats just who he is what can you do
What exactly has he done that shows you he wants to win?

I had to choose bad owner/bad gm because the owner refuses to get rid of the bad gm and promotes a culture that's detrimental to successful playoff contending football

JG is a horrible head coach , if jerry doesn't fire him this season; it will be clearly evident he can't GM an NFL team.

He should have fired him back in 2010 .

Add in that once a player has ONE season where he's statistically above average (and only one season), it's payday time.... that's not smart GMing or Ownership.

IMO, JJ is a great owner, but not a good GM. Jerry is passionate about his team and winning. He would pay all of his guys top $ if there wasn't a cap to deal with. He would buy every available good player on the market, if the league would let him. He has tried to bring in every good coach, recruiter and football person he can get to make his organisation better. All of these things make him a great owner and have made this a great franchise.

But, he's too involved in day to day activities, which creates unneeded stress and distractions for the team. And occasionally, (not so much lately) he steps in and makes player decisions that aren't in the teams best interest because he likes them.

He should relinquish his GM title and duties to Will McClay and let Will run the player personal department. Stephen can remain President of Football Operations and deal with the business of football.

No, he's not a great owner. He's said he'd fire a GM with the record he has, but since he's the owner he gets to keep playing at it. That makes him a terrible owner. He knows a way to improve the team but won't.

It’s a tough question. I think Jerry is good at a lot of important owner qualities. He runs the business well. He takes care of his players. He isn’t cheap and is willing to pay to keep talent, etc.

That being said. One of the most important qualities of an owner IMO is hiring a quality GM and shutting the hell up and staying out of the football decisions.

He sucks at that.

So can he be a good owner when he has failed miserably at such an important owner responsibility?

He does not want to win ....... He wants to get credit for winning.

He would let this team lose for another 50 years if it meant giving up one little bit of control.

A bad owner is someone like Dan Snyder. Jerry cares about the brand and the team (or he wouldn't have spent billions on a new stadium, The Star, etc.) He's senile though, and that comes into play when we talk about being an overall GM of Dallas.

How can anyone select Good Owner/Bad GM? What is the first order of business of the owner of any NFL franchise? Hire the GM. He can only be a good owner if you think he hired a good GM. Can't admit you should have fired yourself and not do that and be good at either.

However, I don't have a problem with him running his own team and think there are worse GM's in the NFL.

No he does not ..... He cares about his own ego ........ He only wants to win if he gets the credit.

Jerry is much better at marketing, as an owner they are pretty much a carbon copy except Jerry takes the title because he wants to play GM as well.

Exactly. Unless you're talking about building wealth, Jerry is not a good owner. He's a stubborn man intent on doing things "his way" until he dies, regardless of the results.
