I said late in season that I thought EE might really want the dickerson record, now I think his mom really wanted it.
Dallas coaches are what kept him from getting the record, so I wonder how he and his mom really feel about that.
Has to be a downer, and I could see his face in both philly game and GB game, he was not as up as he normally was,
in phil game he looked depressed, and not much better in GB game.

Had they let him get that record, then cut him loose on GB, they could have won just running him.

As for wearing him out, this guy has been a track star along with football, and grew up running , your not gonna wear him out.

Being kind of a Ohio State fan and seeing Zeke do that very thing almost every Saturday I have to admit I was a little disappointed he didn't have a couple of breakaway long runs this year.

I was hoping for more of them myself.

I also know that most teams in the league are pass happy and most defenses designed to stop those same pass happy offenses. A perfect opportunity to run it down peoples throats. When it's working you've got to ride it 'til the wheels fall off because it may never line up the same way again.

I agree 100% with this.

How can you really debate that a back with top 5 talent and an elite offensive line in a balanced offense is not going to get 1500 at least a year if healthy?

He will get 20 or more carries a game for sure and the guy is only 21, he hasn't even peaked yet. I actually saw him improve as far as being a more patient runner as the season progressed.
Again, because I didn't start watching the NFL this season like the overwhelming majority of slobberers on here.

Only one rookie in the history of the NFL has ever rushed for as many yards as Zeke did this year, and then increased that total the very next year. I think even the Johnny come lately's know who that is.

Furthermore, only 7 players in the history of the NFL have ever pulled off the feat in any consecutive seasons, regardless of what season they were in. Yet people in here think it's automatic that Zeke is going to run for 2000 yards next year.

But if you are so confident in what's going to happen, why don't you stop talking about it and let's wager on it? People around here clam up pretty fast when they are actually confronted with believing what's coming out of their own mouth.

Ok I have to throw in some Murray barbs l
Fans here said EE would take to the house a lot of runs Murray didnt, they also said randle and McF would too.
But that didnt happen, EE had the one I think 56 yard td run and that was it, and 1 long screen pass for td.

Meanwhile Murray had a 70+ yd run for td, and is still the cowboys single season rushing record holder.
Also still holds the single game rush record.

Now just IMO had they fed EE like he asked over and over and helped him get the dickerson record, and murrays record,
Then he would have been way more motivated for playoffs, and so would the whole team, and he would have been more
feared by other teams as a runner.
He also could have had a string of 100 yd games, but was held back and wound up with 90+ in several.

I think teams actually feared Murray more than Elliot for those reasons, and I am not saying Murray was better.
But Murray had the stronger rep for the 100 yd games in a row, and the 1800+ record.

After doing that then they could tap the breaks the following year, or let him try for 2000 the 2nd year, just to
increase the rep.
plus it would motivate a guy like elliot.
Instead they hindered him getting any of that , and wound up in playoffs with a super RB who just wasnt all that motivated.
I think it also affected the OL in a negative way.
Or maybe I should say they could have helped the OL be more motivated too had they gone for the records.

with your view of cowboys offense, how do you explain the 7-10 loss to the giants, or even such a poor start in playoff game down 3-21??

The offense is the Packers game was a poor start because of penalties, drops and missed blocks. Besides the 3rd and 2 deep pass...I can't see how anyone watched that game and seen a problem with the offense early on besides TWll drop, Butler debacle and Witten's missed block...those things kill drives.

Regardless...every offense is not perfect every game. Falcons are one of the best offenses the league has ever seen but they put up 15 points against the Eagles in November. We have 16 games for a reason...so we can judge teams based on the accumulation of games, not just cherry pick a bad performance and try to somehow make it cancel out about 11 great performances.

To be specific, Zeke had the 60-yarder against the Bengals and the 55-yarder against the Lions. That screen against the Steelers went for 83 yards.

Not much to waiver. The odds in Vegas are overwhelmingly against you. I am not going to wager with someone I don't even know. I do find it funny that you are so down on the players that you are willing to bet against your team. Why are you in one thread ripping our rookie quarterback and in the next thread acting like the rookie running back has peaked? You seem more down on this team than an Eagles fan.

I don't care about the past. Not many rookie running backs came into the situation Zeke is in. Not many rookie running backs lead the league in rushing. There is not really any statistic to compare Zeke too. He has a great offensive line around him and a team that features him, his situation is really rather unique in history. You can dig for a similar situation if you want just to prove your eternal wisdom on all of us.

Really...do you really think he won't improve? Do you think he has peaked at 21?

Sometimes backs do hit a wall in their second season. On the other hand, the special backs improve. I do believe Zeke is special. Barring injury, he will be a better player than last season.

Huh?

We did go 13-3, Zeke led the league against heavy fronts and he obviously has another gear that Murray doesn't have. He did have some long runs, comparable to Murray in 14 but Zeke is a rookie. Zeke did average an extra half yard per carry though.

As far as the record? He probably wanted it but he's a team player. All it takes is one play for it to be an epic mistake letting him play.

He was running wild against the Packers---we just got behind too early. If we didn't, he could've got 200 yards.

Sometimes they hit a wall? I just gave you the exact number... it ain't "sometimes". It's almost every time. Everybody thinks that their guy is special.

And it has nothing to do with improving. Barry Sanders rushed for 1470 yards in only 13 starts (15 games) as a rookie. The next season he "only" rushed for 1304 yards despite starting every game. We certainly know he didn't get worse, so what happened?

As I said...Zeke is in a unique situation considering the offensive line around him. I can't think of any running back that has been put in a similar situation. It's one thing when defensive coordinators decide to throw everything to stop you, they can't do it here and even when they do...they fail judging by his sucsss against heavy fronts.

La'Veon Bell improved massively going into his second season as well as David Johnson. Those are two players that were in good offenses and had a chance to grow(maybe not as much in Johnson's case but his offense was perceived to be good).

I know historically, susitaining success at a high level is hard but considering what Murray and Zeke did coupled with even McFadden...this team and back has a good a chance as any to have sustainable success. The

Hopefully he'll get with Emmitt this offseason and learn of his tricks that helped him to have a 15-year career.
I might be crazy, but it seemed like Emmitt had a certain way of getting up off the ground after his runs finished. He always rolled over onto his back and had two lineman pick him him. Maybe that saved him wear and tear versus having to push or pick himself up after those runs.

There's no reason why we can't win titles and prolong his career to help us win even more than 2 titles. You have to play the odds and I would rather have him be a wildly productive player for 12 seasons than to have him reach 2,000 yards and flame out after 5-6 years.

The Spurs were smart and way ahead of the curve of every single organization in major professional sports. They make the Patriots look archaic. Duncan played for them for 21 years, Parker has been playing for them for 16 seasons and Ginobli is playing in his 18th season. And they are still very productive players.

It's time to stop being foolish.

I think Zeke would've had more huge runs with Romo under center. Defenses would've had to respect the passing game more.

The offense we play is sustainable, especially when you factor in our youth. If you give them a top 10 defense or even middle of the pack defense similar to what we have with one elite rusher, we will be winning a lot of playoff games in the next 5 years.
That will continue to depend on what the defense does in the postseason. Since 2000, the Super Bowl has featured 8 teams with top-7 RB (rushing yards) and 17 teams with top-7 defenses (points per drive).

9 different top-7 defenses have reached the Super Bowl without a top-7 RB.

0 (zero) top-7 RB have reached the Super Bowl without a top 7 defense.

What is a top 7 running back? It's a team game---if Zeke has 2,000 yards or if Zeke and McFadden has 2,000 yards, it doesn't matter.

Atlanta has the fifth best rushing offense in the league with a near the bottom defense and they are playing Sunday. I'm sure there are plenty of other teams that are left off your stats like that.

Atlanta defense got better as season went on, and last 6 games were really good, but it is their DC and HC philosophy of attack,
that helps them.

That's because the league is so archaic in how to use, practice, train and monitor players. It wasn't too long ago that you would be hard pressed to find an effective QB that could last until he's 35 years old. And now we have a 39 year old QB that played at an MVP level in the Super Bowl with a 38 year old QB that threw for over 5,000 yards this year.

That is just it, it would have been a team record , it isnt just a RB's record.
The RB cant do it on a bad team or with a bad OL.
I know in 2014 the OL were proud of helping murray set records, it wasnt just murray.

When oj went for the 2000 yd mark the OL wanted him to get it, and knew they were part of it, and went all out to help him do it.
I think getting the dickerson record and getting that 14th win were important to the morale of the team.
JG didnt think so and look what happened.
They didnt get either record, and didnt play the last game to win, and to stay in the groove, had to let philly beat them,
and I think that took some steam out of the players.
It sure didnt help, when the playoff game started.
