When Zim first got to Dallas he talked about how they defense was already pretty good so he didn't want to change things too much. It could be a Jerry meddling issue, but its also very possible this is just on Zimmer for thinking he could call a DQ style defense with some of his stuff mixed in to make the transition easier for the players. The real answer is probably somewhere in between as usual.
True but the bottom line is he was never going to much done .........not enough time, players, or talent. Honestly, as a seasoned NFL vet coach he should have know that before taking the job. Perhaps he and Mike thought we were still a playoff team........

A couple things: At Zimmer's introductory press conference and other early interviews the big topic was him being a hard azz, that's all the media wanted to talk about. Zimm shouldn't have changed for Jerry, McCarthy, Micah, or the media, but like Big Mike said when he was hired "I wanted the job". Also, during when Big Tuna came in Zimm successfully adjusted to run a 3-4 when he was a 4-3 guy. Maybe Jerry hired him thinking it would be easy for Zim to mimic DQs defense.

Overall, something isn't right in Dallas if this man wasn't comfortable being himself and doing his thing. Fans will turn on the coaches when they're just doing what they're told sometimes.

Sorry about his fam for sure. But, why didn’t he do things “his” way from the get go. Wasn’t he the frikkin coordinator??
 .....The way McCarthy back stabbed Kellen to get the play calling duties....I wouldn't be shocked if McCarthy had a hand in trying to tell Zimmer how to run a defense too. And of course it was wrong....

I agree 100%.......Zimm presser paints an enitrely different pic from Jerry praising the hell out of him last week. Hell, if we din't know better, we would think Zimm regret taking the job.

I think he's saying he regrets not being himself and was too nice because Dallas defense was good last year. He probably wishes he got on some of the players harder like he usually does early on.
Yeah, I haven't seen the pc because they haven't put it up yet, but I don't read this as him blaming Jerry or anyone else at all. Not sure why people are saying that.

I agree but it's hard to get all players on deck with a new defensive scheme within a year. When MM was hired he made a point staying with Kellen Moore's playbook coz it was easier for one person to learn rather than 55. It's possible MM and Jerry encourage Zimm to take the same route, esp with only a year to work with.
Seems likely. It's just surprising Zimmer went along with it, considering the way he is.

Maybe, I'm torn on this. I think the talent issues on this team are more so on the offensive side of the football than defensive, however I have to admit that walking into the year with Mazi and our current group of LBs wasn't ideal. Even if they did benefit from a weaker schedule in 2023 this defense was still a top 5 unit in points allowed a year ago. It should never have been as bad as it was early on this season.

I don't think I've seen anyone as hard on fellow fans as you...

no disrespect intended...observation only! :)
None taken....but, I'm not hard on real fans. Criticism is great, if you are knowledgeable. Talking crap and hate is not criticism

It wasn't suprising to me........ NEW lame duck defensive coordinator not knowing his players strength/weaknesses, 4-5 new starters ( mostly downgrade from previous season ), new scheme. Remember Parsons saying at the start of training he needed to get with Zimm on how he will be used. I know some say he had a full training camp and preseason to get players ready and that's true. The problem with that is as a coach you don't how certain players are going to respond until the real bullets ( regular season ) starts flying. Of course, once the season starts, there's little or no time implement any major changes. We could see the D started coming together by mid-season, esp with Overshown and Parsons on the field together.

Zimmer has been through alot in life and coaching wears on you at any level, so I know at that level it has to be hard esp with his age and losses of late. Probably, wanted a familiar place to find refuge doing something he loved and came back to Dallas and got put in the middle of a circus, a disappointing one at that and he is probably burnt out.

It had to be weird for him and the coaches as well. A one year contract? Really? The Owners of this team make the rules and don’t give a crap about anyone

This part though, is why we struggle in Dallas and will struggle in Dallas. If anyone is telling Zim how to run his defense and he was hired to run the defense then we have an issue. Two, if you accept this job and you have one year to fix it and you are cool letting someone tell you what you should be doing that not what you do, then that's another issue. But both issues are why we wont have a real coach in Dallas.

The only thing I can say is that in that another 90 days or so will mark 2 years we lost our 17 year old. 5 months after we lost him, we lost my 88 year old father who had lived with us for 4 years.

Sad to say, I know from experience that the grief is nothing alike on losing both and it is a "club" who I would never wish on anyone.

When our other son turned 18, he joined the service and freaked my wife out a little bit, but very proud in the fact that he wanted to follow in his family footsteps, particularly his grandfathers.
Sorry for your loss, man.

Because people want to accentuate the negative and tell stories that tie into their agenda and ignore actual logic/analysis of information

It’s the way it is here now

I’m as frustrated as anyone is about Jerry but would rather be straight and look at the facts

You have mellowed a bit on your rhetoric. :) You've also been more playful with joking around. I think a lot of people misunderstand some of your jokes and think you're serious when you're just busting chops playfully.
