I don't understand why the Cowboys fear 'cap hell'

Don’t forget 2nd round picks. Can you say, Taco, Jalen, and Sam!
You forgot Hill, Escobar, Kelvin, and Connor Williams!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OH, and don't leave out Ganjory!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don’t know if most of our fans know what a disaster having Trey Lance was to our cap last year. To keep our “3rd string QB” on the roster last year, look at what his total cap hit was last year:
  • Trey Lance 2024 Total cap hit: $5.1 million
  • Saquon Barkley 2024 total cap hit: $3.8 million.
We have two cap morons leading this organization. They can’t admit mistakes so they double down on them in hopes of looking better later. Stupid. Just plain stupid.
SBark signed a 3YR/37M deal.

When you can develop our next QB for 5M…not a bad idea.

We wouldn’t have signed Barclay. Jerry kept him for ego. The good news is it’s just one year with no future costs. He didn’t want to admit the trade was bag. I honestly thought the trade was a somewhat reasonable risk. But keeping him was really dumb once you’ve seen him a year

Give a kid a chance.

Sorry he didn’t throw for 400yds and 4TDs in the last game.

The GM and his band of morons he has surrounded himself with are too incompetent to actually build a winner. So if you cannot build a winner, do the next best thing - be good enough to keep interest alive while spending as less as you can.

Because they know Dak is not the guy to get them to the superbowl. He is good enough to remain relevant in the media and make the playoffs, which is exactly what Jerry wants

This isn't the English Premier League. There isn't a risk of demotion. If anything, being really bad for a couple of years rewards you with picking high which lets you fill your roster with high end talent (look how quickly guys like Hutchinson, Daniels, Burrows, etc have turned franchises around). I'd rather go actually go 'all-in' for a 3-4 year window by supplanting your good draft with effective FA pickups and see if you can win. Its worked for the Eagles, Rams and Bucs recently although obviously not guaranteed. Worst case you have to be poor for 1-2 years but with our scouting department, we should be able to recover faster than other teams. I'd much rather that than solely rely on our draft and D-list FA's which leads us to multiple 8-9 to 11-6 type years where we're never bad enough to get high picks (short of a QB injury) nor good enough to actually compete for a SB.

Dallas hasn't won in 30 years but is still a draw. Trying to win in a certain window and then rebuilding isn't going to lose you fans. It'll just give us hope in those years you do go for it.
Who says they do?

Wonder when they realized it. Because if they knew this before signing him to that ridiculous contract it is beyond insane.

Lance is a FA and in all likelihood won't be a Cowboy in the future. The Lancehate is irrelevant at this point, and the chance he gets won't be here.

If they didn't know it, that's even more insane.

I suppose it's the great divide:
PRO DAK
- 2nd in MVP
- Pretty much top 10 every year.

Dak Dislikers
- needs everything to go his way to win (he isn't the difference maker)
-doesn't have composure, especially when behind (and against a good defense).

Dak with 15%+ CAP hit isn't going to make up the difference. The worrying aspect, as you hit on, if Jerry wasn't trying to win in 2024....why the h@ll did he extend Dak pre-season (there wasn't another QB contract that was going to massively increase/reset the market).

Last offseason was making sense until the Dak contract. The Lamb contract didn't help.

Your right. Trance did not get a chance. He was just drafted 4th overall to a stacked team with arguable the best QB Coach in the game.

At the end of the day, it is not about money. It is about talent evaluation. The Eagles have done a great job recently adding talent. Zack Baun and Mekhi Becton were not expensive.

We gave him a chance. I clearly said the trade was done what reasonable. It’s the keeping him after you had a year to see him everyday in practice and he couldn’t win the backup job so not moving on from him hurt the team and him. He just wasted last year and we wasted money. He might have got more reps with another team and we’d have a few million more in cap

At least we didn't pick up his 5th year option for 20 mil!!!!

You ask: why does our FO fear cap hell?! Lemme put it this way: If you split their heads open with an axe, dollar bills would fly out. :lmao:
