DEN is already out on Jones. They traded for AJ Bouye.
I saw this morning that has not necessarily taken them out of the mix.

Any team that has to play in the same division as KC better have quality corners on both corners. Not a coincidence that 2 of the 3 teams play in the West. Bouye is in at 13M, they get Jones at 17, that's 30M for the starting CB's. Seems like a lot but they aren't getting ready to give their QB 33M or their WR 18M and they didn't give their RB 15M.

If these other teams really do want to emulate Belichick, they'll take a look at what he does in his secondary and how he values that CB position.

I bet at his next stop, Byron Jones will have more than 1 interception his first season with his new team.
I hope not but it's possible. Jones just doesn't seem to have the confidence to intercept the ball, and is highly comfortable sticking to a receiver and deflecting the pass.

Byron will be difficult to replace. No one currently on our roster can cover as well.
And against teams like the Eagles, whether at CB or S, he has been our go-to guy for Ertz. Unless we find an outstanding cover-safety or a CB with his traits, the TE's in this league will eat us alive. Look what Goedert has done even when we take Ertz away.

The situation with Jones is no different than Dak, you have to pay market value whether you think its too high or not. After watching what the Eagles put out there last season in the secondary and leading the league in big pass plays given up, I'd gladly pay him. I might even chip in a few bucks myself to help pay him.

"Seems like a lot" because it is. Let me know which other teams are paying that for their two starting corners and yiu will then have a point. But not before.

Even the Patriots don't come close to paying $30 million for two corners.

even more importantly, look at how he writes their contracts. only hc who also is the de facto gm.

The problem is you guys over value interceptions. They are a bonus.

Ramsey had 1 INT last year.

3 the year before..

It's just not that big of a deal in the big picture of things for an individual player.

I see both sides of the debate and perhaps the answer is if Nolan puts a premium at that position in his scheme. I know some of us would rather put a premium on the players in the trenches but as in everything the FO will reveal it in time

Turnovers are game changers. Ask any coach.

Philly is said be willing to go all in. So we need the Jets or Raiders to get even more stupid with money.

Jones helps Philly in a big way as he is a massive upgrade on the slop they trot out at CB.

I agree... That doesn't mean that a corner with 5 INT's last year is better then Jalen Ramsey who had 1.

Forcing a QB to go somewhere else with the ball that they don't want to go can cause turnovers.

The QB holding the ball longer can cause sacks and turnovers.

You are correct, 25M to the top 2 with Gilmore the highest paid player on the team. 31M to the top 3 and they have 8 on roster.

To argue the point that Belichick doesn't place a higher value on that position than any other NFL player personnel person is to ignore the facts and he doesn't play in a QB driven division. I've watched him closely and he was the first I saw with this accent on the secondary and he had always been a front 7 D guy and but he shifted once he saw what was happening in the league and he's not really good at drafting them.

If the Cowboys had Mahomes in this division, don't you think they'd be a lot more CB focused? DEN and OAK sure are.

Just signing Jones would eat up about half of the eagles cap space.
They like him well enough to do that. Then again, what else is there to choose from and their secondary was their Achilles last season. You could see the frustration on Schwartz's face and he had to take a lot more risks.

Just think how much easier it is on a DC if he has a good cover corner.

I could be wrong, but I think that Byron Jones is in for a shock. He isn't going to get $10M per year. He's always around the ball and defends passes, but as others have mentioned, two INTs in 5 years, and 0 (zero!) in the last two seasons is not going to cut it.

I will take that bet, I think he gets 17M and not that I think he's worth it but he will go early in a short supply of CB's FA. They always get a buttload of money under those two conditions. Plus the fact that he has at least 3 teams interested that we know of at this point. What we don't know is are there players that play their cards a little closer to the vest waiting in the weeds?

I hope the price gets driven up if the Eagles get him. And I think they're the team that wants him the most and knows the most about him.
