Quarterbacks get way too much credit when a team wins and too much blame when they lose. I can give a long list of great QB's who didn't have stellar team results and OTOH, there are multiple pretty mediocre QB's with super bowl rings.

Quite simply, the quarterback position itself is overrated. Its still the most important position on the team but people act like it trumps all the other players AND the coaches. That just simply isn't the case.

Not sure about that.......No other player/position can single handily win or lose a game.

we used to call him the town drunk....

he has zero credibility and a known troll. he is a drunk or trying to get off the wagon (or is it on the wagon?) and has failed several times. I wish him luck....he recently got out of jail for cheating people, lost his wife (twice) and his kids don't speak to him. All he is got is this board...he got kicked off this other message board because of being a troll, banned....and he went and joined the Vikings board, arguing about anything on that board.....its funny, he used to say and argue that garrett didn't have leadership and not good enough to coach peewee teams, then in his Dak anger/hatred thread he deflected blaming garrett. he actually once argued that Tashard Choice is as good as Emmitt smith.....and in his opinion Kellen Moore was a HOF QB in the making...…..argued vehemently.....

he is a troll, but for his own sake I hope he is off the wagon.....not the way to go through life.

I was on that board for years so I remember the Choice conversation, he was T Ball coach that was using his "insights" when in actuality he loves to hate on the Boys, one of those "I hope the Cowboys go 0-16 so that verifies that I was right " kinda dudes. I don't get past the first sentence usually

I would go so far as to say that most players can single handedly win or lose a game. An LT that gets beat and gives up multiple sacks, some of which lead to fumbles is going to lose you a game. A CB getting a pick 6 at the right time will win you a game. WR breaking a tackle and turning a 6 yard out into an 80 yard score can win you a game. I can go on.

A QB is more important and has more chances than any other position player but fans vastly overrate the impact. Positional scarcity isn't what it once was. The difference between an average NFL QB and a top one isn't that huge.

yes they can if you believe the qb can win a game him self. The QB is off the field half the game. I don't believe they win and lose the game themselves. He has multiple factors that must go right for a play to work. but what if a rb fumbles at the 1, (Ernest Byner) one can say he lost the game, if they're ignoring what happened throughout the rest of the game.

Barry Bonds set all kinds of Individual baseball records, and the Giants still lost..Funny when he left they won like 3 championships in six years.
Stats are nice but winning is nicer.
is that because of barry bonds? or other players? barry did what he was supposed to do....did the manager? other players? specially in a game like baseball...surprised you used that as an example

on the surface it makes sense, but the CB getting a pick 6, leads to one score, outside of winning/losing 6-0, it doesn't alone lead to a win. it CONTRIBUTES.....a LT not blocking well, will contribute to a loss, because you can counter that in how you scheme, provide help, etc.....so the examples you mentioned, its contribution to the overall win or loss, although at that point in the game, it may have changed the score, but all the events prior mattered and all the events subsequent to that matter too. perhaps degree of contributing to success or cause for the loss.....

Even Jackson or Watson as of now can't ask for Mahomes money.......no Super Bowl. As I've said before, Mahomes contract could very well CAP the rising QB market for a while. Just don't see a team willing to pay their starting QB more w/o a Super Bowl under his belt.
I felt the same way after the Wilson contract but looks like Dak will get it. But yeah I am hoping the cap stops for a while. The salary cap may not go up after this year, depending on how much football there is.

In the last 15-20 years, I would say, barring the two seasons where we lost the starting QB (2010 and 2015) the least impressive regular season outcome given the overall talent was last year's 8-8 team.
It really was a huge underachievement.

But again, that was a total team thing.
Offense, defense, special teams, and coaching

I agree. 2019 is arguably the greatest missed opportunity in Cowboys history.

I agree to an extent. Because I sit here and say we underachieved....but with Garrett as coach....they did what they should've done with a average coach. Went 8-8. Then factor in they can't get any turnovers and they simply just abandoned special teams...seemed like the team should've at least walked into 10 wins even with all those flaws....

The difference is that Romo was always out there fighting. He never just "laid an egg" when the team needed him. He made some stupid throws and some costly interceptions, but he was still fighting.
Dak just goes along with the team.

You mean when we were up 23 on the Lions in the 2nd half and he threw 2 pick sixes and a 3rd pick and we lost? Or do you mean when he did it again against GB?

Now put your dunce cap back on and go sit in the corner.

A couple more made field goals or turnovers and we go 10-6 no problem.

Heck, a few of those BS phantom calls dont happen against Cooper OPI or the ones on the Oline and we win two more games.

And take into consideration their overall good fortune with injuries. The Cowboys were as healthy as any team in the league in 2019 and they still managed to disappoint.

The NFC LEast was arguably the weakest it has ever been, but could Garrett's Cowboys take advantage or capitalize on that? Not a chance.

It started and ended with Garrett.

He couldn't coach, and he didn't know what good coaching looked like.

He let Linehan chase off most of the offensive assistants and wanted to keep him around even after he had flamed out. That's when the Joneses had to step in and set him straight.

As a result, Garrett hired Paul Alexander to set the team's best asset, the offensive line back several years.

And when they realized they had made a terrible mistake? 'Hey! Colombo's still here, give him the job!'

Garrett allowed Rich Bisacchia to leave for Oakland, and what was his reaction? 'Just let the guy that's still here do it'. And we see where the Keith O'Quinn decision got us, don't we?

Same for Ben Bloom. Eberflus leaves and it's 'next man up'. Who cares if he's not capable, he's 'familiar'.

It took a decade for Jerry to finally see what many of us had for years. His pet project was a never-was of a head coach wannabe.

And Garrett gets an extension and is still this team's wannabe 'head coach'.

That 8-8 was a huge wasted opportunity, but ultimately the blessing we ultimately needed.

Well and that's another aspect of coaching. Garrett kept Maher out there far too long. Honestly Maher probably shouldn't have even been on the team that year. He should've at the least got some competition in camp.

Jerry enabled him. Sat there and watched him......

And Jerry has his flaws but he at time gets blamed for crap Garrett did. Garrett had the ability to make roster decisions and coaching decisions. And he did.

This team probably would've won a extra game or two had they canned Garrett during the season. That's how bad he was. But then again...maybe we don't get Lamb....still a mess of a season and I feel stupid for even thinking they'd do more than what they did with Garrett here as head coach last season.

I'd like to think that had Garrett not made the NFC Championship game he should've been fired last season. And hell that probably would've been a waste too. I came to grips about a season ago that Garrett is not capable of being the head coach of the Cowboys. Just not. Wouldn't shock me at all if in the future he had success as a coordinator or coach somewhere but it can't be here.

And that's why I find it disgusting when some want to try to make excuses for Garrett's incompetence by saying that Jerry Jones 'meddled' and 'forced coaches' on him. The worst lie ever told.

This team probably would've won a extra game or two had they canned Garrett during the season. That's how bad he was.

It couldn't have hurt, that's for sure. But Jerry had it for him so bad that he would never have done that. In fact, it took a total meltdown like we had in 2019 for him to finally see what many of us have for years.

But then again...maybe we don't get Lamb....still a mess of a season and I feel stupid for even thinking they'd do more than what they did with Garrett here as head coach last season.

It ultimately worked out best for this team's longer term future. That's why I mention that December 2019 'loss' as the best thing that's happened to this team in decades. And a 'win' that the Eagles are and will regret for years to come.

I reached that point years ago and was labeled a 'bad fan' for it.

I'll be shocked if he ever has success at the NFL level. He'll always be the coordinator that needed someone to coach the running game for him.

Soooo tired off these Dak threads.

I know, I know, why did I click on it? That’s a very good question....

I am tired too. Still i click on them. I dont know why and i get angry every time i do. Still...

So be more understanding of yourself. Humans are irrational.
