For what it is worth, cowfan and I have been friends for decades in real life. We butt heads about every imaginable topic ALL the time. Y'all would love him if I could only get him to post more. He has a really good sense of humor drowned by heavy doses of sarcasm.:D

Thanks, but you have some pretty bad picks in your selections. The Final Four is pretty bad.

"DE? No The Good, The Bad And The Ugly clip too?"

My ballot list

It is nitty-gritty time. I ain't hyping my #14 nominated film over my number #2 nominated movie when it is for the all the marbles. :muttley:

Tommy Boy was an okay movie. It shouldn't be on any best list. There are so many better movies. Coming to America, The Wateboy, The Nutty Professor and many more.
Coming to America, maybe, but no Adam Sandler movie should be on the list, and I really didn't think The Nutty Professor was all that funny. It was okay, but Eddie could have done much better, I think.

So, it's down to The Good, the Bad and the Ugly, or The Empire Strikes Back. What a horrible conclusion to this tournament.
Having the genres grouped separately and/or not having an agreed upon method of selecting a film's primary genre were the two likely variables that impacted the tournament the most in my opinion. Everyone participating in future tournaments should consider these types of components or similar influential factors while discussing how to put together tournaments down the road.

I’m not voting in the finals out of protest

I knew some posters on this board had poor taste when Charlize Theron, Alba, Belluci and Hayek didn’t win but neither of these movies should be the best ever

I think most participating members or even lurkers will agree with you but I see it a little differently. Movie genre was both suggested as a tournament topic and selected by vote. An alternative could have been mutually agreed upon definitions of each genre and constructing a tournament from them. It is likely that a tournament such as that would have been fielded less choices and had fewer rounds since there are not 32 primary movie genres to pick from (I think).

What did happen was movies were suggested to represent each genre that was voted for. In other words, this was a tournament decided by proxy. I would not describe the tournament as a decision-maker for the best movie ever for that reason.

Perhaps participating members will more strongly consider choosing a future tournament in which ballots will contain movies across all genres instead. Maybe the champion of such a tournament will still be criticized but there is a lesser chance of 'better movies' being excluded when the overall pool of candidates is every film ever made. Everyone will not like the idea since some movies belonging to some genres are not considered 'the best ever' by most movie lovers BUT it is an idea favoring personal film choices generally agreed upon by the majority of movie fans.

Put this graphic together and uploaded it to better illustrate what I was saying about a true movie genre tournament:

The above is JUST an example of genre pairings and should not be taken literally. I doubt anyone would strongly support a tournament like this but the current tournament was 'supposed to' decide one particular film genre from this particular concept--using Action/Adventure, Comedy, Horror/Sci-Fi and Western as the movie genres.

That idea may be a bit TOO specific. I think we should consider tournaments that are little more broad in scope, with topics having more inclusive subject matter.

This may come as a shock. You may want to sit down for this. It is crazy to think it is true but <whispers> everyone does not think highly of Elvis Presley music.
Oh hell, you done released the Kraken on us all!!!! We're all gonna perish.

Inside ec is a 300lb woman named Nadine that spent 4 hours at the beauty salon and drug her best friend Trudy, her hair stylist and frozen drink sister, to Graceland only to pulled from The Wailing Fence on Death Day.

I would rather you sent me in to get you one of those cute little bear cubs from a rabid Grizzly Mama bear that soil the name of Elvis. Hell hath no fury like an Elvis fan scorned.
