It was THE reason. Before Mahomes's contract, KC was going to have to release Jones. Pat's contract allowed them to keep him.I think this was one of the reason why Chris Jones from the Chiefs signed. It was reported that due to the uncertainity that he wanted his money now and it was guarantee. I am all for betting on yourself and applaud Dak for doing it but sometimes you bet wrong and it bites you in you know what.
I think Dak is doing his best to maximize his earning potential.
By taking the Tag route, he is looking at making about $70 Million in the next 2 years.
Therefore, he will be able to sign a long term deal after that for well over $150 million given that he will be still young.
If he were to sign a 4-5 year deal now, he would be able to get about $150 plus. But, he would be well into his 30's at the end.
By going the Tag route, he can get the $70 plus another big contract afterward.
I think he could still make well over the $70 million even being in his early 30's but by going the Tag route, he almost insures that he will maximize his earnings whereas signing a 4-5 deal he cold potentially get injured in a way that prevents him from getting a big contract afterwards.
He seems to be gambling that he won't suffer a major injury on the Tags, but I guess it's a gamble he's willing to take.
Your thread makes absolutely zero sense..
Even if he signs a 500m dollar deal, if there is no season, he doesn't get paid
He is betting very largely on the Dallas Cowboys is what he is doing.
If he plays on both tags and continues to come up small in big spots... and still has that one slash mark for playoff wins after six seasons, who exactly is giving a guy who cant win big games a massive contract?
That's why I keep saying he should simply get all he can NOW, because chances are its downhill from here as far as his value, and/or a team really wanting him.
And what's the flip side? He wins a SB? How much MORE would he really get in that case and is it really worth the risk? Not easy to win a SB.
The reward simply isn't there.my thoughts exactly, Dak is definitely rolling the dice. With a new head coach and his abilities still in question, not to mention a backup QB capable of starting, he's taking a risk that frankly doesn't favor him.
Dak is betting largely on his agent, and why as a fan of football, the game, I hope it goes very wrong for Dak.
There was a time when the agent was was a mediator between the two parties.
Now Agents like france are aonly about the money, and not about mediation.
You hire an agent to get you the most money. You hire a publicist for you image.Dak is betting largely on his agent, and why as a fan of football, the game, I hope it goes very wrong for Dak.

He's playing for a home run against a stiff wind. What if the NFL season gets cancelled? The NFL still has no idea what damage player politics have done to the fan bases. So, sure Dak might get that 70 million over the next 2 years, but there is a lot of uncertainty and we haven't even factored injury risk.
If Dak can get a 100 million guarantee now, which the cowboys have apparently offered, he'd be a fool not to take it......
if there is no long term deal today then dak is pretty much done in dallas
Smartest post of the dayIt is axiomatic that any star player could maximize his earning potential by playing from year to year on one-year deals.
However, there are downsides to this approach. These include, but are not limited to: (1) serious injury; (2) decline in play; (3) a potentially cancelled season, where players without signing bonus money earn no game checks; (4) a contracting salary cap. Until recently, nos. 3-4 were never serious concerns. But between the virus and unsavory politics, the NFL's ability to put butts in seats and eyes on screens is in serious jeopardy.
If Dak doesn't sign a long-term deal now, time will tell whether that was a wise move.

Is this a finance question or a fanatic question? Just saying...would you rather take 33 in Dallas or 40 in Jacksonville... Just saying..
It's called ego.........unless the poster is miss cleo.Absolutely not wrong. We do not know yet if his game is going to work. So far, it has not.
Why do you feel the need to proclaim something as proven when it is not proven?
Well he is insured, probably to the tune of 50 million, but yeah that's a factor.yea and if he gets seriously hurt?
Yep.would you rather take 33 in Dallas or 40 in Jacksonville... Just saying..
Could have gotten over 100 million, guaranteed. And likely a fat signing bonus check right after he signed his name. Likely more in just the signing bonus then he had made in the last 4 years.Well he is insured, probably to the tune of 50 million, but yeah that's a factor.
This guy is getting awful advice. That's obvious.
