The world is full of examples of the unknowing criticizing the knowing. Now all those unknowing who said the cowboys would cave are having to accept they were wrong. Todd france got impaled.
Who cares if Cowboys didn’t cave if it’s going to be costly financially down the road if they intend on signing Dak.

And let’s assume they don’t want to sign Dak next year then what is their plan moving forward for a franchise QB?

And why they are being bashed .

The fact they held their ground on negotiations is not reason to applaud unless of course you don’t want to resign Dak.

The Cowboys lose if we don’t have a franchise QB moving forward.

If a contract is not reached, it means he plays on the tag this season. Nothing more.
Then we will know for sure if he is worth a larger contract or not come nest season.

Or we bail, trade Dak, and roll with Dalton this year, while giving McCarthy a chance to prove he is the QB Whisperer, able to identify and develop QBs.

McCarthy *may* be that guy. Using him to get QBs on the cheap would be a *massive* win for the franchise.

Consider the source.
I do . The paper we can’t quote or link here is the most reliable source on the Cowboys.

Who is your source defending this was a good move for the Dallas Cowboys not resigning our franchise QB?

Yes, he'll be the guy who gets paid millions of dollars to get his butt slammed to the turf in Cleveland with no hope of having enough talent around him to win his division, much less win a championship. I hope he enjoys that money.

I doubt the marketing opportunities for a Cleveland QB are 20% what they are for the Cowboys QB.

It just doesn’t make any sense that this was the plan after bringing Mikey in to not be able to resign Dak and basically have to start over on offense.

I’d argue our ownership has poorly mismanaged again.

That’s the business of the NFL.

Who really cares what happens beyond the Cowboys. This is about how we have mismanaged resigning our franchise QB assuming we wanted him.

Good point. Dak has been offered very fair money for his skills. Plus, as you point out, he could make even more from endorsement deals. I hope he enjoys Cleveland.
Who are we to decide what fair money is. Obviously we didn’t feel Dak was worth resigning or negotiating which is fine. But we must deal with the repercussions of such decision which will have effects on our football team moving forward.

Busting our chest that we stood firm in negotiations brings no comfort if our team suffers and we can’t find another franchise QB.

We missed our opportunity to sign him last year choosing to wait and see how he performed in 2019. Now if we wait until 2021 he’s going to be much more expensive .

At least about 7 million more just on the Franchise Tag but an extended contract next year will surpass anything we could arrive at today.

Assuming we still want Dak for years to come if we don’t sign him today it’s going to be a poor financial decision compared to next year or years ahead.

The only conclusion we can arrive at today if we don’t extend him is we aren’t sold on Dak and that message will be loud and clear.
If Dak proves to be worth a huge contract then I have no issues with signing him to a contract that isn't CHEAP. A Franchise tage year is perfect for both sides. Dak is betting on himself and the Cowboys get another year to see if he's really worth a monster contract. I applaud both sides

By every indication we’ve seen and heard from our organization we are All In on Dak. We don’t need to see anymore.

If we are under valuing Dak or feel he is over valuing himself then we are risking losing our franchise QB in 2021. If we are ok with that then fine.

At the very least he will not be cheaper next year and it will cost us millions which is the point of the thread.

The season hasn't even been played yet. If Dak proves to be everything Dallas believes him to be, then yes, his demand goes up. If he proves to be a notch below players like Wilson, Mahomes, etc., then his cost will be similar to what Wentz and Goff are getting.

Right now, it appears that Dak feels he belongs in the Wilson category, and the organization doesn't seem to agree. It'll actually be good to see which one is right.

Or his agent values him to high. Deal was supposedly almost done last year till we won 3 straight. Agent pulls the plug.

It's definitely likely that he's getting some "bad" advice. I put bad in quotes because it's only bad if he doesn't play like a top five QB under the tag. He and his agent are betting on him.

What more do we need to see. That’s nuts that we think we need to see our team have more success before resigning Dak. And why we are being bashed.

If we don’t know after Last 4 years what we have then we are horrid evaluators. It’s only going to cost us more.

What you’re basically saying is Daddy and Son are waiting on public perception to be more supportive stepping up to the plate to pay Dak since we can trust their judgement. Lol

That's the thing. Some of you consider Dak a franchise QB. I don't. Franchise QBs like Staubach, Aikman, and Romo are willing to put their team first over their own personal riches. Dak was offered a lucrative contract, and turned it down. Troy and Tony were offered pro-rated contracts and re-signed.

If Dak doesn't want to be here, I don't want him here. Heck I don't even know if I'd want him in 2020, roll with Dalton and go from there moving forward.

Has Dak actually (finally) reached out to Lamb yet?

Good luck going forward Dak, I wish you well.

The Cowboys have illustrated no indication they are willing to negotiate reaching a deal with their franchise QB.

Amazing we have fans proud that we can’t resign our QB risking our future. Over what . Sounds like a year or a couple million that will cost them much more next year. Very poor Mgmt from everything I’ve read and heard locally.

I would fire that agent if at the last minute I am on the phone trying to work something out. And they give me something I would sign. Why is the agent even there. I swear I would have no agent. Just a lawyer I would pay by the hour to look over my contract.

I’ve been a critic of Daks and if you don’t think he’s a franchise caliber QB then I’d certainly agree with standing pat but every indication is the Cowboys were All In totally convinced Dak was their guy which if that’s the mentality you find a way to get a deal done or risk losing him in the next year to free agency.

That’s what it’s beginning to look like and I guess why I’m so surprised.

From everything we’ve seen and heard coming out of our front office they were totally All In . And why I figured they’d eventually cave in to sign their guy.

But they’ve either totally mismanaged this which will cost them much more to sign him next year or they are done with him after 2020.

Not the plan, but a credible option.
