Who are we to decide what fair money is. Obviously we didn’t feel Dak was worth resigning or negotiating which is fine. But we must deal with the repercussions of such decision which will have effects on our football team moving forward.
Busting our chest that we stood firm in negotiations brings no comfort if our team suffers and we can’t find another franchise QB.
Who is anyone to decide that? We're the fans who don't want the team to get salary-cap hamstrung, and it would appear Jerry agrees. And he's right. You can't just sign a quarterback and then win a championship. You have to manage the salary cap so that you have quality talent enough at all positions to have a chance to be a champion. So, to answer your question, Jerry is the one who decides that. And he's right. Yes, they wanted him. But they didn't want to overpay for him. They were smart not to overpay for him. Dak is not the best quarterback in the league. He's not even in the top five. Even if he were, no quarterback who has ever played the game has managed a championship without a highly talented team around him. If you want a team like that, you cannot let your team get salary-cap-hamstrung. But what do I know? Maybe we could just give Dak most of the cap and leave enough left over to pay the other positions the league minimum. Maybe that will work.
