Are you talking about Brett Farve / Aaron Rodgers?
If so, in 2005 when GB selected Rodgers, Brett Farve was 35 years old. He may have still been a Top-10 QB, but he was clearly not young.
When the Colts selected Andrew Luck in 2012, Peyton Manning was not only was 36 years old, he missed the entire 2011 season with a neck injury.
So in both cases, those picks made sense. Their franchise QB was old and getting close to retirement. Dak is no where near the age of either Farve or Manning when those teams made the heir apparent picks.
cowboys had aikman, took walsh in supplemental draft.
True and at least you got the age part right. But was Aikman a Top-10 QB in the NFL BEFORE he ever stepped foot on a NFL field?
Aikman was selected #1 in the 1989 draft, Walsh was #2 overall in the 1989 supplemental draft. Simply put, the Cowboys did not have a QB and knew they needed one desperately. So understandably, they did everything in their power to make sure they got one.
So ...... I have yet to see an example of a
YOUNG TOP-10 NFL QB being replaced by an early draft pick.
Still waiting.
