Some other team is gonna trade for him. As a free agent they would have to bid for his services and he probably ends up costing more than he does in a trade. I mean, look at the contracts of Goff, Wentz, Cousins and a few others....Stafford is better then all of them.

Stafford will be 33 in two weeks and he looks every bit of it. The knock on Dak by some here on this board is that he has a lot of "garbage" yards in his stat sheet. Well you are looking at the king of "garbage" yards with this guy.

Lions have already talked to one-third of the league about Matthew Stafford
Posted by Michael David Smith on January 27, 2021, 2:44 PM EST

The Lions are shopping quarterback Matthew Stafford, and they have a whole lot of potential customers.

About a third of the league has reached out to the Lions about a potential Stafford trade, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Among the teams that have been mentioned as potential trade partners for the Lions are the Colts, 49ers, Broncos, Patriots, Football Team, Panthers, Raiders, Rams, Texans and Cowboys.

The Lions are said to be seeking at least a first-round draft pick for Stafford. With so many teams interested, they may be able to get more than that.

I wonder if the amount of interest isn't the number of teams, but what those teams are initially offering in return. My best guess is that so far teams haven't thrown out a 1st round pick as a possible trade commodity. And why would they at this very early point in the process. Long way to go before this gets settled.

So teams aren't that interested in him but they are interested in him but they're not that interested in him.

whatever it is...its still too much.
Stafford has two years remaining on his contract. $20 and $23 for the next two years. Think about that for a minute in a reduced salary cap year. We also have an agent wanting nearly $40 million per year. Another franchise tag limits moving forward. Stafford never had a good OL or running game like ours. No wonder he was run over by opposing defences. If the Dak negotiations appear to be headed in the same stand off as last year; offer Cooper and a 3rd then flip Dak rights for picks. Teams with no salary cap issues will pony up picks. Use the savings to get a stud DL and Safety. I mentioned those positions because they are not strong areas in this years draft.

turns out Teams are Leary about a QB with previous lingering back issues that is soon to turn 33 years old. HIGH RISK factor.

I guess it depends where we're getting information vibes and source, as 105.3 fan radio is saying their Brian Broaddus is saying a 3rd or 4th of the NFL has contacted
Lions per Matt Stafford interest.

When it comes to potential interest in Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford, the glass is currently two-thirds empty. That's the obvious import of the news that a third of the league has reached out to the Lions. A third of the league. Ten teams. For a 32-year-old franchise quarterback who is going to get his wish [more]

HAHAH. I remember reading here. "He will be traded. BOOK IT"

Its amazing how many people here say things like its gospel truth and pretend to know it all and be a real life NFL GM. And get proven wrong. Time and time again. Yet continue to try. Its admirable.

I mean one poster here wants to let Dak walk and sign this guy that no one wants to trade for. Back issues, age, just not very good. The list of reasons not to is amazing but yet. We have people here who really dont know what they have in Dak.

I think he's going to the Colts for the #21 pick. They want to compete now and he'll give them a few years of service where they can either re-up on a cheaper vet contract if he's playing solidly or turn the reins over to Eason/a younger QB.

They were happy with taking Rivers for a year and they feel their window is open.

So 10 out of 32 is not much interest.

They all called to let Detroit know that they weren't interested

Doesn't cost anything to talk, like I could call or visit my local Chevy dealership and offer them $50,000 for that new Corvette on their lot, but I'm not seriously thinking they'd take my offer. Still, I did "check on it"....
