I would understand not taking Pitts if there was an elite defensive player at 10.
Unfortunately there is none in this draft class.
I would gladly take a blue chip DT if there was one.But if there was one he wouldn't drop to 10 anyway.
I wish there was a DT to take too. Or a super stud FS.
I like trading back. Our needs aren't at the premier positions justifying a 10. Trade back and get a couple of solid starters. FS, LB, DT, CB. That's where we need starters, and you don't have to spend a 10 to get a good one.
You have 9 more picks to fix the defense. All the top blue chip talent in this draft is offense in the top of the first roundWe have a very solid set of TEs, I do NOT see that as a high priority. FIX THE DAMN DEFENSE!
As their pass rushers sack the QB unhindered and the D can't stop a HS team.
Seriously, where in the world do you guys get these silly ideas from?
Might be able to get a top 10 olineman
I've heard that after Sewell, it's a weak class of OTs. We've got 2 starting LGs and two Pro Bowl level starting OTs in Smith and Collins. It's just a waste of a year to be taking an OT to sit this year, or play out of position while we sit *two* starting quality LGs. We've got so many other needs.
Even so, LT is a position to take at 10, and I'd take another Tyron at 10, but I don't see him in this class.
The draft isn't falling our way this year at 10. I see better value for our needs and what we can take without waste in the late 1st and beyond. Trade back.
I don't watch tape, but I have heard slater is a good tackle. Doesn't have the body of sewell, but is technically very good.
Smith could call it quits at any time or only play part of a season.
L Collins has injury issues. It is an assumption that he comes back as strong as he did in 2019.
This is connors last year on his rookie contract. Do you pay him
Martin is 32, and hopefully his injuries are not serious
Slater might not be the biggest need, but it might prove to be a good pick
I dont have anything I want them to pick. I am just curious how it plays out
You have 9 more picks to fix the defense. All the top blue chip talent in this draft is offense in the top of the first round
Yeah, it does sound like Slater is the possible option at 10. Sounds like a decent prospect, but not one to get excited about, particularly given our *presumed* lack of need this year.
I see a lot of value wasted by picking a LT this year. Basically one year of the contract. I wouldn't do it unless there is a guy whose surplus value in talent makes up for the current lack of marginal utility relative to our current oline.
I wouldn't sign Williams. McGovern looks fine. Should be more than fine by 2022. Plug him in. He may even straight up beat out Williams in camp for LG. The stars are aligning to make an extension offer to McGovern in the 2022 offseason, *before* he gets a season of starting. A tweener backup/start contract. I wish we did that more often. That's where you can get real value, and have the most leverage over players. If they don't extend, then you have less reason to invest starter snaps in them.
First tier offense is better than 2nd tier defense.Hence, trade back where the defensive value is.
TE has been a looming issue for decades. We don't have the resources to spend to upgrade tight end. Too many real problem areas to manufacture one. Could we get better? Sure, but we don't absolutely need to while there are several areas where we absolutely need to get better.
why are we even thinking about a TE? with Cooper, Gallup, CD, TE will be the 4th option in passing game. if our defense wasn't so bad, I would say take Pitts if he is there. but we need to spend any money and picks on defense (except for a LT if available).I know that some here really like Jarwin and Schultz, but the reality is that Jarwin is coming off a serious knee injury and Schultz, while serviceable, will never be an All-Pro.
I believe that Dallas needs to upgrade the TE position this offseason and frankly there hasn’t been a better crop, not just in the draft but in free agency, for as long as I can remember.
Any of these players would be an upgrade. Which one do you like? I’m listing them in my order of preference.
Zack Ertz: (likely to be released or trade)
We know that good tight ends routinely play into their late 30’s and you don’t go from breaking Witten’s single season catch record to a stiff overnight. Suffered from poor QB play but I think he’d shine in Dallas.
Kyle Pitts: (draft)
I know people either love or hate this player but he’s 6’6, blocks like a tight end but runs like a receiver. He has great hands and speed too. Someone needs to help me with the hate; this guy could be the league’s next great tight end. Is it just the idea of picking one so high?
Jonnu Smith: (free agent)
Let’s see if he makes it to free agency but Jonnu Smith had a great year last year even though his stats don’t reflect it. He’s more like a wide receiver and has speed but he can block too. I think if you put Jonnu in Dallas he is a monster tight end and catches 10 touchdowns.
Hunter Henry: (free agent)
Make a lot of cash last season on the franchise tag but then didn’t produce that well. But he has the physical talent and I think suffered under lack of innovation.
Here are some other notables: Trey Burton (Mr. Philly Special), Tyler Eifert, Jake Butt, Pat Freiermuth (has never dropped a pass in the red zone)

If this team goes offense with that #1 pick you just have to laugh at this point.
Why laugh at a player worth the value of 10 on offense. Tackle, TE, WR, QB
Laugh if they reach for a position on defense that is not worthy of the 10, especially if he doesnt pan out.
I would say it has to be a corner at 10 on defense, and you can find corners later on. I would say take the offensive tackle, TE, or WR.
It doesn't matter what they pick, the player needs to be top notch in the nfl. They pick early in the 2nd, and there will be a really good defensive player of need there.
Lets stop with the idea that there is no defender worthy of the 10th pick. This D is horrendous. The worst in team history and unfortunately the Cowboys painted themselves into a corner. So far Jerry wasted all those 1st round Olinemen a 1st round RB, 2 first round WRs and that won't end until they fix this D.
There are a lot of players that would improve the defense that you can take at 10, but that doesn't mean they are worthy of a #10 pick.
Chances are that the cowboys will not be anywhere near a top 10 pick for awhile. So, he better be one of the 10 best players in the draft.
Money also comes into it. You pay the number 10 pick more than later picks in the first round. So, if you reach on a player, and he is not top 10, you are overpaying, and you wasted the value of having that high of a pick.
2020 number 10 pick
made 19.7 million total value
cedee 7 picks later made 14 million
That is almost 6million difference. So, why reach
