If I read one more article about how the Cowboys failed to get Dak signed, as if Dak had no part in the failure, I will scream! These writers act like Jerry is holding out whatever it is that Dak wants just to bust Dak's chops or something. Of course we have no idea what Jerry really offered or what Dak really wants, but I find it hard to believe that Jones did not make a fair offer. Dak is clearly holding out for something.
Given the contracts Jones gave Zeke, DLaw, Jaylon, Amari and Tyrone Crawford, I find it hard to believe Jerry decided to hold the line on spending when it came to Dak. I am no Jones fan. He is the worst GM in the league with 25 years of incompetence to prove it, but he has never been guilty of being unwilling to overpay his players. Dak has to have some part in this inability to get a contract done.
It sounds like we are headed for the dreaded 2nd franchise tag. There is no option to tag Dak a 3rd time and still field a team of other players. So, someone explain to me if Dak is unwilling to sign a deal the last 2 years why he would sign one next year? Dak is headed for free agency and I suspect this has been his plan all along. If this is case, Jerry has no choice but to tag him and try to find a trade partner because Dak is not staying in Dallas in 2022.
I think a decent QB in the draft could have success in Dallas because the Cowboys will have a strong OL if healthy and a group of weapons around the QB. Just like Dak had success in 2016, so can a QB coming out this year assuming he has any kind of a decent arm.
I would love for the Cowboys to get Dak signed, but what does Dak want?
