It's not going to happen so no use debating but I don't think you understand what i'm talking about..all what deals? Trade up with the Jets for #2 would cost a couple #1 round picks. Releasing Dak costs nothing saves 40M/year plus you acquire a good pick.
It cost the 49ers more to trade up to 3.

I would build the defense with $160 million in (Dak's money) and leftover draft capital over the next 4 years. How many SB's have been won by building their defense through FA? Most recently all of them

Hmmmm......So, you'll spend $160M on defensive free agents? Giants tried that a few years ago, remember?

I would have traded Dak (who I like, great guy) and moved into the #2 spot to land this guy, then used the cap space to build a "real defense" and make a run, but we have no stones.
Same ole story in Dallas this year, maxed at the cap with a middle of the pack defense... if we're lucky.

Except we aren't maxed at the cap.

Just trying to figure out what he would have cost....Dak, our first rounder this year and probably next at a minimum. You figure Dak would count as a first rounder + because of his experience and age.

So we would bring in a rookie QB with an OL that has trouble staying healthy and a crappy defense. Not sure how that would be better than just paying Dak to be honest. But we would save some on this year's cap and a bunch going forward the next 3-4 years where we could add some premium free agents....you know, like Dallas LOVES to do.

The whole maxed at the cap thing or held back by the cap is such a joke...fake news. Teams that were 80m over the cap got under and signed some free agents. The Bucs took the Super Bowl team and brought everyone back. The idea that the cap is responsible for Dallas' lack of playoff success since the 90's is a ******** concept.

You picked one failure out of many successes... if you can't build a top 5 defense with that kind of cap room, they you don't belong a GM in this league, pretty sure that guy was fired

Well, not really much more to say about this kid. I'm on record, I think he is the best QB in this draft.

JMO

I don't think there is any debate....he's got the better arm....better mobility. If Trevor Lawrence went to S. Carolina...then Zach is your clear cut #1. It's the program that is sell Trevor.

Assuming the Jets are planning to move on from Darnold......Why would they trade for Dak?
Miss a chance at this kid and take on a 4 year 160 million deal.

Zach Wilson does look good....however.....
Like they said, he rarely played under any pressure. He was behind a great college Oline facing inferior competition.
You know how all QBs look great in camp throwing against basically air.....that was Wilson in real games.
It's just very hard to measure unless a player faces real pressure vs real competition.

They mention that Mac Jones also had some of that going on too due to how dominant his overall team--line, WRs, and run game--were even vs SEC competition. But at least it was SEC competition.

fwiw....even after the Pro Day, Kiper says Fields is better than Wilson. Interesting.

Dak is a normal player.
Dak has a great shot at being the best qb in the NFC in 2 years. Name a normal player qb that has started since day 1 and went 13 and 3 in his first year. Name one. Since when is that normal?

Its time to stop chasing 2016.. A year that had more to do with Zeke and the OL then it did Dak.

2016 shouldn’t cost us a decade of mediocrity but it will.

The Cowboy defense wasn't bad in 2019 and now they have already added 6 new defensive players and are not done in free agency and the draft. This team doesn't need a top defense. They just need not to be bad. They are well on their way to not being bad.
